I agree! In the west this is a highly underrated game that should have been released for the SNES, or for the PS2. However the game (and the DQ series) is hugely popular in Japan and for good reason! Dragon Quest VII is also underrated in my opinion even though it was released in North America and Europe. The story and scenarios are very good as the game progresses. I find the plight of each location (frozen in its darkest hour) and saving its people from disaster and confronting evil to be very satisfying. Plus it featured another excellent Sugiyama soundtrack/score with a top-tier boss battle and other themes.

You’ll love friars determination from DQ8 and also Earth Wind and Fire’s after the love has gone. The chords there are quite similar but not too similar to each other. This is the good music! Oh yeah and how could I forget about the Chosen Ones song... Edrick’s Song! That one is great. It was used for the trailer for the heroes from DQ for Super SmUsh. 👍🏽
And Noble Requiem is the saddest... It’s ridiculously effective when played during the interludes between generations. I always think of that scene where you sit as a statue watching the seasons change for EIGHT years, helpless to do anything about it.
For me, that coda (only used in Symphonic Suite performances) to “Almighty Boss Devil...” at 40:18 should have been used in the PS2 remake at the end of boss battles. It would’ve enhanced the emotional punch of several story critical fights, and more seamlessly transitioned into Noble Requiem for the inter-generational segments.
This symphonic soundtrack is awesome 🇯🇵 The game has something so mystic like Final Fantasy V. For me they are the very true DQ and FF episodes of each series ⚔️

2:01 is the orchestrated version of the Mini Medal All girl school from Dragon Quest XI as well. 😃 28:58 I recognize from DQBuilders 2 the farm village in Furrow Field. 30:04 something strange is afoot. 31:17 is also on DQ11 Havens Above in Drustan’s Realm. 32:29 is also the music in DQXI for destroyed Cobblestone. 34:59 battle music. 38:29 Boss! 45:07 Havens Above Drustans trials inside the Temple. I haven’t played this game but those are the recognizable pieces from other games I have heard.

Man this game definitely got its fair share of problems, but the adventure was so fun and it made me remember what I loved about games.
My only real problems are how hard the first gen is, and the monster catching rng

I'm here after watching the dragon quest your story movie!! Best movie ever in my life altho I never played the game
元音源の再現を忠実に完璧に表現出来ている素晴らしい交響楽団ですね。ドラゴンクエスト5のサウンドはスーパーファミコンになり感動の音質になりました。序曲なんかはゲームスイッチ入れて何もせずに流しっぱなしにしてみたりして、結局音源が欲しくなって私が初めて購入したオーケストラのCDとなりました。実話。
そして、
こんなに強い父親でもやばそうな魔物に襲われて子供を庇いながらだと死んでしまうんだ。え、でも父親殺した魔物たちも仲間に出来るの⁇とか。中ボスで出てきたトラが、あの時遊んでたパンサーやん、こいつ殺さなきゃいけないの？とか、結婚ってしなきゃいけないんだーへぇーとか。ここまできてこの2人石像になったらもう世界滅ぶな。とか色々な心を駆け巡らせてくれた最高峰のゲームシナリオです。
なによりも息子や娘が強くなってくれてとても心強い。
プレイヤーを森羅万象の世界に引きずりこんでくれるドラゴンクエストでもっとも感動した作品。

The last games borrowed a lot from the old music, this was so sweet to hear while playing DQXI and others, pure magic!
