NEW ZEALAND OR SCOTLANDDDDD?? Check out Alex's amazing video here and show the lad some LOVE: ruclips.net/video/uUGR1ZlJvA0/видео.html Let's quadruple his subs hahaha.
I think Scotland is probably closer to what Tolkien imagined. However I believe that he would also have loved NZ because of its unspoiled nature and fantastic landscape.
The Isle of Skye (Scotland) is possibly the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited! That being said, New Zealand is Middle Earth 1000%! Incredible place. Your video just makes me want to go back …
I can’t agree, unfortunately. Skye is beautiful and rugged, but unfortunately it’s an example of an overgrazed and destroyed landscape. It should be forested but it’s not: almost none left. It’s the result of people cutting it all down (over some 1-3000 years) and sheep as well as deer eating any new tree sprouts. It’s what makes me sad about the UK in general (I’m from Australia but have lived in UK for 7 years now): most of it is gone. I think Tolkien would be sad if he saw what the (sparse) natural areas of the UK in general had become. Idk, maybe it fits the theme of Rohan. Holyrood park does look like somewhere Edoras would be.
If anyone's wondering, the signs are left vague intentionally because tourists keep stealing them and it cost too much money to keep replacing them every year! Also, Aotearoa trumps Scotland any day of the week.
New Zealand IS Middle Earth. This is the top of my bucket list to visit. Definitely need to see these locations in person. Your videos help us to live vicariously through your travels until we get there. The shire location is a must for this Hobbit!
New Zealand definitely gets the nod. Thanks for sharing some of the most beautiful landscapes that they have there. I can only imagine how awesome it would be to live in Queenstown and see those views every day.
I think New Zealand has a greater variety of ecosystems which covers more of the different environments of Middle Earth (Scotland is more uniform in that way).
I live in the UK and love Scotland, but visited NZ back in 2003 at the time of ROTK premier. New Zealand is outstanding, it’s people and the scenery are just amazing. You will love living in Middle Earth for sure!
As an Australian planning to travel to NZ soon to visit some of Middle Earth a Zorpazorp travel guide would be a fantastic resource. Maybe you could find it in your heart to put together a little document, as you seem quite the expert! Also, obviously NEW ZEALAND is the superior Middle Earth. No Question.
Welcome to NZ Lochie and would love to have you and the whanau as New Zealanders. I'm over in Wanaka, so I'll keep my eyes open to see you in person and thank you for the Epic Content!
Niiiiiice dude, We love Wanaka so much, but it's out of budget at the moment. The little Kebab shop does the best chips haha and my girls love the eels!
I was there twenty years ago, accidentally joined a group that toured movie locations. Their guide was very well informed, even carried scene photos and replicas of props with him an acted out certain scenes. It was amazing to be there with that group.
Middle-Earth must be Devon for me. Home of Alan Lee, the amazing ilustrator of Tolkien books. New Zelaland, however, is and always will be the Peter Jackson's Middle-Earth, a Middle-Earth I have enjoyed as much as the writted one.
I grew up near where he lives and you can see the influence Dartmoor had on his interpretations of Middle Earth. His paintings of Mirkwood is literally Wistmans and the Shire looks like it was plucked out of the South Hams. It’s a nice extra connection to have.
I definitely think New Zealand is just breathtaking, and I would love to go there someday! I hope you and your family are going to enjoy it down there:)
New Zealand is just jaw-dropping! It is incredible you are going to be living there! Scotland is beautiful, but New Zealand is Middle Earth. No doubt about it.
does anyone know if there is somewhere on the internet a "fan roadmap" or something than one can follow to see the most possible number of filming locations? even only the coordinates
ZORP - how bloody dodgy is the road out to Mount Sunday. Crossing literal mountain streams, like fording them with no bridge. No wonder the Uruk Hai chose to assault Helm's Deep instead lol
Can't wait to see how you travel/hobby. In the midst of my own move and am having to haul paint and minis to and fro from place to place to stay productive
I do still need to watch the Scotland video, but honestly seeing the comparisons and the environment is breath taking. I’ve always been in city and urban environments so it’s incredible to see what’s beyond.
Fantastic video as always, cannot wait for some more frequent middle earth in middle earth content! I have to stay loyal to Scotland and say it’s a better middle earth but wow New Zealand is stunning!
As someone who lives very close to Scotland and holds alot of love that scenery it has to be New Zealand. Peter Jacksons movies are the closest thing to the images in my head when I was reading those stories as a kid
Love this! New Zealand has to win as the OG Middle Earth of course I'm totally biased as a Kiwi! 😂 I love both of your channels anyway! Looking forward to seeing you at the League final Lachie!
I try and get to Scotland every year for a canoe and wild camp trip, it's incredible up there. But... I've been to New Zealand (Kerosine Creek comment from a while back), toured around with my jaw lolling, it does out-Scotland, Scotland. As a Brit it pains me to say it, but New Zealand is where I'd want to live given a choice, that's why we spent a month there, but circumstances don't allow us to emigrate now. Maybe at least I'll get to visit again at some point, I've not been to the south Island, so even as much as I loved it there, I've another level to get to, it's a goal. Have a great time Zorp!
