You are not the only one. I think Skyrim is one of the most beautiful game I have ever seen. Even after all these years I just have to pause and look at how beautiful the world is.
07:27 honestly could not disagree more, if skyrim was first person only or god forbid TES VI, a lot of people (including myself) would be very upset, a lackluster 3rd person mode is WAY better than having none at all Edit: this doesn't mean I dislike 1st person, I much prefer it actually, I just want the *option* to switch between the two, outside of combat I like to look at my armor, and my character walk and blend into the environment
I've always enjoyed 3rd person games, Gothic / Risen, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Jedi Knight, GTA, Mount and Blade, Dungeon Siege, AC series ... The only times I'd use 1st person for an Elder Scrolls game is to have a closer look at something in the world. I want to see my character doing things and have a sense of space (what actor is where), especially during combat.
with the amount of customization there is and focus on making a living, breathing character in the world of Skyrim, as limited as it is I'm glad I have a 3rd person mode to at least check out my character. I catch myself doing it a lot actually. There are no working mirrors in Skyrim, so you'd only really see yourself during certain interactive actions, or if were being strict on no 3rd-person then never again after character creation
The only tes games ive played 1 person were arena, daggerfall, and battlespire. Morrowind ive played a mix of both, and oblivion i leaned more towards 1st person. Skyrim i stayed 3rd person the entire time, and had no issues with.
No worries, look at how much effort they put into improving 3rd person from Oblivion to Skyrim, it was a big priority. Also Witcher 3 sold even more copies than Skyrim, and it is a 3rd person game. The chance of them removing 3rd person mode is zero.
The reason for the Map having some extra lines it is because the map it is not a map, is a cámara super far away of the game (of course this camera activates a lower poly version of the meshes). You can prove this if you are absorbing a soul of a dragon and meanwhile you open your map.
the third person view is almost exclusively how I play Skyrim. First person games have always made me dizzy or given me motion sickness to play or watch, so having the option for a game of this type where I could actually play it was one of the deciding factors on my initial purchase in 2011. Even if it's janky, I'll take it over first person anyday haha

The point about mods breaking is a very pertinent one. When I was starting to get the urge to maybe attempt another Skyrim deep dive, maybe see if I could get MXO and other mods that drastically change the combo flow and such up, that's when the big update they did last hit, with a bugfix patch about a week later. Mod scene was in chaos, and a few modders also jumped ship or threw drama tantrums during that point as well, which hasn't really helped any desire to triple check the current state of some of those advanced plugins that aren't just fixed with a version number. With games like Oblivion and New Vegas, the support cycle's long over and it's less unpredictable. Of course, I don't think anyone was expecting patches 11 years after Skyrim's release either so...
Blocking is not pointless. I consistently abuse shield and block bashing to get through legendary difficulty. As for dodging all you have to do is bait the enemy’s attack and step back. Once they finish the swing you can usually get about 1-2 hits in before reading the next attack and walking backwards again. Or you can bash them and skip their turn.

On top of that, melee feels mediocre with it (absolute average, its just there while not being unlocked - you cant change direction while not turning the camera at the same time unless you use mods like shown in the video), but anything ranged was an absolute nightmare due to no locking system and overall targetting cursor misplacement (especially on my caster playthrough, needed to always remember that Im targetting about 2mm above the cursor in the vanilla). I have spent a fair amount of time trying to make Skyrim feel more like Morrowind, with the music, font, attributes, racial powers, and birth signs. Some mods also make the world a lot less leveled (though it's already much less leveled than Oblivion). Hit chance combat is probably not possible in Skyrim, at least not in a playable form. I know lots of people hate it, but as a DnD fan it really doesn't bother me. Something I do like is that Skyrim's various DLC like Hearthfire and Fishing are bringing back the old life simulation aspects of Arena and Daggerfall. A banking system and horse carriages for loot would go a long way towards giving the series a feeling of returning to its roots!
If playing through Steam, making a copy of the game's directory and using that for your modded install means you can play it without having the game auto-update from under your feet. That way, your mods don't just suddenly break, because updating the base game will now be an active decision you have to make. Also worth noting: MO2 makes modding, and tweaking of mods, a breeze.
