Sorry...that's not the 1987 model, that would be the 1985 model. The box says 22RE engine, that's the 2.4L fuel-injected engine, and the truck still has a straight-front-axle. 1985 was the first year for fuel-injection in the pickups, and the last year straight-front-axles were offered in the USA. I know these things because I have the 1:1 version sitting in my driveway, and I used to own/operate a Toyota 4x4 shop. Cool to see the inclinometer on the dash. The side marker lights are just that...they don't blink as turn signals. I'm a fan of tube-bumpers, so I modded my side marker lights to blink as turn signals as well. The final thing I noticed is, the SR5 version would have chrome trim around the windshield, the marker lights, the grill would be chrome, the mirrors as well, a chrome strip where the window comes up out of the door, chrome door handles, chrome-trimmed wing windows and XtraCab side windows, and I think chrome trim around the wheel wells. So you'll have to scrape that SR5 sticker off...lol.
Awe man my vote is to paint it black get a brush guard out front, a light bar/Rollbar in the bed and then you'll have the Marty McFly yota from Back to the Future! 😍
That's suppose to be modeled after 1985. EFI first year and last year of solid axle. Whatever color the interior is, the stripes on the exterior should match. Can't remember what red trucks got.The wheels are pretty close to the originals that came on the factory truck nice job RC4WD. How do I know all this, I own that same exact truck the real. 1985 x-cab SR5 EFI solid axle white gray bucket with gray stripes power everything cruise with sunroof. SR5 also got chrome grille door handle and chrome trim around the windshield.
Looks good! I do wish RC4WD would make a new mold for the cab/grill to make the fenders more accurate but meh, the nice paintjob distracts from that! And it's very nice it has the reversal kit already. And don't forget to ditch the snow shovel transfer case skid, if you get a longer rear shaft (although that new 3 piece one might be long enough) you don't even need the carrier bearing if you get one of the skids that raises the case up. Oh! And RC4WD does have a 'Dress up kit' for the engine bay that includes plug wires, a radiator hose n' stuff. Part Number is Z-S0705
My Marlin came out the box with XVDs, too. I bought it from Amderson RC in Thomasville, NC and immediately ordered the XVDs with the gold band around the steering joint. When they came in, I tore the axle apart to find it came with the XVDs with a black band on them. I went ahead and pulled those out for a backup set and put the ones I ordered back in. I'm probably going to have to add this new RTR to my collection, soon.
Go on...turn it into a Technical😉👍🏻 I'll bet that front spoiler won't last long on many that are crawled!.😄 The unknown silver engine bay can you pointed at is, I suspect, the power steering reservoir.
The silver can in front of the brake master cylinder is the power steering fluid reservoir. Curiously the cap is stamped Toyoda (not Toyota). As is the power steering box.
So the big question , why did Rc4wd use and call it a 87 model when the front straight axle was on the 85? The year model is not correct. Do you like the white one or the black back to the future one better? The truck looks great with the white paint job!
I dont have a clue on the year model issue, they modelled this after tom's real truck. Im not a back to the future fan but I do like that it came with all the tube bumpers already. But this in white looks fantastic, Ive got parts coming for it already, to make it my own. They really have upped the RTR paint level since the scottsdale and now this. Cant wait to see whats next.
90's show trucks I recall would have Boggers or, more likely, Thornbirds. Also, pink KC Highlighters, pastel graphics and (minimum) triple tube bed bars. Just sayin'. I've got old 4 Wheeler Jamboree event program books to prove those claims. Great looking version of the TF2, though. Can't wait to see the end results.
This is such a nice truck,I understand why rc4wd did the front fenders the way they did on the xtracab body but they should've went the extra step and fixed that. I still dig it and might have to pick this up when Uncle Sam pays me when I file my taxes, lol. I definitely say stock truck look. I was never one for a 'show truck'. Me personally,a truck is meant to be a truck, not some fancy show queen. But it's just my preference.
Nice truck! So I’m assuming this one is replacing the Black Back to Future truck? Looks good , I just think it needs some nice aluminum wheels and different tires……
Brooo that's a sweet truck ! It would look good done up like the first Toyota we all owned or wanted, the Tyco bandit 🤷♂️ Chrome rollbars to match the tube bumpers, kc highlights to keep it era correct
Great looking truck! Not sure which direction I would go?...I like the engine tray. Got one on my 4 Runner, painted it and patina of course. RC4WD has a dress up kit for it with hoses that really makes it look good. Bit of a pain getting all those tiny wires glued in but worth it in the end.
@RCeveryday thanks for the info, I'll order one of those. The last two I got were the Smart 1100 for my class 2 crawlers and they definitely hurt the wallet.
I wonder how the body is built in the factory so good cos I built mine separately. iit was a challenging build especially the plastic glass was a nightmare to do without messing it up with the glue finding its way underneath the glass
Would the older D10 body fit on this LWB chassis. Thinking of running this with my d110 and a few times with this newer great body. Thank you and great unboxing
I'm so torn with RC4WD. They go to such lengths for great scale realism, but they continue to put the steering servo on the wrong side of the chassis and that just kills it for me...at least for domestic trucks. It looks good on my D110, though. LOL
Thinking about buying the same rig from them! Does it come with the tools to take the wheels off? And what battery do you run for a lipo got some extra laying 2-3s laying around and wondering if those would work good with it!
Actually, the wheels are what came on the 1984 Toyota pickup I had a red Toyota 4x4 that is identical twin to this white 1987 I wish i would have kept my Toyota pickup Brought it brand new 1984 was 12000 dollars Extra cab 22 R Not loaded Color red The 1985 was 14000 dollars Single cab long bed Loaded color black 22r-E
The same wheels also came on earlier pickups and some J40 Land Cruisers. My 82 4WD Hilux came on a set of chrome ones that it still has, although I do have some alloys for my specialty tires.
I had a 1985 4x4, last year of the straight axle. Wish I would have kept it. Mine had the 22re, fully loaded. Black with grey stripes, grey bucket velour seats and door panels, sun roof, electric windows, cruise control, etc. I bought a new Tacoma in 2001 and sold my old one to my wife’s parents who eventually sold it….
@fastdude2002 Sound actually like the one I had The 22R-E little truck would do a 100 mph with no problem The 84 toy I had was lucky to do 75 on flat ground The 22R-E were great engines for the size of the truck
not without some work. Im unsure the wheel base of hte traxxas, but mounting it would need some adapters like shrinkrc makes. Might have to cut out the bed floor to clear the traxxas suspension.

