At the very end Columbo once again uses the expertise of a relative. I have lost count how many times his wife, brother-in-law, niece, or nephew have helped him solve a case, either directly with information or inadvertently by saying something that sparked an idea that put Columbo on the right track. Also, Columbo's last case in the last episode was not his last as there was a planned 40th Anniversary special episode of Columbo but due of TV scheduling conflicts as well as Columbo's actor Peter Falk is already diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease that he is no longer recognized the character he played, it sadly never happened until he passed away in 2011.

I remember seeing the final episode and instantly recognised how modern it was compared to the 70s and 80s episodes. The most striking thing is the murders in the older episodes have that 70s quality of actors mildly exaggerating the deaths, very quick and absolutely no sign of injury or blood. Very much censored you could call it. The last episode on the contrary was incredibly violent in comparison, even taking multiple attempts to kill the victim.

Columbo is hands down the best TV detective of all time. He was shrewd and razor sharp with an amazing attention to detail, but hid it well behind a disarming facade of shambling inelegance. Once he was on a case, he was relentless in pursuing the truth and it would always be the little things that brought the criminals down. As a kid this was one of mine and my mom's favorite shows to watch, and we'd always try to solve the case before Columbo did. Great memories. RIP Peter Falk, you will always be a legend.

I wonder too, sometimes. I think the most difficult part about believing in any deity is accepting the idea that He sees the whole picture, and even the most horrible and tragic events have reasons for occurring, even if we can't understand them. Sometimes a lesser evil must be suffered in order to achieve a greater good. Suffering and conflict is what makes us grow, both as individuals, and as a species. Without difficulties to overcome, we'd stagnate. But that's a very bitter truth to accept.

I dont watch the latter grey haired Columbos, he looks too knowing like he,s read the last page of the script & knows it was the special guest star instead of working it out eventually.

Yes by the 1990s he was in love with his own character. The 70s Columbos were classic TV though.

Boy, did Columbo look older near the end. But that makes sense, since he was older. I'm just used to his hair being dark.
