I enjoyed this review, everyone was bashing it but this review came at the car with a different perspective. I ended up buying an m235i gran coupe 2 days ago and the same day I bought it I received multiple messages of people asking me what it is lol. Definitely a different looking car than the others in its class.
Love how Howard pointed that BMW's actually come with _indicators._ 8-))... Who'd have thought it?? 8-))... I used to have _run flat tyres_ on my BMW 330d coupé. When I changed them, I put _normal_ tyres on. They made the car run and handle so much better. And nice to see Howard having a _"bit of a domestic with the BMW infotainment"._ 8-))...
Pauses video to comment. I absolutely love the red seats ( are they red?, They look red) reminds me of the the interior of the Integra Type R I used to own during my younger days. Anyway back to the video.
I think you can look at this car in 218i guise as (say) a relatively eco-friendly alternative to a full hybrid (I'm getting 60+ mpg). Compared to most full hybrids, it has reasonable handling and balance, a premium feel and (mostly) good looks. Think of the benefit of this small front mounted engine as emitting low CO2 levels rather than one lacking in performance. I am a petrol head and I've owned many (40+) cars including 6 M Sport BMWs. In my view, this car offers me (and perhaps others) a stepping stone towards a greener future and at reasonable cost without sacrificing driving appeal, quality or comfort. Reaching nearly 70 years old, I am at an age where I want a more relaxed drive rather than one on the ragged edge and to me this is still the ‘ultimate driving machine', just in a more modern and eco-friendly form!
Stark difference in European reviews of this car vs North American. There seems to be much more appreciation for this model on your side of the pond. I quite enjoy to Grand Coupe and in my opinion it is very much a "real" BMW. The run-flats are terrible. If I own mine long enough to replace the tires I will not choose them again and instead invest in roadside assistance. I drove the 228i and the CLA back to back and MUCH preferred the BMW. Thanks for your video.
No we hate it with a passion. You never see them on the roads because we don’t buy them. If it was branded as a 1sr dis GC it might sell more but all 2 series owners cringe at it.
I've had run flats on my BMW's because that's all BMW put's on them. They're good for maybe 16K miles and very expensive to buy. I don't see the difference. As soon as they need to be replaced i don't buy run flats
225 pound//month???!!! - holy crap, we get so ripped off in Aus with car prices and finance. That would be at least the equivalent of about 650-750 pound/month even a year ago, probably more now the way things are currently
VOTE OFF: BMW 22OD VS BMW 118I?

I bought 220d, & it drives like a BMW & looks like a BMW(Beautiful Mean Wife)
M235i vs 218i. Whats the difference
@@lordvoldemort2564 73 more HP and more than a 100 lbs of torc. Better handling and braking
What a great and refreshing approach to a car review. Cheers
I had a new BMW 228i in 2021 it was a great car. I just bought a M235 last month and it's a super great car.

If you push this down you get a light which, tells people which direction you're going in 😂😂😂😂😂
As a Lexus driver I found that so true 👍🏻
Another great review Howard look forward every month to these, thanks

Loving the format
Your reviews are brilliant. Bravo 👏🏼
Fantastic interior.

They do not do 19 inch runflats because the size is such that they are simply not available anywhere
great review
Great review as always Howard
19s with run-flats on an M-Sport suspension? Never again. Never ever ever again. Teeth rattling.
Can you please review the new M440i Gran Coupe?
Can't wait for my m sport version to arrive in Dec in snapper rocks blue!:)
Are you enjoying the car? Thinking of getting one
@@joshsweeney4577 I've had to reorder so I'm still waiting for it. Which spec are you going for?
@@Omar31587 think I’m going to go for the 218i msport but can’t decide whether to go for misano blue or storm bay
@@joshsweeney4577 I'd personally go for storm Bay as it looks more unique.
@@Omar31587 I agree, hope you get yours soon
Important question! Does it have launch control like the normal audi a3
I get mine next wednesday :)
Did you enjoy it the last couple of years?
Does the gas/petrol engine also make sound like this diesel one?
Amazing car !!!!!! Ithink I' ll buy it soon . . . . .sorry, what is the exact color of the car being tested? Tks !
It’s called Storm Bay ..I know cos I have one (220d) and love it
Does this particular car (220d) has Launch Control? I am dying to know this. Keep up the good work!
Im asking this question too, my brother has a 35 tdi a3 and it has launch control it would be a shame if this one doesnt have it
I personally think we should debate whether runflats should be used or not 🤣
Nope! Not to the debate. But to run flats. Normal tyres and a can of tyre weld in the boot 8-))...
@@thezanzibarbarian5729 i agree hehe never have runflsts

Great review random question what make are your glasses in this review and where did you get them from I’ve been trying to find some just like it?
Morel France. Happy Googling.
Legend
Any idea what the name of the colour is on that model.....cheers
Mint grey!
What are you on about? The 1 series hasn’t been FWD for a very long time.
1 series is never been a front wheel drive only on the recent generation!
yeah, definitely not a long time 😅
Runflats are shite.
the m version of this car is fully loaded and so affordable.
How much is it right now in 2024
822 miles to the gallon?? 🙆🏽♂️🙆🏽♂️😂

after watching this review..... Ive realised i made the right choice buying a 2016 MANUAL RWD 228i used.....................

Leasing vs carwow ... who wins
Shall we try getting Howard to do a drag race?
0-60 4.7 not 4.2 😂
Need a full electric version.
you’re better off with an A3
If you have 5k more on the bank yes! This car is suprisingly cheap right now!
This is not the dynamic BMW 2 Series Grand Coupe. It's a transvestite MINI Gran Crappé.
front wheel drive is a joke
Because you are dumb.
its an ugly machine isn’t it