Man they already have an rtr Marty truck with the right wheels bars and all.
It’s always out of stock
It is discontinued thats why

I love the little commercial RC4WD put on their YT channel for this one.

That is a lovely truck wish had the pennies to buy one! When I do a build always paint it as shiny as I can get it then let usage weather it!
I vote 90s show truck
Nice dude! ….Chrome wheels need to go also and maybe bigger tires?

My Vote would be to make it look like an old Toyota woods truck that one might see driving down the Road in Southern Kentucky lol 😊
Just ordered one. Figured the collection needed #30 to be a nice even number. Lol

Look it comes with a blown head gasket!
Looks Awesome so far 💯
I've got 2 xtra cabs. One is my Bttf Marty truck. The other I am custom building which I painted blue. It looks awesome.
Wow. LOVE this one. And those ole toyotas were such great trucks. Really like how close they kept it to scale
I have used sharpie markers on the inside of clear turn signal lenses and they turn out nice compared to paint.

Bahahah…. When you threw that saxophone jam in I lost it. 😂😂😂 That’s freaking sharp looking out of the box!!
Man I love that rig. I would add the cab visor on it.
That’s the way to go🤌 this thing is sick!!!!
Thanx for sharing this really nice truck!
Will be fun to see it run!

Oh boy Ilove this truck! It's maybe the best rtr SCALE truck?
Very nice truck. I wish they clip on the taillights or go with a micro screw. Thanks for sharing Josh.
Was hoping for a quick release body on this one, nice video, Thanks for the info!!
Scale 12” sub box for the back seat. Boggers on the stock wheels also
seeing it on video makes it look way better. Guess I gotta beg the wife to get one
rc4wd always takes the pics at weird angles, lol

