[MAME] Pac-Eight

So the Japanese medal game Pac-Eight is supported in MAME. I decided to try checking it out!
It is pretty similar to Pac-Slot, except it has the chance of winning via vertical matching reels and some new "events". Including Digdug cameos!

Kinda strange they went with a very girly-sounding voice, it's like the total opposite of Hanna-Barbera's Pac-Man cartoon.

@@cabbusses It likely due to Japan mascots have more of a cutesy feeling while in the US they have a more serious/mature feeling, and company gives these character voices that would feel more fitting to their region. An example of this is Block Man from MM11.

Andrew Ambrose MAME lists it as 1996. I assume that would be based on the copyright infoonthe cabinet. I will take their word for it.
(It is lo-spec for a 1996 machine, but it is likely that is just how early medal games were.)

Similar to ticket redemption arcade games in the west, except more explicitly trying to instill children with gambling culture, more or less. This Pac-Eight, for example, is for all purposes an actual slot machine, except it gives out "Medals" which don't have a defined retail value.
