Strange seeing the S36 option. Back in the day I worked on S34 which was a neat system. Thanks again Mathew. Really good playlist. Off to set up your mainframe one now

As someone who has worked with os/400 at IBM back in the day I fully agree with your opinion about the os name change 😂

This is a great tutorial! When my drives arrive this is first on my list before I install Linux. Funny enough I have an HMC which I get with the server which should make the initial console connection even easier. Now all IBM needs to do is allow hobbyist licenses like OpenVMS has so don't have to wipe everything every 71 days. They are really strangling the platform by not having a program like this imo.

IBM REALLY needs to have something like a hobbyist licence & an emulator to go along with IBM i.
Also, are you planning on doing a full IBM i tour sometime?

It certainly would be nice to have an easier way to play with IBM i than having to get your own POWER server -- and a nice legal way to not have to live in the 70-day club. I don't see it happening anytime soon, though...
I don't have any particular plans to do a general tour video, but I do have a few videos about IBM i on the channel already -- its prompting capability at the command line, the pervasive nature of the database, and screen definition.

Those udf file uploads were all exactly 11.6MB/sec. I wonder if the virtual NIC was connected at 100Mbps instead of gigabit.

Hi, there is no possibility to use image catalog when install licpgm ?
    Btw very good video !!
    Thanks

Not that I'm aware of during the initial installation. You could perhaps install just enough to get TCP/IP and FTP server up and running from the DVDs, then you would have a way to upload the ISO images to the system to make an image catalog, then install the rest of the licpgms you want from the image catalog, but I've never tried to break it out into multiple steps like that.

Hi I got one power 6 8203 I’m trying to set up the LAN console but when I try to do 25+26 in the panel control for get 65 and then 21 I don’t get the 65 just 64!
Do you know why 64 and not 65? I need 65
    Thanks to all

I'm not sure about POWER6 systems; my only experience is with POWER7 and POWER8 systems. When I do a 25+26, it does indeed make the 65 option available.
That said, I've spent many hours over many days trying to get the LAN console configured for installing IBM i on the bare metal on my POWER7, and no matter what I do or what instructions I follow, it just never gets an IP address. I always give up and end up running under PowerVM again.

      @@MatthewMainframes Hi 9 years ago I worked with a Power 720 8202 and I did all configuration by Lan Console I installed V7R1 or V7R2 .
Someone told me that maybe my power 6 is just for running AIX but I'm not sure about this
