    Can't say I'm surprised, I quit around the part I got my ship, when I figured out I had to farm all those little fruits and then people started saying you also have to up keep multiple alts to help you farm stuff and funnel into your main was the moment I was like "Yeah this game ain't for me".

    The alts sounded good when I thought if it like “Oh I get to play multiple classes,” then I realized I only liked 3 classes and had no desire to invest in my alts to continue funneling to my main. The dailies are mind numbing. The raids are cool but doing 18 raids a week is a lot, especially with 6 gate brel. Stone cutting? Pheons? Inflation? All driving factors that lead me to quit

    I feel like if this is the only game you play, and have like no other hobbies, you could probably still keep going. However, this game is absolutely overwhelming to keep up with general IRL stuff and balancing playing other games too. This game was amazing to play up until endgame, then I realized there would be an insane grind and farm component, and I would need to take time to learn all the mechanics needed to stay relevant. I just was overwhelmed and decided to take a break and play games that are a bit more immediate. Enjoyable game play, just hard to justify playing long term.

  • @acheron55
    @acheron55 Год назад +90

    I was looking forward to brel. I had 6 alts, doing dailies every single day. Because I'm f2p, I left my main at 1490 because it was the most efficient. Then first week I got up to 1500, barely. And realized it is pretty much impossible to get 1520 for next gate without 3-4 more weeks of grinding. Because you don't generate enough tokens to buy next tier pieces. They deliberately made pieces require so much token to force you buy gear. Then I thought to myself, if I'm playing this game every single day, doing chaos dungeons on 6 chars every single day, and I cannot get to play latest content without dropping real money; what am I even doing. I quit the next day, after having 2k+ hours, didn't even think about the game until this video. Yeah I took a month break at some point, I didn't play perfectly optimal, but if I put 2k hours in a year, I feel like I should be able to do the latest content

    • @gliath888
      @gliath888 Год назад +17

      Lost Ark andies will say you have to put 4k+ hours into the game to be entitled to doing end game content because you shouldn't be able to "rush content" according to them. They say play at your own pace, but will take advantage of the market and grind the game out to stay ahead. Leaving behind the casual players who like the side content or don't play 4+ hours a day. The "play at your own pace" naysayers are so full of shit, its egregious. Like look at Book prices now? Pheon/Blue Crystals? Item Costs? Gold removed from certain content to mitigate botting? Island content that required groups? guardian raid progression? World boss fights? So much content is either dead or undoable now then if you had done it alot earlier and many things changed since then that many took advantage of early when they could. They will defend all the shitty rng mechanics in this game til the very day the game finally dies, saying its fair and should remain cause SG needs to be paid and by the time the Western version catches up to KR, there wont even be a player base left to play. lmao Also, the game was developed in 2011 and in Unreal 3. Its almost 12 years old. If it doesnt die from how bad its been mismanaged and unfixed, then it will just die bc the next thing will come out and everyone will forget about it.

      Western developers suck at creating PvE MMO's for the most part..name me a single one with focus on combat which isnt WoW.. and wow isnt even action combat
      Also Lost ark is only about raiding in the endgame.. if this game didnt have this grind, then people wouldnt play it for long..because they would realize it has no content...people would play like it asmongold does.. he praises the dungeons and raids.. but he doesnt go and do the raids every single week on multiple characters
      its a kind of content which takes super long to develop

    I completely agree with what Asmon said around 22:30 onward. The gameplay loop is the reason i quit. Yes, the bots were annoying, yes, the inflation was crippling, yes there is a multitude of other issues.
    The real problem is having to do 2 guardians/chaos a day on 4-6 characters (if you're not gonna swipe) to keep up with the completely ridiculous honing rates, on top of a dozen other layered RNG systems like stones, etc. It's just cancer. It's not fun, like he said, it gives you low key PTSD.