The problem with Skyrim graphics is not that they don’t have the man power. It’s that they had to release a game that was compatible with consoles. At release the most powerful console had 0.5GB of RAM.
at this point im just convinced that AAA corporate studios just make modding passive aggressively impossible so they can strategically reign in their communities ability to create their own DLC content
For the pointless fucking updates Bethesda keeps releasing for Skyrim, you can manually stop Steam from updating the game permanently. And most mods now work for the same specific version of Skyrim SE, so you can just revert your game back to a previous version/update using a patcher. Doing this is highly recommended and will save you a lot of heartache in the future with modding.
Honestly, Bethesda would do us all a service by just leaving Skyrim alone by now, it is rare that players would want the developer to forget about their games, but this is one of those cases
To combat the constant updates breaking my mod lists, on my last mod list, I used the downgrade patcher when modding. I update to AE and download all the content then use the downgrade patcher and it well patches the game to Pre-AE version all while you having the ability to still use the AE content. Is it more of a pain in the ass to do yes, and you also gotta find that specific SKSE Version for that game version too. But you get access to more mods.
Also the experience mod updated like a week after this video came out, I'm also using it rn and it's really nice! Makes questing and new lands mods really great to use since I'm not leveling up as quickly
Gotta disagree with ENB. It all depends on the ENB itself. Some enb with change the weather, lighting, coloring, Edge Smoothing etc. Which can and will completely change the way the game looks.
i don't understand why he keep saying that blocking isn't important, dude play that game at "legendary" mode (is the only way) you will see how important is to block lol
God, all those mods that require DAR are so appealing. I don’t have the patience to revert my game version just to do it, though, as I’d have to redo every other mod too..
Watching people play with smoothcam cranked up to max with the camera barely following the character actually scares me man. Shit literally flies everywhere constantly. I don't know how people think that this is what a 'modern' action rpg camera is like. It makes the game borderline unplayable. I genuinely wonder if the people who use the mod have actually played a proper third person rpg in the past decade, because this is not how intelligently designed cameras function. Watching the camera in this video made me nauseous at times. EDIT: When you talk about replacing animations, I assume you are talking about FNIS, which is indeed developed by I believe one person. Fortunately we now have Nemesis, a less scuffed version which is also open source.
The priority of an elder scrolls games's camera and conbat is immersion. I would never secrifice the immersion of a first person rpg for "better combat" and people don't play elder scrolls games for the combat it has more of a thing you do rather than a main feature it's more immersive than something that you should be focusing on, if i had to focus on combat in an elder scrolls game it would take away from the game and nor add to the experience.
I just...ugh. It's sad when people outside the modding community do these types of videos because they spend the entire video comparing Skyrim to other games and passing judgment on the game's base systems and mechanics that they took five seconds to "fix" by downloading someone else's file.
the jokes in this like the oblivion joke and the dick grayson joke are honestly what secured my sub 😂 plus this content is amazing, i love how you're explaining yourself along the way!!
I've never once modded Skyrim and I've enjoyed hundreds of hours just enjoying the world. All the complaints people usually have, don't bother me in the slightest.
You lost me at the "ENB won't make the game look better because the devs already made it as good looking as it can be". Uhhhhhhh, yyyeahhhh. I mean, just the ENB won't do much, but with the presets made by the modders... that's an entirely different story. I get it that there's a lot of you people that likes the graphics of Vanilla skyrim, and honestly, I don't know why except the mentality of "I don't like change". ENB alone without help of any retexture mods can change the feel of the world from gloomy to nigh realistic.
