- “If you want it, you can get it,” is what Rashod Bacon hopes to instill in people of color who might see the world of cars as out of reach; unobtainium. He wasn’t born into money or power but made his own way and is now trying to inspire others while documenting his journey with vehicles.

Bacon is an LA native who has the city in his blood. Like many, he was attracted to the freedom and style that the right car can unlock. He casually started an Instagram account, Motoring While Black, to keep his personal feed from being overrun with pictures of his GTI ... but has since evolved it to be a catalyst for connecting with and inspiring other people of color to get into the car scene, while showcasing those who came before him.
The car featured in this video, a BMW 1600 running a straight-six from an E30, is his first vintage machine. The inspiration for the motor swap came on one of his very first drives with the thing when the original engine blew up.
Since then he's been tuning it, refining it, and driving the hell out of it.

Changed title, but still everybody was always included have you ever been to car forums, gatherings, track days, mechanic , tuner, RUclips channels......and see any form of division(age, race, money, disability....) my V8 swap won't start because I am black 🤣🤣

Watched it and when he gets into the "George Floyd"/ "My Blackness"- I turned off. I grew up on military bases all over, in the US & abroad. I'm mixed race, dad is Choctaw/Chickasaw Indian mom is Norwegian...tired of the "We are under represented/oppressed/not seen" division in the US.

Ran into this young dude while on the turnpike yesterday. On the turnpike, because traffic was stopped and his AC and windows weren't working so he was just kind of rolling along with his door open a bit to let some air in. I called out to him and we laughed about it. I noticed he had his IG account on the side of his car, so I pinged him via IG and roasted him a little bit, and we laughed some more. We went back and forth throughout the day talking cars both past and present. See how i didnt mention he was a brown dude and it was still a cool story? Car culture has typically been that way. But this is actually a pretty cool idea, maybe I should start a whites only car club. That wouldn't be divisive at all, would it?

@@olikat8 it would certainly be good to see indigenous Americans being represented. There is no comparison, though, between the often privileged, highly educated and high-earning Asians who are probably the largest minority in American car culture, and the Afro-Caribbeans descended from slaves.