      The real problem is that you don't have to do anything and you still force yourself to. I used to be a victim of my addiction or FOMO too, now i just open the game, play a raid i like and close it.
      So simple, yet people are not able to play games for fun. They must be optimal at all times, which defies the concept of play, entertainment, fun, etc... Next time, try to remember the goal is to do fun stuff when you play ;p

    • @sebastian192
      @sebastian192 Год назад +2

      its actually a dopamine farm hamster wheel, you do very tedious daily tasks that are super repetitive and kinda painful to do, then you get to click on the honing button, you get that risk/gambling excitment, and sweet sweet dopamine hit when you finally get your tap, then back to the grind for the next tap
      that is the whole gameplay loop, the hard boss fights are not the challenges of the game, they are actually the REWARDS you get to do after you struggle through the honing loop

    • @gabrielcat72
      @gabrielcat72 Год назад +2

      @@sebastian192 That's the whole point ; you don't have to force yourself into doing whatever. Just stop.
      Congratulations you now have control over yourself and what you do ! No thing or person can dictate you. Stop pretending inanimate object and things have control over you ; they don't. Take full responsability for yourself. You get to choose what you do at every moment , magnificient ain't it ?
      Now apply this to every aspect of your life and don't forget games too ; you are meant to have fun playing them ;)
      That being said, yeah every aspect of every possible modern entertainment tries to get the best of you and this game is no exception. Addiction-inducing activities are all over the world and they're all fighting for YOUR attention. What are you gonna do about it ?
      You're gonna learn to direct your attention to where you'd like it to be.
      Are you able to remain in the drivers seat ? Or do you become driven by urges and desires ?
      Realistically, a bit of both. But as one grows older and wiser, maybe he becomes able to give himself the choice.
      Personally I haven't been honing for months in this game. I log on, do a fight I enjoy on a character I enjoy, then proceed to close the game. Fun's been had, let's move on.
      Before, people would say not to do drugs, but now everything is drug-like. If you can't learn to manage yourself, you're screwed. Might as well start now

    i genuinely out of the bottom of my heart wished this game would succeed yet even i found myself quitting, when the game came out i put 50 hours into the game in the span of 3 days and 3000+ hours into the game felt like a choir or as the koreans refer to it "homework" which in itself wouldnt even be a problem, it is quite common for MMOs to cause burnout when there is content drought, however lost ark actively punishes you with its flawed honing system urging you to continue playing without allowing yourself to take a break. I havent played the game in about 4 months and even though id like to return i just feel like it isnt worth it, id have to do so much grinding again to even get to current content that by the time i reach it id be burned out again. it is simply unrealistic to assume a person has so much free-time or even will to play the same game over and over again and also doing the SAME THINGS in it over and over again.

    29:58 It's only very rare that lead directors *actively* know specific problems of the game. Yoshi-P has been asked some of the most specific questions in the past and he managed to answer most of them in the producer live letters, which was a reason he got the popularity. GoldRiver I've heard has done similar sorts, which was why people loved him so much.
    For example in FFXIV, you can get special primal mats upon desynthizing/dismantling weapons dropped from the same primal's fight. However, for the longest time, it was never consistent (where some weapons straight up never drop mats via desynth) and overlooked by the dev team until someone brought it up to Yoshi-P. The patch after, every primal that has their special mat now has the ability to drop from their respective weapons.

This heavily mitigates Botting or hacking as your account is directly related to you. Game then comes to the west, people can make unlimited accounts and engage in Botting etc risk free. This is made worse by the fact that this Western problem is relayed back to Smilegate who now have to try to fix an issue they have little to no experience with.

They can change the honing system to instead of giving chance to succeed to instead give chance to items to drop from bosses/dungeons, that way it gives reason for players to grind and when they get the mats its guaranteed upgrade so it will feel like you accomplished something. Getting mats must be grindy not the upgrading part, as that makes grinding less valuable and lose interest easily as its all gambling and thers no feeling of accomplishment as it was all just luck.

    1. they need to change the honing rates in the west (probably to always have at least a 20% chance of success at least especially on older gear)
    2. get rid of pheons
    3. fix the auction house constant issues
    4. Make guardian raids only require 1 time a day. (Give the same amount of reward for completing it once).
    5. give more rewards for doing chaos or guardians more than the required amount of times. (this will make ppl who dont want to p2w find a way to catch up to those that do pay money to get ahead). There is honestly no reason to delay progress behind reward gates other than trying to get people frustrated so they can spend money.

    I need to convince a group to carry my ass as I learn the fights and also hope they themselves are capable of doing them too. Unsurprisingly no one wants to do that. I think my only in right now is bump up my Bard to get more leverage and patience on groups but its a ball ache with 1 / 3% hone rates.
    Lost Ark is in severe need of a solo practice mode, the only 'practice' is dead as it requires a group which, so far, I have not seen any. I know I can get the gates down with a bit of practice but getting it is incredibly difficult and I think its guna keep players away once they 'fall behind' as I have.