pausing at about 7:35 to add my Two Cents to the "why even third-person?" topic...i feel like Bethesda DEFINITELY intended for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim to be played pretty much Exclusively in first-person...they only Included the third-person camera because of all the weapons/armor that youd probly want to see, On your character, but the one theyve included is really only good for still shots...my main Evidence for this claim is how butt-ugly all the third-person Animations look (such as "running straight", even though youre moving Diagonally)...i mean, Skyrim at least TRIES to polish them up, especially at Crafting spots (Forges, Alchemy Labs, Enchantment Tables, Leather-Tanning Racks, etc), but even it-- the LATEST in the series-- has the "immediate Jump" look; no in-between frames for your character to Transition from standing/walking/running into a jump, instead its just the Binary Response of "is the character jumping? (if Yes, then) load MidAir_anim"...and i point out that Skyrim also has this 'quirk' with third-person jumping, because that shows that Bethesda has absolutely no intentions of fixing it-- they didnt fix it from Morrowind when they made Oblivion, they didnt fix it from Oblivion when they made Skyrim, they didnt fix it with Skyrim when they made Skyrim(again), theyre not going to fix it despite the literally-limitless opportunity to push an update to an 11-year-old game...thus, i think that Bethesda *intends* for the game to be played 100% in first-person, with the third-person Option merely being an "okay, Fine" sort of reluctant inclusion... (EDIT): yep, shouldve just let it keep playing-- 7:45 showing off "True Directional Movement" literally addresses the exact problem im talking about...nevermind then...
Have to disagree with you on your take of the skyrim 3rd person camera. if you know how to manipulate the camera you can bring it all the way back to where it's actually like a top down CRPG if you wanted it to be. it's the most customizable 3rd person camera ever. on controller you have to hold down the right stick and the left bumper and pull back on the stick and you can move it in-and-out
Downgrading Skyrim to 1.5.97 is probably the best decision one who plays Skyrim can do. As Anniversary really doesn't do anything dramatic enough to justify losing out on the thousands of good mods that aren't updated, or won't update.
I'm playing skyrim rn and trying to do a similar thing, and wildcat is a godsend. I spend one minute fighting a regular enemy because both our health bars were so huge and we did no damage, so I upped my damage to 2x and enemies to 3.5, really made the game feel great.
You’re 100% wrong about Bethesda RPGs being third person - the fact that you can freely switch between perspectives is one of its biggest strengths and draws to the game.
Personally I like the texture and lighting mods that make the characters look like painted in textures. I love the anatomy of races, with the painting textures is tops. True directional movement and smooth cam are the greatest gift to skyrim

Something I do like is that Skyrim's various DLC like Hearthfire and Fishing are bringing back the old life simulation aspects of Arena and Daggerfall. A banking system and horse carriages for loot would go a long way towards giving the series a feeling of returning to its roots!
I love your videos, man, they're so good. Congratulations from Spain
This show how much a good comic book style rpg could be great. I really like the whole setup
Was that Micky D ordering pizza?
yes lmao
Crossover when?!
I'm so glad to see my irl friend's mod in this video, Kanj (not his real name obviously) is a good friend of mine and i sometimes give him mod ideas.
I played Oblivion and Skyrim on console for years, so mods are a newer thing for me and I still barely run any. Thank you for posting the list
Enbs can also inject new shader systems into your game, not just tweak existing shaders. For example, texture parallaxing.
It doesn't actually add parallax to Skyrim since it's already capable of it, just for whatever reason it doesn't use it.
Your understanding of ENB and what it does couldn't be more wrong
This made me wipe all my mods and attempt turning Skyrim into an 80's cartoon
me: "I don't see an issue with skyrim's combat system"
also me: archery 100 stealth 100 illusion 100
My first Skyrim playthrough I played primarily in 3rd person and loved it
Also the experience mod updated like a week after this video came out, I'm also using it rn and it's really nice! Makes questing and new lands mods really great to use since I'm not leveling up as quickly
There are so many ways to fix your issues, you could have probably read the mod pages and looked for patches and you would have a much better time
Personally I preferred the combat from Oblivion to Skyrim’s.
The majority of oblivion was better than Skyrim

bro just turned skyrim into borderlands 2
Dick Grayson before his parents were murdered?ouch
Gotta disagree with ENB. It all depends on the ENB itself.
Some enb with change the weather, lighting, coloring, Edge Smoothing etc. Which can and will completely change the way the game looks.
I know that im abit late but Dragonborn Voice Over + Alternate Conversation Camera for that true convo experiance
“Crashes into Oblivion” I see what you did
Sheen this is 7th time this cycle you have turned skyrim into a different game
i don't understand why he keep saying that blocking isn't important, dude play that game at "legendary" mode (is the only way) you will see how important is to block lol
If you truly want to mod Skyrim's combat downgrading to an older version is pretty much required at the moment.
