That 911 is turning out absolutely gorgeous, great attention to detail and looks killer. The gold lines actually look good on it, adds some pop to the color pallet.
The car looks fantastic. Personally I love the gold lines and aluminum wheels. The new studs/lugs really set it off. Interesting to see you went with the fixed back. Hopefully you like the seating position they offer. Great content as always.
Thank you
Well the engine bay is uncluttered and clean, interesting to see overall how the new ignition system works out. Wheels.. steelies, are awesome, almost missed the chrome on the outside faces. Not sure about the long studs, but they do have racing history. The gold oil cooler lines make a nice contrast and gives a 60's chronograph look with the overall look and finish when looked from a few feet away, leave them unpainted. Looks good Will, do it the way you want it. Can't wait to see the rest..😉
Wheels look great! Keep the lines gold, love the look of your hotrod 🔥
excellent in every aspect - congratulations and well done my friend
Love the wheels and the old school look! Not a fan of the gold oil lines but hey, it’s your ride. This car is beautiful and appreciate the changes you are making to it.
Look forward to seeing your driving impressions videos. Thanks for sharing!
Great choices Will! Iníquos stuck with gold on the lines. Looking really cool, very inspiring as I’m on my journey to acquire a same period hotrod. Looking forward to see driving impressions (specially MFI in action) and new seats.
Meant liked the gold lines
The wheels are awesome! Great choice Will.
Wow it looks amazing! Those wheels really make the car pop so much more.
Those wheels look perfect! Great look, Will.
In my humble opinion, the paint color of your 911 affords you the luxury of the 16" steelie look and the gold oil cooler lines. That is one amazing 911 hotrod!
Thanks, Phil 🙏🏽
Great improvements - looking forward to some sound clips and driving impressions!
Engine bay looks so good. Can't wait to see the gauges in the car. Look so classy. Steelies work well with the build. Looking forward to your impression on the fixed seats. Great touches throughout. Eagerly awaiting the next update with hopefully some driving clips. Nice job Will.
Thank you. Really enjoying this one. This is a special car and I feel lucky to have grabbed it.
This project is really lifting the channel. Looking forward to seeing the numbers grow as the journey continues and the word travels
Thanks for the support!
Great choice Will! Ironically, I just ordered last week the same wheels in 15’s from Erik for my 71 T build.
Nice job Will, thanks for sharing. I am on the fence with the oil cooler lines. When I first saw them I didn't even know what they were.
Good stuff Will! That engine bay looks so clean. Loving the rest of the touches being done. ONLY because you ask your viewers their opinions, BUT the 16" profile/tires seems slightly big in the video to me? I like the steely look; however, 15" chrome petal Fuchs always look "right" on early cars. Sort of like Cup 1'a on a 964! Wheels are one of those subjective choices that only matter to the owner though! You like them and that's what matters in the end. 🙂 Can't wait to see future driving vids. You're one fortunate dude!
It's looking awesome 👌
I really like the wheels! Great choice
I think the wheels look great. I appreciate you are sticking to your vision for the car. Great job on the engine bay.
Was thinking silver face Fuchs but youve outdone yourself. Excellent wheel choice and the zinc/cadmium plated lines are perfect. The restrained interior touches will be perfect. Killed it.
Thanks for the kind words!!
@@LeftCoastErik the build echos a period correct gentleman’s racer. More I consider all the touches the better the build is!
The way the car sits now looks incredible! Really cool choice on the wheels.
I would never have even thought to look at wheels like that but they look awesome. That is a fantastic car.
Yes on oil lines. Big yes on the wheels. Great choices!
Thanks brother
The car looks stunning, congrats
Love the wheels! The exposed unpainted oil tubes gives a cool steampunk vibe.
Wheels look great. They pull the head light rings, window trim, and engine cover . Great flow
I like the look of the exposed finned brass oil lines, but black is nice too.
Engine bay looks so much better, really like the dials going back to ‘69… the wheels look great, grea5 job so far 👍🏼
Erin’s done a superb job on the engine bay, less is more!
The steel wheels suit the hot rod look and those corduroy RS seats will cap it of 👌🏻
Thanks for the love!
You absolutely nailed it with the wheels...👍
Thanks goes out to Group 4 and Erik at Sports Purpose Garage for these wheels and shoes
Looks killer! Absolutely gorgeous, the wheels, the seats, the gauges...just perfect. I'm very excited about this one and it's been a joy to come along and watch every step of the build so far.
The engine looks superb too, those 908-style airboxes are a cool, period correct touch.
The only thing I would be tempted to change are the front turn signal lenses for some European spec pieces.
Great job!
Thanks so much for the positivity and support…and for watching 👍
Beautiful wheels.
Looks amazing! What size tires are you running? Outstanding content.
Thats a cool choice for wheels. Nice see a sensible diameter and classic look instead of all too common oversized bling wheels that dont fit the estetics of the car..
Great updates to a lovely car. Are wheels as good as Fuchs 🤔, aesthetically, I’d say they are better looking than a 7” Fuchs but I would! Wheels are aluminium, for those asking. Like the gold lines too.
Keep up the good work.
