Cupped hand slap on the ear can completely disable someone, even a very large opponent. I remember it being mentioned in "Secret Fighting Arts". But one thing that is good to know that I learned from that book is the chin strike. If you can catch someone with a punch directly on the point of their chin it sends a shockwave straight through to the medulla and the person will be out cold in a second. You don't even have to hit them very hard, but you do have to be accurate.

      That’s a great one too!

@@kalicenter Apparently it was a Tibetan monk technique to settle fights "nonviolently" (or at least keep it to the bare minimum, lol) without actually hurting someone. It also has the advantage of appearing like a "harmless" gesture, because it requires so little force to cause the shockwave.

Any of these would be great if done with the live had to open the way for your blade. My favorite of these is the slap.

As you mentioned, the only one I would have reservations about is the punch. Solar plexus, liver, kidney, all good for the punch.
Never to the head. I would use hammer fists, palm strikes, elbows or hacks.

The first combo I was taught
    1 right
    3 right
    4 left
    2 right
    Then reverse the combo
My instructors would punish me if I used 5 to the head.
Maybe to the jaw with the aim being more towards the throat but if my punch wasn't hammer I was gonna catch it.
My first two instructors were what I called purists.
Broken hands can't use weapons fool.
Don't you dare sully this with boxing blah blah
First time I ever got knocked out was with a hammer fist 😅
But to be fair they were combat vets who were stationed in the region so for them not being able to use their weapons was death.
So to this day number 5 is done from the neck down and is secondary to a hammer fist always.
Old habits die hard I suppose.
    Good video bro
Still miss the Chicago vibe but greetings from NC

@@kalicenter I've put the last 8 years into Kali, with a martial arts history dating back to the 1960's. My one difficulty with Kali has been the mindset that the practitioner is looking for the Counter Offense. Much of the train9ing revolves around looking for what the opponent gives you to work with. My personal reality at 75 years of age is that I am not waiting to rely upon my reactions and twitch reflexes to save me. When I make the decision that force is necessary to protect myself, I am counting on an initial attack to create the opening to use those brutal attack weapons. The straightest fastest move is the fingers jab from a position of hands raised feigning submission. The hand slap, palm strike etc. all work, but are a tad slower and it takes no force if a finger touches the eyes. I am a real fan of the Kali Center and by no means am being critical. But my Kali is old man Kali and I by no means have anything remotely close to GT's skills.

    • @kalicenter

In our in person training we focus on getting to the offense. The real martial arts questions is “how do I attack?” Not, “how do I defend.” Kali truly is an offensive system unlike how most teach/show it today. Of course my YT channel is generalized to the majority of public. You may like our training camps.

if you palm someone in the front of the face be prepared for their teeth to break into your hand, possibly cutting your tendons and or giving you a nasty infection to boot.

Thank you For this. I didnt know Filipino martial arts technique is studied.
Typical Filipina way especially for self defense especially from harassment to this day is # 5
Or slapping a guy's face who disrespects us verbally.
We dont need to study it on in school.
To this day, that is part of our culture especially in women. We maybe cute and beautiful. But you harass us,
You will see elbows, slaps and stars.

@@kalicenter Thank you for the reply. My profession is firearms related which makes me paranoid about hand injuries.
Thank you for mentioning 6:25. My training specialty is subconscious conditioning during training drills, my first example is the circus knife thrower that tried to kill his wife and missed, so practicing any type of punching may trigger an involuntary reaction in a fight. We train palm strikes, cuped hand to the ear, elbows, edge of hand strikes and low kicks never bare foot, preferably heavy boots.
