He may have been easily the worst Party Member (though that's only really because in a Game with no BAD Party Members, someone had to be), but Jesus, Rab's flashback Desperate attacked me in the feels.
I love that this song is not exactly sad, it's soothing to the soul. Like a gentle breeze in a peaceful morning. This makes the scenes all the more bittersweet.
Maaan, the moment Rab realizes that he is inside an illusion, a perfect dream that he has to give up in order to fulfill his duty to save the world, and at the same time he admits that he could stay there forever, that really made me shed a tear ;( It reminded me to one episode of The Justice League, where Superman is trapped inside an illusion that consists on living in his perfect world where he has a wife, a son and his parents, but like in Rab's story, Superman realizes of the illusion and chooses to follow his duty and give up on the illusion, but not before saying good bye to his son with tears in his eyes and saying to him that he promises he will never forget ;(
Spoilers for when you get to about the midway point of the game Whilst Searching around for where to go you will eventually encounter Sylvando and his soldiers of smile, they will help during a portion of the game where a greedy monster has taken away every one's prized possessions, and the cutscenes afterward show on the boy who went with you to find his mother's necklace, and tries to give it back to his father. Where He Starts crying at the idea that his son could have died. And then goes on to explain how the Father didn't believe the monster and Told it a Lie to protect his son. And both start to cry. I did as well. Afterwards Sylvando is shown to have Went to the cliff that overlooks that mural from earlier in the story, this is when He tells Eleven that he needs to find a safe place for his soldiers of smile. And that safe place also happens to be where his papa lives. In Puerto Valor, Eleven and Hendrick go ahead to talk with him. But Eleven then needs to find Sylvando as he needed a moment to process seeing his Papi again. He then goes off saying that he is more than willing to risk his Neck against The Lord of Shadows, and yet going back to ask his papa for help terrifies him. And when they do meet each other again. Sylvando instinctively says Sorry as soon as he gets questioned for returning to the mansion. Barring some old age threats, Sylvando thanks his father for being more than understanding before some more Sylvando hijinks ocour. And in both situations where the father is reunited with their son, this song is playing. Whilst the 1st one is there to put the player at ease because you reunited a family. The Second is melancholy because just because Don Rodrigo is agreeing to look after his friends. Doesn't mean that these two are just going to let bygones be bygones, but instead of hatred, Don Rodrigo has somewhat mellowed out to be just a little bit bitter at his Son, Norberto. And after this the plot continues. I cried a lot when I went through this portion of the game. I... Never Really had a stable relationship with my own dad. The two of us just were not bad people, we were just different people. One is a Very serious Dad that is trying his best to make sure his Son can live a healthy life, Even if that comes with the drawback of destroying his own body and overall lack of Emotional understanding, I wouldn't call him bad. Just... Someone who is socially smart but is Naive when it comes to empathy and emotion in general. And his Son, Me, is basically the opposite. I'm very optimistic about just about everything, I get told I am a very friendly kind of guy, if a bit of an airhead and currently I just need to rely on the rest of my family to help me get a good future. I think the reason me and my father are Similar physically yet different mentally, is because my father never had the luxury of where he is now. Thankfully him and my Grandpa are much more willing to understand each other now, and myself to him back. We both understand each other on Why we are who we are are because I felt the need to tell him what I felt about him. We are able to joke around a little bit now, so I guess waiting until you feel ready to tell someone what you felt about them or your situation isn't all bad. This whole portion is something I can relate too well to. There's nothing fantasy about it. It's about something that happens all too often. A misunderstanding causing would be loved ones to drift apart until it is brought up at a later date. Some are just so stubborn that they never even tell those close to them feel. But Me and Sylvando had the support of others to get the confidence we needed to tell the person who unintentionally hurt us how we feel. And whilst writing this I cried a lot again, but that's okay. Emotional of all kinds must be expressed in order for a person to feel like themselves. Happiness, Sadness, Anger, and Fear, they are what makes Humans, intelligent. We are born with the ability to give others of our species the strange ability to be a stronger version of ourselves just because they feel attachment for another human. This really brought out the philosopher in me didn't it. But I'm going to say thank you, because you sat through this ginormous wall of text. You can be strong no matter who you are. Because other people thinking you can do something good is more than enough for some people to go above and beyond. I hope you have a great day or night. Bye bye.
I recently just beat the game. What a game this was, it was entirely worth it. This theme stands out to me as well; at the part where you're to return the Sword of Light, I did a Party Talk, and Serena brought up that we'll have many more adventures sometime later. I'm not afraid to admit-- that got me emotional. I grew incredibly attached to all these characters. Not only that, it reminded me of me and my friend group. We're all busy with life, growing up and all.. but I frequently reminisce on how it was back when we were young, fresh out of graduating high school. This game never fails to make me emotional. What a work of art.
Serena... When you cried for your twin sister, and you cut down your hair and let it fly into the sky, you remembered a princess, that just like you did the same as a sign of change for being strong and couragous than never being before. And you guys must know which other square enix game i am referring to, dont you?
The scene in the beginning when Rab and Jade reveal their true identities, and do that ritual for the lost souls had such an impact on me. Up to that point the story felt very trope-y and by the numbers, but this scene just felt so impactful, Rab mourning his children, but at the same time feeling such a bittersweet hope for the future, and Jade being so protective of both The Luminary and Rab, it's just a beautiful scene, and whenever I hear this it takes me back to that.
Yeah. The first bits where you meet Rab and Jade is where I started to love the game. My favorite DQ game and that's saying a lot for me because I think the entire series is pretty fantastic.

