- Hey folks! In today’s videos we’ve got a couple Gold Stake Balatro runs. Both of these runs were quite different from each other but relied on unique Jokers to make it through the mid game antes. Enjoy the video!
Balatro is a poker roguelike deck building game centered around creating powerful synergies and winning with big hands. In it, you can combine valid poker hands with unique Jokers in order to create varied synergies and builds. Earn enough chips to beat blinds, including challenging boss blinds, to make it to the next ante and progress your run!

Imagine if one of these days, instead of starting another run or not dying, he just cuts to a black screen for the rest of the video

Not everyone knows this but Castle Joker is determined by your deck, so if you only have one suit it will only ever roll that one suit making it crazy scaling if you get there

Pretty sure he's saying "The Bull", which is a Joker that gives more Chips the more money you have (hence wanting it with Bootstraps)

By we I mean me and all my different personalities
why do you use abandoned deck so much? it doesnt seem that good to me
A smaller deck means your draws are more consistant, so it doesn't matter if you have more "low value" cards on average because now you Can afford to look for a 4 of a kind or straights right from the start (and it only gets easier)
Abandoned deck starts with less cards meaning you see more of the deck with every discard. This allows you to consistently draw more powerful hands such as straights which scale much much faster than most hand types like flushes or two pair. (For reference a Saturn card is worth 30 chips and 2 mult compared to Jupiter's 15 chips and 2 mult, meaning it scales twice as fast.)
Tl;dr removing the face cards means the deck already has deck fixing which means making strong hands is easier than usual.
I actually want a balatro card game now, anyone else think that'd be a good idea?
(Or at the very least a deck inspired my it)
i would LOVE it, i just think it would be very difficult to get across the “soul” and sort of “juice” of the game, especially since a lot of jokers can change the game fundamentally. i’m VERY excited for the physical cards though
Honestly, no.
Itd be like playing mtg with loads and loads of stack triggers every single turn. It'd take 5 minutes to resolve a single hand, and it wouldn't be fun (imo). Changing cards into others (death, DNA, etc.) would also be annoying since you'd need like 50 of each card even if you made enhancements modular.
Maybe there's some scope for jokers with nfc tags baked in, and some kind of board that runs the numbers for you - that'd deal with the first of those problems relatively well, but I can't think (after 30 seconds of thought in fairness) of a nice way to deal with deck manipulation.
That said, some kind of "collectors" version I imagine would get people to throw money at it.
That's kind of what the game Fluxx is. All the rule altering cards like the jokers in Balatro.
