Ok for once you guys have giving me something new for me to listen. I've been very old pink floyd and never really gave later pink floyd a listen too but have to agree with Alex is enjoyed it more that I thought but theres such a difference between the old 70s psychedelic floyd and the new 80s pop floyd but yet in the background that pink floyd sound. Look forward to your next choice
The third verse of this song always sends chills up my spine. "A dream unfettered by the morning light Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night" Just a song that touches my soul. My favorite post-Waters Floyd tune. Peace
This song always takes me back to highschool. Hanging out with my friends, driving at night to something or another. This is such an excellent night-driving song.
I'm 16, but haven't heard this song specifically in at least 10 years, haha... It was nice hearing it again; I love Pink Floyd, have listened to most of their stuff in the past few years. But somehow this one just slipped through, but I immediately recognized it from the first second
Such a beautiful song! The only one I felt I could come close to singing on Smule! I believe its still there if anyone wants to hear it. I'm going to say Sorrow! Another amazing song of of that album! And Mr. Gilmour's amazing guitar work!
That powerful beat is fantastic, combined with the chanting style of David Gilmour's singing and the beautiful backing music makes this a later era gem of Pink Floyd. 😍
@Andy & Alex I had the opportunity of a lifetime to see Pink Floyd live on outdoor stage in Hamburg in 1989, it was during the "Another Lapse of Reason" Tour with David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason that later culminated in the "Live in Venice" show, I think. As you can imagine when you see video footage from this tour, their presentation and musical performance - combined with their breathtaking light shows - made this concert for me the ultimate live performance of a rock band that I had ever previously experienced, or have ever since (although I have also seen such giants of music like Jethro Tull, Dire Straits and Billy Joel live on stage, who were and still are absolutely fantastic). It was a balmy summer's evening, the daylight dimming slowly, when the show really got on its unforgettable way, the light show blasting lasers into the warm, night sky and culminating in a mind blowing rendition of "Comfortably Numb" - my absolute favourite Pink Floyd track, an uncut diamond amongst priceless jewels - a moment in life never to be forgotten, ever. I just wanted to share a piece of my memories with you guys, seeing that you are both now travelling the Pink Floyd road to rock music perfection. 🌟🌟🌟
I lived in South Eastern NM when this album released. This song, driving through the long stretches of NM desert at night or during storms in my 66 Mustang. Perfectly Zen moments🙂
This song is way underrated! I love the video. It has a Native American in it and beautiful scenery. I have Native American blood in me, Cherokee and Blackfoot. Not full blooded but some of my folks are full blooded. I really have to say this is one of my top favorites from Pink.....awesome song!! My native American name is "singing bird" I can relate to the feathers, and the Bird and flying and seeing visions!( Hoka hey
The music of Pink Floyd is a masterpiece. It is outside the concepts of fashionable or not fashionable. She is good for all generations. This group was radically different in sound from everything that was then and now too. I remember how we waited for the release of Pink Floyd's new album in the 70s, 80s. Pink Floyd is a team of professionals, talented professionals. Extreme demands on even the sound background, the smallest details of the background. Multiply all this by imagination and quality of workmanship + studio work of the highest class. I am very surprised, but even more glad that Pink Floyd today sounds in your headphones. You are a new generation and you also appreciated Pink Floyd.
I saw Pink Floyd in concert when they were touring this album. One of the best shows I've been to. Of course, there was so much weed being smoked that you get a contact high from the air around you. The part in this song when his voice is distorted, there was this green laser light that moved in a wave-like pattern through the haze, creating a three-dimensional wave pattern through the smoke. The visual effects in the concert were mindblowing.
I seen this tour at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium on 9-17-87, great show! My ticket price was only $20, haha. Fav songs from the album are The Dogs of War, Yet Another Movie & Sorrow.
Both David Gilmour and Nick Mason were training for their pilot's licenses while this album was being recorded. The cockpit chatter is an actual recording from one of Mason's training flights. That's the literal explanation of the lyrics, though many have proposed that it was about Gilmour taking the helm of Pink Floyd for the first time. Either way, it's a great story.
Hey guys, just subscribed to your channel. I immediately noticed that you guys have tons of seriously great song choices. Once I finish going through all your videos I'll try to think of a great song for you two to check out.
One other note Learning to Fly, Nick Mason was a helicopter pilot when this song was made and the cockpit voices in the middle is i think either Nick or David talking and adjusting the plane before it takes off and David was always late on recording in his floating studio
@Andy & Alex Do yourselves as big favour and watch Pink Floyd live at Live 8 in London in 2005. You will never witness a better live performance by the group of their best songs - and Pink Floyd were reunited that night, all four original members playing their arguably best live concert together, ever. I know that you both get hundreds of recommendations from your viewers, but this one is truly heartfelt. 😘🐖
I like that whole album, the first REAL Pink Floyd album since "Animals." Love this song, it has layers of meaning, more than other songs on the album and it's catchy. Gilmour was criticized by some because the songs had so many writing credits but that's just because he was generous that way, unlike Waters.
@@1nelsondj you couldn't be anymore wrong if you tried. I'm no arguing with you anyway, I'm not getting dragged down to your level. Just you keep thinking that
Now that you are entering Momentary Lapse of Reason - you need to listen to One Slip. David Gilmour's acky--tacky guitar style really shines on this one. It's a deeper dig and my favorite track on this album.
If memory serves me right, the Air Traffic Control transmissions in the middle break are actually recordings taken from the cockpit during one of Gilmour’s training flights
Please react to Steely Dan songs like Doctor Wu, Bad Sneakers, Kid Charlemagne, The Fez, Green Earrings (the list is endless!) the 70's are packed with musical geniuses!
LISTEN TO THE GRATEFUL DEAD! The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. Ranging from quintet to septet, the band is known for its eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, country, bluegrass, blues, gospel, modal jazz, reggae, experimental music, psychedelia, and space rock, for live performances of lengthy instrumental jams, and for their devoted fan base, known as "Deadheads" They are the founders of live jam bands.
"Smoke On The Water" from Live Aid Armenia - don't remember the year. But it's a compilation of all rock legends TOGETHER: Queen (Taylor + May), Pink Floyd (Gilmour), Black Sabbath (Iommi), Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and many more. Awesome version, better than original. And so much pleasure to see them jamming together and having fun. You can do this song, you'll love it 😉
PLEASE listen to On the Turning Away, Cluster One, Poles Apart, Marooned, and High Hopes in this order after this song and you have one of the best playlists of post-Waters Floyd.
Like you, I love "One Slip." "Dogs of War" feels like the kind of song which would have had more bite (heh) if Roger was still with the band. "Sorrow" is good, but weird. The lyrics are almost like spoken-word because they use such a non-standard cadence. Honestly, if you want post-Waters Floyd, Division Bell is where you'll get most of the great songs. "High Hopes," "Wearing the Inside Out," "Keep Talking," "What do You Want from Me?" ""Lost for Words..." So much good stuff specifically addressed TO Roger.
Not sure if it's been mentioned in the thread yet...............the way I heard it, David was into meditation and trying to learn ástral project' and was often meditating. When someone called him and his wife answered, she told them he was 'learning to fly'and would call him back when he done.
To me "Sorrow" is the best song. It's the best environmental ballad ever and what great guitar solos. BTW, Gilmour owns or at least did own an aviation company. He did learn to fly. I keep wondering if he crashed his plane though. If you listen to the lyrics of "Coming Back To Life" he talks about "pondered on this dangerous and irresistible pastime" and that he was "burned and broken" and being "Hurt and helpless".
With many bands that break up you pick side. Did not happen for me with Pink Floyd and Roger Waters. I followed both as basically The Wall and Final Cut was pretty much Roger Waters influenced or even solo written like Final Cut. But after the break up Gilmour Wright and Mason returned more to longer melodies, less dramatic, as from Wish You Were Here and a bit into Animals album. For me the albums after the breakup stands good by itself. The intro Sign of Life has a small feeling of Shine of you crazy Diamond-esqe on it. Great reaction. Like your channel. Will you do old Genesis 1970-1978, Rush and old Supertramp 1973-1980?
Tell me you're stoned without telling me your stoned! Lmao dude with long hair. I hope you listened to the longer version of this song... It's a great trip!

