    Your tutorials are always great! I work at a large insurance company that runs both System Z and Power systems, and they have always peaked my interest. I love labbing at home, and both you and Moshix are great resources! I'd love to get into IBM i, maybe I'll get my own Power server and try this out!

    This explains alot. I guess if I want to run VIOS I need to register my machine on IBMs website. New I just need to figure out how add my system as it seems like they want a customer number for everything. Gentoo running on BTRFS software raid is nice, it would be nice to give VIOS / AIX a spin.

      If you use the IBM ESS mobile app, and look up your machine by type and serial number, one of the pages will end up showing you the customer number that is associated with the machine.

    as someone only used xen/kvm on linux, this look very familiarly, but i'm not sure why is install disk 4G. on linux this is just 10 pkgs from repo installed by one command.

      The VIOS install disk is pretty much a complete AIX install disk, they've just added the extra VIOS and IVM software to it. And yeah, you just add a few packages to Linux to get the Xen or KVM management tools, but keep in mind you still had to install the Linux distribution you're using first.

    39:37 hello. I am able to install VIOs, but not able to browse the IVM ip .
    I did not set the nsrvadrr.
    Is it required a eth cable at the PCI slot ?

    So did you actually have to buy any licenses to use your server in this video?

    • @MatthewMainframes
      @MatthewMainframes  10 месяцев назад

      No, the PowerVM license is permanently installed into the server's firmware, and I believe the VIOS entitlement travels with that (putting the machine's serial number into IBM's web site granted me access to download the editions of VIOS the server was licensed for). I do not have IBM i licenses, though, those are harder to get out of IBM even if the machine was licensed for it [and often the license may have been tied to the now-expired lease, or customers traded in the license for a discount when moving to new hardware, etc.], so when you install IBM i you just get the built-in 70-day "trial" license.

    Hi, I am US citizen and I've 12 yrs exp as certified AIX admin and RHCE Linux admin, from 2007 to 2019.
    However for the past 4 yrs I've not worked and tried some inventions to save nature which didn't work out.
    Now trying to come back to find a job. But unable to crack interviews since lost touch for 4 yrs. I can do the job since work is open book. But interviews became a nightmare for me. Can't recall quickly even those things I've done 1000 times in time to answer in interview. I'm certified in AIX and RHCE.
    I am tired of this and willing to work in any position in any country. Even a junior position in Syria or Afghanistan. Any country but North Korea, that's where I draw a line. If you know of any position please let me know. Thank you. Srinivas