    Something I don't see players talking about that often when it comes to bots is the corrupt business incentive to keep them around. What do shareholders want in a game they're investing in? They want to see that the game is doing well. The most commonly used metrics within the games industry to determine the success of a game is CCU (Concurrent Users) aka how many players are continually logging into the game to play. There are other key metrics as well such as WAU and MAU (Weekly/Monthly active users). For Lost Ark, bots are making these metrics look better to shareholders. and looking good to shareholders / making shareholders happy is far more important to a company than it's players, because shareholders control the business.

    The bots are not the problem, the main problem is the player base as a player you are not allowed to be human and make mistakes. You are expected to have the best gear, gems, etc and you are expected to use the cookie-cutter talent tree if you don't other players will call you out on it in the middle of a raid. Lost Ark has a very toxic player base and streamers don't make it any better, they make it seem like people can do all of this quickly, and of course, you can your job is to play games and stream it.

    Mechanically the game is amazing. Engaging and rewarding combat, graphics, music, and the boss encounters are top tier. Once you rapport all the npcs, max your stronghold, and get your ships there's nothing to do in the open world. The gameplay loop then becomes 3 rotating active bosses that give gold/material which need to be cleared on 6 characters each week, 12 chaos dungeons and 12 guardian bosses everyday to stay relevant. As new boss fights emerge the oldest fight is phased out and thats what your left with for a game. 5 min chaos, 5 min guardian raid and your speding 3 to 4 hours/day to maintain your account. On avg it takes about 30mins to kill each boss so 34 hours/week to maintain your account with content that does not change for about 3 hours for the 1 new boss that is released every 6 months. And that new content boss is ideally killed 6 times the first week its released. And now we are waiting for that 1 new boss encounter that will become a chore after its week 1 release for another 6 months.

    I enjoyed Lost Ark when it first came out, in early access, there were no bots because you had to buy some shit, it was great, the campaign was nice, some really memorable instances like capturing the castle and other iconic fights. You then explore the islands, do the content... At this stage you are only playing one character, it is great, you find your mokoko seeds, doing your islands and other shit...
    Then the game ends and not only do you get a treadmill, it is a treadmill you have to repeat 6 times to be "optimal" and you are hit with a tsunami of FOMO.
    It was so hard for me to finally kick everyone out of my guild and uninstall, but it was great, after that short withdrawal period I was like... holy shit, I have so much free time, what happened... oh yeah, I cut that LA crap out that was just sponge for my free time. I have no regrets.
    I am really anti-MMOs now, the realisation that they lure you in with a lie, all those quests and exploration, that is just to hook you in, I think any game where the "end-game" is radically different to the level process is false advertising and we just get lazy content creation in the end, just obnoxious moronic things to waste our time doing, shit we wouldn't accept a paying job to do something that monotonous.

    I've spend >2000 hours and stopped playing back in september. I think this was a good decision while I do not feel bad about the time I've spend in the game. Having a good time. But on one point the inflation started hitting so hard that it did not really felt worth playing anymore. I remember the time when crystals where 200 Gold. I never spend money to push my characters - it was all played - and still had six characters always ready for current content and well equiped. It feld still well balanced if you just spend a lot of time till may/june. I played on daily basis and always had my costs covered by myself. But with the inflation increasing drastically in july/august it did not feel rewarding anymore. Crystal prices explode. RMT was 1 Million Gold for 200 EUR and nobody gets banned. So endgame is all about making gold or get stuff that is worth gold. And like asmon says: Why doing all stuff twice per character. I started playing doing my stuff all 3 days because I really didnt want to do that loop anymore. To a point i stopped playing.

Finding people to do group content can take quite a while and even when doing that content many of the newer players have no idea how any of the fights or mechanics work which can lead to wipes. Then you get people who will instantly vote quit after one wipe. It's extremely rough. It makes trying to get to the end game content is so rough. Especially with everything that goes into improving your character. The grind is absolutely rough.

