When he was on stage once, getting a lifetime achievement award, Peter Falk said people always ask him, "Who is/was Mrs. Columbo?" He pointed to his own wife sitting at the front table and said, "There she is, right there." With a huge smile on his face. It was a nice moment.

I think OG canon is he wasn't married during the show. Maybe he was before, maybe it was an act, but there's more evidence he wasn't actually married than the few times she's referenced in a way where she has to be real, specifically that episode on the cruise with the bad guy from Baseketball. When we see his apartment when he's after the police superior, that's not the apartment of a married man. He also obviously lies about his family in the episode with the woman who sees the murder from the boat. He never references those family members again after that, just his one brother. Having no ring is also a clue, but, lots of cops don't wear a ring so it can't be used against them by criminals.
"You tried to kill my wife, and you would've killed me. I take that very personally." That's a wonderful line. And the phone call at the end was so sweet. This is a very well written show.

There is an episode where the killer is an elderly woman with a deteriorating brain disease, and she won't live longer than a couple months . She doesn't remember even killing the man. Her friend confesses to the murder. As they are taking him away Columbo says the it won't take long to break his story. "It might take a couple months." "Yes," Columbo says. "It will."
His accent reminds me so much of my mom and dad. It's been many, many years since I've seen an episode of this show and it never dawned on me that Peter Falk and my parents shared the same accent, I miss hearing their voices.
Sometimes Columbo could really be vicious in a way. He knows this tactic will hurt the killer more, but that's fine with him if it's the best way to catch her. And this time he seems like he might take a little relish in it, since he "take[s] that very personally" after all.
Peter falk, was a brilliant actor. So believeable , that I actually thought that ,that is really who he was even though I knew he was just acting, doing his job, Amazing😮
Mrs Colombo was so involved in her daily activities that we that we never really got to appreciate yeah the beauty of her skills and long suits that she has acquired through the years.
I didn’t like many of the reboots as much as the originals (still, it was better than nothing though) but I did like this one. It’s always interesting to see just how far someone is prepared to take things to gain revenge.
She did not play an evil killer. She played a tragically destroyed character, full of love and desperation and unable to deal with reality. Her dance earlier with the slide projection of the picture of her husband on her dress is so intense that I can understand (but never tolerate!) the emotional pressure to do anything to relieve the pain - even if it is killing someone. This is what you get when you combine excellent writing with a brilliant cast: An experience which actually widens your horizon.
Just finished watching this episode today. The fake funeral for Mrs. Columbo was very well done with the flowers and Columbo playing the role of the widower, tear streaked and weeping and then the scene at the end after Vivian was arrested when he checked in with his wife and she had been watching her soap operas when she was supposed to have been sleeping and Columbo telling her to take her medicine and go to sleep and then her asking him if he'd eaten yet and he said that he was about to and told her "I'm going to hang up now. I love you, too." and then he was so pleased with himself about how he had managed to pull off the fake funeral for his wife that he laughed a bit. He goes from being super intense with Vivian and nails her when she confesses to all three murders to starting to relax and being very sweet to his wife while she's dealing with her flu. They probably had to sleep in separate beds until she recovered from her flu so he wouldn't get sick.

There is an episode where the killer is an elderly woman with a deteriorating brain disease, and she won't live longer than a couple months . She doesn't remember even killing the man.
Her friend confesses to the murder. As they are taking him away Columbo says the it won't take long to break his story.
"It might take a couple months."
"Yes," Columbo says. "It will."
Is that true or did you make that up
You know the name?
The one with the butler and the actress right?
First episode of season 5 - Forgotten Lady
The only Columbo's case where the killer isn't jailed
No matter how many times I watch this, it is still an amazingly satisfying moment: "You see, this is not my kitchen floor." 😆
Wait, so his subterfuge would "hurt the killer more"? As opposed to what?
My favorite episode because he is so good to his wife… 🥰
I knew he was up to something the moment we saw Mrs. Columbo lol
Massive shock when Columbo gets a slap. Did not see that coming. Brilliant acting.
I always thought that I bought all DVD of Columbo to watch it in my old days. But still missing some.
Seen this a thousand times, but I had to watch it again! One of my faves.
Peter falk, was a brilliant actor. So believeable , that I actually thought that ,that is really who he was even though I knew he was just acting, doing his job, Amazing😮
CLASSIC! One of the best moments in Columbo history...
“I didn’t like that you wanted to kill my wife”
“HOW DARE YOU”
Mrs Colombo was so involved in her daily activities that we that we never really got to appreciate yeah the beauty of her skills and long suits that she has acquired through the years.
One of Columbos greatest performances. I have the dvd set too
I just loved Peter Falk and I miss him
I didn’t like many of the reboots as much as the originals (still, it was better than nothing though) but I did like this one.
It’s always interesting to see just how far someone is prepared to take things to gain revenge.
Series like this they don't make any more, rip Peter Falk.
My most favorite episode! Thank you!!
One of the best aspects of this character is his humanity. The empathy he shows is so well portrayed by Falk.
Nice show . Need to be on Netflix on old time detective series.
Yeah, it really needs to be, I really wish to watch these. Just the charisma of Peter falk makes my day already.
I have just watched this episode yesterday morning on Cozi Tv.
Cozi has a television service?
She did not play an evil killer. She played a tragically destroyed character, full of love and desperation and unable to deal with reality. Her dance earlier with the slide projection of the picture of her husband on her dress is so intense that I can understand (but never tolerate!) the emotional pressure to do anything to relieve the pain - even if it is killing someone. This is what you get when you combine excellent writing with a brilliant cast: An experience which actually widens your horizon.
Wise words, Paul.
An excellent encapsulation. 👏 my thoughts as well.
What a fantastic episode! Columbo, always gets his man! And in this case, his female killer too!! 🥺🤔🥺
8:15 "Sahjint, you can add assawlting a pallice offisah to the chahjes."
Columbo was a very very smart man. Miss Peter Falk very much.💕💕💕
How dare you to caught me red handed, lieutenant!
Great acting with a great script 👏
Everytime i see him, he reminds me so much of R.C. Sproul. And vice versa, what an incredible man
She was so close to the ultimate revenge. Until….she was Columbo’d. 👏🏼👌🏼😆❤️
I spent most of this clip just watching the kitchen. Takes me back to my childhood!
Great episode, great acting, great gotcha.
Three years ago you farted
That one sided phone call is everything!
I used to watch it when I was a kid. I didn't realize then how good this series was.
I bought all 9 seasons on DVD but they are in the US and I am stuck in Europe because of covid. So please post a FULL episode. My Dad was friends with Peter in the 1970 they did a sand castle contest together on Long Beach Californian.
Wow that is awesome!
I thought there were 13 seasons?
Download them
Such a superb cast. Peter Falk, my #1 detective heart-throb.
Helen Shaver. Lovely. What a remarkable actress. That final scene startled me. It was like a slap in the face...