The Jade we knew from Chapter 1 was so determined, and so protective of the people she saw as family, making it her mission to protect The Luminary at all costs. She threw herself off a cliff to save his life, she would go to the ends of the earth to protect him. During chapter 2, I would have had Jade still looking for The Luminary, not just walking to the closest town, giving up and having her just be like "ooh, shiny tournament arc, oh no, there goes my clothes lol." The game has great moments, but parts of Chapter 2 and especially Chapter 3 sorta feels like it loses the script after a while.

It’s been five days since I and everyone else around the world, have learned about the passing of Akira Toriyama on March 1st 2024. Even now, I’m in a state of shock, disbelief, sadness, reflection, and oddly enough happiness. Because we have taken the time to truly appreciate what he has done for not just anime, manga, and gaming, but pop culture as a whole. Without him, anime and manga wouldn’t have become the global phenomenon we see now. Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger wouldn’t have become smash hits around the world without his signature art style shining through on all the characters. Many mangakas in Japan were inspired by Toriyama-San to create awe inspiring stories and worlds filled with unique and memorable characters, mangas like Naruto and One Piece to name a few. Everywhere people are mourning in their own way, from the casual anime fan, to other fandoms, mainstream news, every major journalist publication, Sports teams and their fans, and even world leaders and most of Central and South America. The last time the death of such a major figure in pop culture had this much of an outpouring, of sympathy and mourning to my recollection was when Stan Lee died back in 2018. When I hear this song and songs like this, it makes me happy and sad at the same time, because it makes me remember those who we admired and were close to that are no longer with us. I cry every time I listen to it, and if it were me, I would have this play at my funeral.
Me too!! I think it’s my favorite dragon quest, and I’ve played ‘‘em all except four for some reason! And I played three when I was really young so I don’t remember much but it can’t be better than 11. But I also loved 6 and people didn’t like that one for some reason! 6-9 + 11 are so good. I really hope we get do 12 soon. And I hope it’ll be as good as dq11 was. That game was just so good

@@jackofalltrades123 He was extremely annoying with copyright issues and pretty much a Japanese boomer that didn't recognized Japan's warcrimes But what made most people hate him was Koichi not supporting LGBTQI+ discussions on schools (and he wasn't even wrong honestly) he never mentioned that actually hated gay people or anything (I doubt a homophobic would work in a game with Sylvando lol too lol ) But wikipedia made it even worse by literally tagging him as homophobic too and people just started to believe this He wasn't a great person because of some other shit but honestly he was just a flawed man that struggled with adapting to the new times and wanted people to only consume music with Vynil and Orchestras
To be honest, I felt that Sugiyama had aged and his songs on DQXI didn't have the vitality they used to. However, I believe that this song is one of the most beautiful masterpieces of his life.