    I'm nearing the 4500 hour mark myself and I got to say it's still a fantastic ride. Thing is, it's fundamentally a Korean MMO. You need to get enjoyment out of the very slow and arduous progression your characters make after devoting a very long time. Nearly all Korean MMO's function like this in order to keep up to date with Content. That's very simply how they operate, and have since the early days of Ragnarok Online where P2W wasn't even a viable option. If you don't get enjoyment out of that, then it's easy to imagine someone getting burnt out and it feeling like a second job just to get by. To be frank, it practically is.

  • @NepuNepuNepu

    After a year, you would expect AG to provide a free ticket that allows new players to powerpass their new character to 302 without playing the main story (Obviously, this can be abused which is why we don't have it and we have the choice to spend money to powerpass if you're a new player or wait until they gave one with limitations).
    And most player usually quit or stopped while in the main storyline, but never had the chance to play with the infamous honing system because players are doing their own thing. They either enjoy the story and play whatever they want or get drawn away due to the fact you have to finish the main storyline that usually takes 20+ hours (give or take) to do actual content.
    After playing for 400 hours, it was difficult to level up your main and the common way is to have multiple alts at 1300+ to feed your main (Excluding events).
    I recently came back to lost ark 2 days ago and noticed there was a heavy decline in players doing tier 1 and tier 2 content and its fairly active at tier 3 content. Since I couldn't get into a randomize group during matchmaking (Since I powerpassed my arcana to 302 and hit 600 today) and when I did the guardian raid challenges or trails, its usually 1300-1400 gs players.
    Gold inflation hit so hard that you have to give 2-3k gold for 95 blue crystals when I played, it was only 300-400 gold.
    Bots are swarming even much more worse and I start seeing them in tier 1-3 areas. (Luterra, Yorn, and Punika)
    Its truly unfortunate how lost ark was handled by AG and why my friend told me it was a dying game after seeing it myself. It was a fun game (Except their honing sysfem and I still have nightmares about). The more I played the game, I noticed changes to the abyssal raids and especially the tier 1 brel raid where the lights aren't straight, but in a cone shape to make it easier for players.
    As always, when AG touches something, it withers to nothing.
    TDLR:
    - Not friendly to new players due to timegated main storyline. With no opinion to skip the mainstory entirely without paying for powerpass.
    - Repetitive task and grinding
    - Botting and gold inflation
    - Lack of tier 1 and 2 players in NA East.

    This video hits on all the points for why I quit playing. Random disconnects during raids, which leads to losing weekly raid chance. Out of control bot situation that destroyed the AH. Repetitive game loop: 2x chaos, 2x guardians, etc on multiple characters. RMT making guild pvp unfair.

    Hey,everyone I am Taiwanese. There is a news today about Lost Ark announcing the postponement the day before the public beta, because China wants to suppress the Taiwan market

    I played Lost Ark for 300+ hours after release. Amazing game, except for one small hitch. It was great to linearly go through the game getting gear and upgrading it. Up until the point where the game really forced one to buy to have such upgrades ( p2w ). Until then it was super casual fun...not sure if the game further balances how casual players play the game by giving them certain gear with ilvl for free. It did at the EU release but somehow I've gotten tired of hoping that this will be the standard for player retention. If Lost Ark made money on some sort of battle pass system ( which they added to the game and I just stopped playing) and only cosmetic stuff I would be fine with it even if they couldn't be bought at auction. It was one of the few games that had balanced PVP or rather would have if people weren't allowed to use potions and stuff like that. And the same is true for PvE content.

    I had like 3k hours in the game. Its a KR grindfest for sure. The 'do the same thing' every day, followed by, 'do this one thing' a couple times a week makes the game feel like a waste of time. FOMO is not fun.

    I am not surprised at all this game is dying. Well deserved and good riddance

    I quit after the first raid was impossible with randoms. Ridiculous, that a artillerist is able to dodge shit but every one else is just running into the red

    Another factor to this is that a lot of regions are blocked from playing the game, mainly SEA. I'm still bitter from the fact that I waited years and years for it to get a global release but then I get region blocked coz Amazon doesn't care about SEA players for some reason. I still played the game when it launched using VPN (thousands of SEA players did) and managed to reach end game with a constant 200 - 300 ping (sometimes it would peak at 900 when raiding with a party). The game pretty much became unplayable at that point since I can't do PvP and boss raids efficiently due to high ping. It's such a shame coz there's a lot of SEA players that whales in MMORPGs and don't mind this kind of gameplay loop.