Always funny to me how another mod has to be installed to fix a problem from a previous, while causing more problems
Fortunately we now have Nemesis, a less scuffed version which is also open source.
dynamic animation replacer was the one I was referring to in that case
The priority of an elder scrolls games's camera and conbat is immersion. I would never secrifice the immersion of a first person rpg for "better combat" and people don't play elder scrolls games for the combat it has more of a thing you do rather than a main feature it's more immersive than something that you should be focusing on, if i had to focus on combat in an elder scrolls game it would take away from the game and nor add to the experience.
You're one of my favourite youtubers. Keep making the best elder scrolls content there is out here!
Finally, I can make Skyrim into a Shoddycast video🙏
I just...ugh. It's sad when people outside the modding community do these types of videos because they spend the entire video comparing Skyrim to other games and passing judgment on the game's base systems and mechanics that they took five seconds to "fix" by downloading someone else's file.
Wow, Mason... Really nice editing! I like it. Hope, I can make it to a stream of yours again soon. Has been a long time.
Dude there are people with 500+ mods, a game modded like yours is hardly considered Vanilla+
I generally prefer to consider the quality of the mods rather than the quantity
7:30 the point of 3rd person is completely lost on you if you think it should only affect combat.
the jokes in this like the oblivion joke and the dick grayson joke are honestly what secured my sub 😂 plus this content is amazing, i love how you're explaining yourself along the way!!
I guess Enderal answers the question.
“The art style/graphics is terrible!” *proceeds to make the game look like shit*
By Azura, by Azura, by Azura! It's cantina he’s back
pausing at about 7:35 to add my Two Cents to the "why even third-person?" topic...i feel like Bethesda DEFINITELY intended for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim to be played pretty much Exclusively in first-person...they only Included the third-person camera because of all the weapons/armor that youd probly want to see, On your character, but the one theyve included is really only good for still shots...my main Evidence for this claim is how butt-ugly all the third-person Animations look (such as "running straight", even though youre moving Diagonally)...i mean, Skyrim at least TRIES to polish them up, especially at Crafting spots (Forges, Alchemy Labs, Enchantment Tables, Leather-Tanning Racks, etc), but even it-- the LATEST in the series-- has the "immediate Jump" look; no in-between frames for your character to Transition from standing/walking/running into a jump, instead its just the Binary Response of "is the character jumping?
I love the style of Borderlands and cel-shaded games and actually modedd New Vegas to look like it
11:17 I can hear the shots being fired at DAR and felinsky XD
Have to disagree with you on your take of the skyrim 3rd person camera. if you know how to manipulate the camera you can bring it all the way back to where it's actually like a top down CRPG if you wanted it to be. it's the most customizable 3rd person camera ever. on controller you have to hold down the right stick and the left bumper and pull back on the stick and you can move it in-and-out
modder's skyrim is the modern jason's ship conundrum
Downgrading Skyrim to 1.5.97 is probably the best decision one who plays Skyrim can do. As Anniversary really doesn't do anything dramatic enough to justify losing out on the thousands of good mods that aren't updated, or won't update.
Graphics card: "Processor it's your turn now....."
Processor: "huf... huf... huf." 🏃🏃
"Skyrim is ugly" *proceeds to make Skyrim look abhorrent*
I'm playing skyrim rn and trying to do a similar thing, and wildcat is a godsend. I spend one minute fighting a regular enemy because both our health bars were so huge and we did no damage, so I upped my damage to 2x and enemies to 3.5, really made the game feel great.
You’re 100% wrong about Bethesda RPGs being third person - the fact that you can freely switch between perspectives is one of its biggest strengths and draws to the game.
"i don't like this mod, but..."
He literally said that for every mod used
"before it crashes to oblivion..." Hah i see what ya did there.
Personally I like the texture and lighting mods that make the characters look like painted in textures. I love the anatomy of races, with the painting textures is tops. True directional movement and smooth cam are the greatest gift to skyrim
It's been a month and the goat is finally back
Honestly, I like how Skyrim looks. I think Oblivion looks more charming, but I still like Skyrim.
