Montpelier has a race day every first weekend of November - they have a tailgate competition - Flat racing and hedge jumps - it's a great day -Ive worked in the barn for the last 10 years - a must see
The woman who does all the talking here either misspeaks or is simply wrong: there were seven owners between the Madisons and the DuPonts, not between the DuPonts and the National Trust. Marion DuPont Scott, the last private owner, left the house and an endowment to the National Trust. On an unrelated note, I can't help wondering if the exhibition on slavery at Montpelier mentions that James Madison's grandfather died after being poisoned by three of his slaves. (It very well might--I don't know).
Wow, big change from when I saw it in 2019. It had the Art Deco rooms and no original furniture - it was very difficult to visualize what part of the house was the original to the Madison’s. What a great job on the restoration, I will have to go visit again
Wow, I grew up in Virginia from 1986-2002, and when we visited here on field trips, there was next to no furniture. I remember them telling us most of the original contents were sold or stolen long ago. I'd love to go check it out again all these years later!
these days it is only political chatter going on everywhere. such shameless blather by politicos who seem to consider themselves so much more educated, reflective, insightful, compassionate, knowledgable, honest, and brilliant than everyone now alive (and perhaps better intellectually equipped than our founders)? Mr. Madison hardly requires anyone today as his interpreter, by Jove, when will they ever learn? what a scam! total bait!
Just show the house and don't talk so much. People don't start watching this to hear you just blab on and on, trying to make YOURSELF the star instead of Madison and his house.
When I was a kid everything was about the Trinity The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost now it's enslaved, sex and climate change. I wish the whole pop culture obsession would put away their narrow view. These guys ended the the tyrannical rule of the Crown yeah they didn't do it perfectly and the help, the skilled trades, and enslaved helped
Freedom of religion in our 1st amendment is falsely interpreted to mean separation of church and state. That phrase does not appear anywhere in our Constitution or the Bill of Rights. The framers simply meant we (U.S.A.) would not have a Church of The United States like the English monarchy has the Church of England.
I am sick of everyone making the Slave thing a big issue. Yes, we know that there was slavery during their lifetime. Why are we supposed to feel so uncomfortable about it today? Slavery was a part of everyday life. We cannot hold our ancestors to today's standards of what is considered right or wrong. It was a different time and a different life from what we envision today. All peoples of the world, red, yellow, black and white have had Slavery in their history or are decedents of slaves. Sure lets acknowledge that it was a part of daily life and had been since the founding of the country, but lets not make it a big elephant in the room making people feel uncomfortable. Like WE are responsible for the way of life 200 years ago.
She said "slave" 32 times... and no mention of Dolly's ice cream... and if they put an ice stand it would attract more young students, the winery will only attract drunken snobs...
@gJb 1 I wouldn't say racism has fizzled to nothing. Mostly non-existent but comes out every now and then. Not only from white people but all people really
I live in a black dominated community in NJ and I can tell you that some of the worst racists are the blacks that sit on the township committee, they don't deny it because they're proud of their racism.
I want to say something about slavery. once I was accused of causing slavery because I was Caucasian was this individuals reason. Pardon me, I don't think so! My family in no way was responsible for and slavery. My family endured Hitler in Europe. I was quick to inform this person. You tell me what's worse?

Wow--We visited several years back when the house was still pretty empty. you have done so much!

I took the slavery tour several years ago and that was mentioned about the grandfather being poisoned by the slaves.
DOLLY WAS A GREAT FIRST LADY & A TRUE PATRIOT
Our politicians should take a constitutional class .

I love early American history it’s so beautiful ugly and fascinating; it changed the world ever since
BIG SUCK!

How misleading! I wanted to see the house, not listen to a couple of women chattering away like magpies.

They had to BLM it and make it woke
Thanks for no tour. What was the point of this video?!
wow - so cool - Hopefully we might visit in the future.
How smart these men were the writer Constitution establish America Ladies Man or before their time we should get our need everyday and thank them
I’ve been to the home and loved learning more about the Madison family.
It's an honor to be there knowing he and my 4/5th great grandfather Alexander Hamilton and he helped found a country
James Madison is my 7th great grandmothers first cousin and my 3rdcousin 4 times removed and had wrote our us constitution and our bill of rights

I.visited in the fall of 2019, I found the slave stories fascinating. They did live there and contributed a lot.
It's not free to visit the grounds anymore
You talked a lot but we never saw the house, shut up and video tape
Any one who owned a slave deserves a place of derision in our history.

Of course , you know old white men were evil smh
We get the slave thing. History is different , it was amazing at times and crazy at times. Just look and think and learn and leave.
Sadly, it appears that white Euporean descendents who live in America, still deny the sins of their ancestors.

@@allencollins6031 We don't bear arms in a civilised society. That's why the police don't carry guns unless its an armed unit.