As beautiful Scotland can be for me it will be always New Zealand. I think I watched the LotR Making of more often than I saw the films and I saw the films A LOT. But when I am crafting there is nothing better to see the love and effort they have put in to let middle earth come to life. And I was lucky enough to had the chance to visit New Zealand once and I hope I can get there again…but till that day comes I love to follow your journey to New Zealand and I am looking forward to more awesome content! Thank you very much for doing it!
As much as I love Scotland I have to say New Zealand wins... Maybe the nostalgia of the films is just to strong, but they really cherry picked some incredible spots for the films. PJ nailed it... can't compete
New Zealand is it for me, most likely because lotr were filmed here but it is also just an amazing location which got amazing terrain, all the mountains and hills makes it perfect
I honeymooned to NZ with a week in Queenstown at the end. Its an incredible place. Managed to find the cliffs Frodo and Sam spied oliphants and various bits of Amon Hen.
Your energy in this video is incomparable and infectious. Can't wait for more. If you ever get involved in Mordheim I'm just gonna say it - I'll get a zorpazorp mordheim themed tattoo
@@Zorpazorp genuine lol. A bearded two headed fish with comet tail in John Blanche style art tattoo awaits! How does that not entice the views! Hope the move to NZ goes well, can't wait to see what happens in the future.
I'd have to give it to NZ for being the better Middle Earth! It is forever solidified in my mind in Peter's beautiful films! Great vid as always, Lachie!
Having been over to New Zealand twice now including living there for six months, and being in the throws of planning on a third trip with my young family, it'll come as no surprise for me to say that hands down New Zealand Is Middle Earth!
New Zealand! Lets get them together camping in the wild, playing with plastic crack while replaying scenes from the movie and spuwing out all the LotR one-liners :D!
New Zealand I think takes the cup. Parts of Scotland make for nice (perhaps damper) places in Middle-Earth, New Zealand has so much more differing land forms and environments than Scotland which of course doesn't really have space for mountain ranges.
I've always thought Scotland would make the best Fangorn or especially Old Forest, but overall its got to be NZ. I now have a new tourist stop thanks to you, Lachie! Haha love your enthusiasm in this.
From scrubbing through the other video quickly, I think New Zealand has a lot of subtle differences that make it better. Sure, Scotland has the grassy rolling hills, but New Zealand has more of that jutting, crumbly basalt and drier bunch grasses. Scotland just doesn't match the movie. Thanks for showing this, it was cool to learn the film tricks.
Scotland has to be the best for the rolling hills and scrubland but New Zealand just has my heart with its beautiful scenery, film locations and those stunning mountains. I still haven't made it to NZ yet tho...Still, for a humble Hobbit such as me, I'll settle for second breakfast!
Although I'm from the UK I have to say New Zealand makes a better Middle Earth. Plus I'd love to see you n Alex together on an adventure. Take care Dave
You know it's got to be New Zealand. Though having been to both, I've got to say, staring out into the North Sea from Scotland had very First Age vibes.
Ah mate New Zealand all the way. And you’re absolutely right, the pictures just don’t convey the incredible beauty of the place. If anyone ever gets the chance, it’s an absolute must to visit.
I think New Zealand is Rohan and Gondor. For me there is no better substitute. Along with the shire. Now Scotland on the other hand, definitely viable for middle earth as well. I think it could absolutely work for Fanghorn and many other beautiful scenes as LOTR is known for. Both places are equally beautiful and stunning!
New Zealand definitely makes a better gondor at the very least, the rocky outcrops and mountains are definitely better suited to a place literally called "the land of stone"
As beautiful and amazing Scotland is, it is still merely of this earth! I've never seen New Zealand with my own eyes, but I'll be happy with a battle force as pity prize :)
The New Zealand vs Scotland debate is a difficult one. As a Scot myself I am subject to bias but I believe that New Zealand has amazing sites and shots but all look fairly similar. I feel like middle earth could have been made to feel more like an expansive continent with the use of both locations. Giving the feel of vastly different environments as the fellowship travels across middle earth.
NZ captivated the imagination of the world, it was the perfect location. Europe and Scotland have a very distinctive appearance that is evocative of traditional medieval settings, and would not have made LOTR appear as distinctive as it does in NZ.

They're both incredibly beautiful

I think Scotland is probably closer to what Tolkien imagined. However I believe that he would also have loved NZ because of its unspoiled nature and fantastic landscape.
Any country that has vast untouched lanscape would do however if they did it the weather would destroy the sets I should know I live there
I would actually say Wales
I lived in Scotland and I would say no
Scotland is no where near as good looking
ironically Tolkien was born in the southern hemisphere in South Africa

New Zealand always, spent a few months there in 2005, and visited a lot of the film locations. Love it!
Still a fantastically made movie, nothing can compete with it, amazing locations all real and amazingly edited and fit together.

Glad you enjoyed it buddy, it's so damn stunninggggggggggg

New Zealand.

New Zealand! I love Alex and want to see him in NZ.