If it were a true 87 it'd have IFS 85 was the last year for solid axle in everything but the landcruiser
15x10 on 275 60 15 or
15x12 on 295 60 15 was my favorite combo.
Nice looking truck man, my suggestion would be if your still thinking about retiring old red this could be it's replacement 😀 👊🏼🤙🏼💨💨
Beautiful truck, rear inner fenders! Wish I had those for the k10
This truck is so clean looking. Definitely on the want list but the Scottsdale is my baby
Its brand new i wouldnt expect it to be dirty
I definitely want this… drool. 😅
My plans for it will be a Fusion Pro and probably some kind of Reefs servo and add it on to my Flysky GT5.
Thats a solid plan, Im liking my reefs 422HD over my 444's now days, especially on my tf2's Save about $30 and they seem quieter to me.
@RCeveryday thanks for the info, I'll order one of those. The last two I got were the Smart 1100 for my class 2 crawlers and they definitely hurt the wallet.
@@RCeveryday have you measured the tires yet? I'm curious how tall the rtr ones are.
They are 3.5 inch, pretty small scale tires
I found it online. 3.59" for the KO2. I'm wondering if I could get away with a 1.9 wheel and the 4.19 Goodyear MTR.
nice rig
Absolutely gorgeous👍🛻🚘
Curious why you don't include a direct link to rc4wd's site? They are now sending you these things right? Seems off if true.
Sometimes they provide a link to track numbers. Sometimes they don’t. I still put a link in the description.
Those are so cool!!!
I wonder how the body is built in the factory so good cos I built mine separately. iit was a challenging build especially the plastic glass was a nightmare to do without messing it up with the glue finding its way underneath the glass
I wonder that too, its cleaner and better painted than I was able to build one as well. They have some skilled workers.
@@RCeveryday exactly & i was meticulous with my build but still not as good as factory......
I agree Marty McFly it
So Beautiful Car 4WD ❤
Would the older D10 body fit on this LWB chassis. Thinking of running this with my d110 and a few times with this newer great body. Thank you and great unboxing
It’s been a while since I had the d110. But I’m pretty certain the wheelbase was different than these lwb. No clue how much different though.
I'm so torn with RC4WD. They go to such lengths for great scale realism, but they continue to put the steering servo on the wrong side of the chassis and that just kills it for me...at least for domestic trucks. It looks good on my D110, though. LOL

Yes it comes with the wheel adapter, and yea they work well on lipos. I use 3000 3cell on most of mine.
Wow! What a beauty.Just as it is.
Actually, the wheels are what came on the 1984 Toyota pickup
I had a red Toyota 4x4 that is identical twin to this white 1987
I wish i would have kept my Toyota pickup
Brought it brand new
1984 was 12000 dollars
Extra cab 22 R
Not loaded
Color red
The 1985 was 14000 dollars
Single cab long bed
Loaded color black
22r-E
The same wheels also came on earlier pickups and some J40 Land Cruisers. My 82 4WD Hilux came on a set of chrome ones that it still has, although I do have some alloys for my specialty tires.
I had a 1985 4x4, last year of the straight axle. Wish I would have kept it. Mine had the 22re, fully loaded. Black with grey stripes, grey bucket velour seats and door panels, sun roof, electric windows, cruise control, etc. I bought a new Tacoma in 2001 and sold my old one to my wife’s parents who eventually sold it….
@fastdude2002
Sound actually like the one I had
The 22R-E little truck would do a 100 mph with no problem
The 84 toy I had was lucky to do 75 on flat ground
The 22R-E were great engines for the size of the truck
Nice toyota mate 👍💪😜👋
How the heck does the body mount onto the chassis? Any info or video showing this?
4 screws, 2 on each side rocker panel. I swap all mine out to grub screws so the body can easily be pulled off from each side.
What a pain! I wish their were a clipless body mount for these.
Ik this doesn't have anything to do with the video but will the element ifs2 kit work on a scx10
I don’t have any experience on that topic. I’d think it could work as those platforms are similar. Can’t say for sure
What is the three way switch on side of the controller for?
for channel 3, you can add a winch or even a 2 speed transmission
Would the body fit on a trx4 hi trail
not without some work. Im unsure the wheel base of hte traxxas, but mounting it would need some adapters like shrinkrc makes. Might have to cut out the bed floor to clear the traxxas suspension.
Where can I purchase this ?
Rc4wd.com
Mantap 👍
But the price....
It's just too high.
I can't justify the price.
You must know someone that knows someone to get it already. Lol
Looks scale AF
Be nice if they'd send lipos these days...
They did do a fabulous job on this body though
Power steering tank next to master cylinder
Traxxas sucks
Paint it