When David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright went into the studio to record "A momentarily lapse of reason" they got a rather angry message of Roger Waters who said that they wouldn't dare to release it as a Pink Floyd album, they didn't have the stuff to pull it off. These days Gilmour states that "AMLOR" sounds dated, they used a bit too much eighties production tricks to make it sound like a proper "Pink Floyd" album. Also the Roger Waters shaped hole in the songs of the album also didn't date all too well.

Great video and a good song. This album is in fact a solo album by David Gilmour. It's much better than the solo album The final cut by Roger Waters. Yes, Pink floyd is on the cover but it's a solo album. Listen to the album: a delicate sound of thunder for the live version. David Gilmour's last two solo albums are great as are his live concerts with a lot of PF songs
I remember the first video for this song - it had things from hang gliding to the space shuttle - I always preferred that version, but it is no where to be found (at least beyond my googlefoo)
I don't remember if it was Rick or Nick Mason that did have a pilots license and they recorded him going through his pre-flight which is what we hear in the middle of this song. For me, the video is a distraction from where the lyric takes you in a darken room with your eyes closed. So well done!

If you’re game for trying something a little different, check out the video for “Love and Anger” by Kate Bush. David Gilmour discovered her back in the mid-70s and helped her get her career started. Over the years he’s lent a hand on guitar here and there, as on her 1989 album “The Sensual World,” from which “Love and Anger”comes. He played guitar on the song and (along with a keyboardist who looks amazingly like Richard Wright) appears in the video.
Check out the live version off of Pulse at some point on your own time. It's beautiful. So much more energy when this song is ripped away from the sterile 80's production.
