Thanks John. Great video. Not sure you'll get this, but my questions are: do you also apply sealer/sealant to the engine surface also? Or is sealer/sealant sufficient on the pump and both sides of the gasket alone? Also, does the grey sealant absolutely need to cure for 24 hours? I realize you were using an anaerobic sealant vs. the grey silicone stuff, as it appeared you were tightening the (12) bolts down immediately. The instructions for the grey sealer says "finger tighten and let cure for one hour before tightening the bolts." I followed those instructions and after all that labor it's still leaking. It was a deflating, to say the least. Last question, is a gasket absolutely necessary? You mentioned (at least I thought I heard you say it) that a gasket wasn't necessary. Thanks for any input. Now that I know procedure, it won't take as long, and will do it again. Thanks again.

hey *+john*, your fan is about to disintegrate and i sure hope it doesn't do it at full operating speed with the clutch engaged or you're going to be replacing a LOT of parts.
look at the huge crack in the fan hub at 5:44, i mean that's more massive than all the little cracks i have on my 2002. and at 6:53, some bigger ones.
mine has cracks between most of the fins and i have been waiting for rockauto to restock the dorman fan but i'm giving up on waiting and going to order the motocraft one along with a fan clutch and water pump and that little tiny bypass hose at the top of the water pump because it's only really accessible when the waterpump is removed. (my 02 has a much smaller hose than yours about 2" long buried and i mean buried in there)
if you've got a massive crack like that i bet you 100 bucks you've got them all around the fan hub too.
could you imagine if the thing gave way when the motor was running and you're face was right over it inspecting your engine? it would be like a vietnam cluster bomb.

The part 1 and part 2 videos do not show how you handled the waterpump pulley. Do you have a video that shows that step?

if you can't get the petcock open, grab some things hose. I keep some 1/4" ID hose for things like this. feed one end down through the rad cap opening and siphon the coolant out. it isn't fast but it's very clean and effective.

I have a 97 Eddie Bauer 4 door explorer and the water pump locked up on it yesterday evening and Also destroyed the pulley Shaft coming out of the power steering pump as well, so now I got to put a power steering pump and water pump on togetherbut wasn't one bit shocked when I seen that the serpentine belt was in perfect condition and not bothered one bit but explorers are a mess to work on pretty much anytime it seems like especially changing oil, they make a hell of a mess just about every time and anything to do with the cooling system turns out being messy and brake jobs are a pain in the ass with these vehicles to

What do you torque the bolts to? I didn’t see you use a torque wrench, isn’t one needed?

Thank you for answering the question I just had.
Why these creators of videos don't consider the point of view of the viewer. The detail of SOHC or OHV should have been in the tite and first scene of video and in the summary. Hopefully the person did a better job showing the repair.

@@Mn09lfV6f For future reference, only the 4.0 OHV has "EFI" on the engine cover. The similar cover on a SOHC has "SOHC" on it.

Hey John like your videos they seemed really helpful. Currently changing the water pump in a 2006 Ford Fusion sev 6. Cylinder.
I've changed water pumps good for when they have a tensioner screw to take the build off however I can't see where that is and this model of car. Only thing I can see to do would be to pry it off with a screwdriver don't know if that's correct. Do you have any suggestions or videos related to this model of car and particular water pump. If so it will be helpful or you may know I have a friend on here with videos related to my issue. Thank you suggestions to help would be appreciated. I have pictures in my phone also which I could post. Have a good day .

Rented a Puller from Autozone, pulled harmonic balencer pulley. Put on new water pump, new hoses, new belt. Put balancer back. No leaks.new thermostat. Had to install new t shaped hose connector, really hard to find tho. Napa had the complete pump( both pieces), johnnys had best prices on parts. Car runs great. Improved ac, engine performance, and done deal. Preciate all your advice and videos John . Be Well.

A bad water pump may not always leak. It could make noise like you are describing bur to bad bearings inside it. Unfortunately it is going or be hard to tell because your noise is not gone after spraying lube on your pulleys. It could have been just a belt noise. One way to help find out is to remove the belt and spin each pulley one at a time by hand as fast as you can. Listen for noise while the pulley is spinning that should help you to isolate the noise. One thing that may help is to get a stethoscope and use that to listen for the noise. It will help to locate noises the you may not be able to hear with just your ears. You should be able to get them at an auto parts store or maybe harbor freight, if one is near you for a cheap price..probably 10-15 bucks
