      Mike is all about evolving musically. He himself has said he cant understand bands who are still doing the same style of music 30 years later. And im glad because for me i always enjoyed not knowing exactly what youd get when Mike brought out a new album with whoever he was working with.

      @Ice Hockey is Pretty Pretty Good
      Its perfectly fine to have bands that do the same style of music their whole career. Its also okay to have other bands who like to evolve, change there sound and experiment. I also like some bands who are still doing the same thing 40 years later. Like Depeche Mode. To me they dont really sound much different to their early work and i still absolutely love them. There are also bands i dont listen to anymore because their sound changed into something i didnt like as much as their original sound. I loved Coldplay's first two albums. I really dont like their sound today. They were more downbeat to start with.

    I'm not familiar with Faith No More's material to form a decent opinion, but I have a bootleg of Naked City (John Zorn) with Mike Patton performing with them. I can't think of another singer who would have the chops, imagination, and balls to stand on the stage with those monsters. I never liked his voice on Epic, but I know he's capable of a lot of range, so I imagine I would like at least some of it a lot. I Gave FNM a lot of credit for covering Easy. You'd never expect that one from the Chili Peppers or Pearl Jam.

      His voice was a higher octave in most of The Real Thing but his range changed as they produced more music..he just has a wide vocal range. Helpless shows how deeply he can croon... and that's just one example. Midlife Crisis still has him using the higher pitch but Last Cup of Sorrow, Evidence, Ashes to Ashes etc shows another side.

    • @joechapman8208
      @joechapman8208 3 года назад +20

      Not labelling yourself doesn't mean anything in itself. Patton just delighted in fucking with people he didn't like, and refused to be quiet just to make the maximum amount of money for the label. American rock and hip-hop were extremely homophobic at this time, and it was a big deal because Patton was expressly saying, "If you've got a problem with this, I don't want you listening to my bands". A big reason why this attitude isn't a big deal now is because of artists like him taking that approach when it was a big deal.

    Be Aggressive would've made an excellent instrumental 'cos that song rocked but Patton was playing some weird politically correct power game which resulted in the bitchy removal of Jim Martin and death of the band IMO.

    • @buckemptier
      @buckemptier 2 года назад +2

      Not at all. Martin quit or got kicked out because in production they cut almost all of his solos out of angel dust, as well as a lot of the leads and riffs he had written. And that was just in the pursuit of making a better album. It's was kind kf stupid of Martin because he is all over that album and he sounds great. And they didn't die, their next album was arguably better.