Jonathan @ group 4 wheels
Great content on this channel and I love the enthusiasm. You seem to acquire some great cars and I wonder why you let them go, but somehow you seem to find something better. Makes a very interesting channel too! Question: what do you think of the 914 - have you driven one?
I’ve never driven one before, but have interviewed an owner about his and he loved it.
Regarding your point about selling my cars. I love chasing driving experiences. That said, I feel like what I own now (993, 3.2 and long hood) really cover the spectrum of air cooled Porsche 911 driving experiences so I am thinking I have kind of rounded out what I want. Sooooo…never say never, but I doubt I’ll sell any of these anytime soon.
Thanks for the comment, the support and for watching!
The gold lines speak to a functional build of a beautiful longhood. The wheels are a nice contrast to the paint though I have never been a fan of the steelie look, still not. Though they may not be fresh new & different I do love Fuchs in 16". Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Wheels look good. I was nervous after your 993 choice.
Thanks!
Hahaha thanks also for the feedback on the 993 wheels but I still love my LM’s. So much in fact that I just sold the MY02’s that I used to run. I was going to keep them to switch out every now and then but the LM’s are so good I know I’ll never swap them.
But that’s the thing about wheels and other such personal choices with these cars. We can disagree about the touches but we all agree we love the experience the cars deliver 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I am a fan of the Fuchs. They are my favorite.
Wheels are the perfect fit for this car!
love your car. the silver wheels are beautiful. I want plaid seats when I get mine. Overall you have excellent taste!
Thanks so much!
job well done. leave the lines alone. 💯
Wheels are 🔥 🔥 🔥
Thanks bro.
the wheels are perfect
Some perfect mods! Love the ignition set up. Like the wheels too; might have gone w a more period 15” set up. What about tires?
Hankook rs4’s in 205/55.
I was running 15’s on it originally but it felt a little skittish so I wanted to put a larger wheel with a bit more rubber on the car.
Those wheels are the perfect voice 👍
Wheels YES, Lines Yes, personally I like Recaros ... Really NICE LOOKING CAR .... GREAT CHOICES !!!
Really like the look of these steelies and the fact they are 16s. Would love them in 7s and 8s for my 82 SC!!
the pipes look cool as is
Great project. Those wheels are better than the mini-lite look but I can’t help but think cookie cutters would look better though not as unique as these. The oil lines look a bit untidy, so I guess my vote would have been black. The steering wheel and the new gauges will look great and I think you made the better choice with the seats.
Great wheel choice - keep the oil line as they are. Good seat choice too. I have the same originals in my ‘72. They don’t look comfortable but they really are a great fit. I think you should go for the tartan centers in those like you did in the 993. More appropriate for an early outlaw.
By the way, can you share contact details for John Bell ? Would he be able to restore a pair of Heuer rally timers that I have?
Send an email to Erik and he’ll connect you. His email address is in the description of this video. Thanks!
Looks good. Wheels are a welcome change even though Fuchs are sexy, but hey they've been done. I'd leave the oil lines alone. I'm a little sad the tach wasn't colored to match but I get why that's such a polarizing decision.
I definitely love Fuchs as much as the next guy and a set would look great on this car….but I wanted something different.
The new gauges are in as of yesterday and look great as well. Understated, factory look on the interior is what I’m going for, and Ossi tach wasn’t going to contribute to that.
Will, great choice of wheels. Those are the business on that 911! As to your oil lines, I like them gold, but in the end, IMHO, it doesn't matter what others think as long as you like how the car turns out. Besides, if you change your mind, you can always make a change later, as you know. What tires did you wrap around those beautiful Group4 wheels? Congrats, look forward to your next vids and seeing this car in person this fall (I hope this is the one you'll be bringing to TC).
Thanks for the support. Hankook rs4 205/55’s
Those weels are MEGA
Love the new wheels. What size are they? 16x6 or 16x7?
Love the wheels! Beautiful car. I love that it’s a car to be driven and not just sit in a garage. How hard would it be to find one like this and what should a person’s budget be?
Hard to find, for sure. If you’re looking for budget numbers, check BaT’s long hood 911 auction results: bringatrailer.com/porsche/longhood-911/
Looks great! What's the width on the wheels? Looks like 16x7 squared, but are those 8" wide on the back? What size tires?
Thumbs up on the wheels
Nice!
Looks great. Can you put Porsche crest center caps/covers on the wheels?
Negative
Love the wheels. I do not like the gold. It looks really good Will.
The engine bay, the air cleaners and the tidinesses looks fantastic! The gauges and seats are going to be awesome! I really love the period correct style of the wheels. The oil cooling lines are a personal taste as far as the finish goes. I’d prefer them black, but that’s my taste. I only have one concern, and that’s how low the lines are positioned. Do you have any concerns about debris hitting them, or a low driveway/ speed bump striking them? They seem quite low (about 2”) below the rockers. Gorgeous colour by the way! Blues are my favourite colour on any Porsche!
Cool choice…. The only one which can compete with the Fuchs…. And you can always have a set of 4 bicolor Fuchs somewhere… to switch sometime
Wheels are like watches. Have more than one option and swap them out often.
If you had showed me those wheels off the car I would not have chosen them, but on the car they are awesome. Keep up the great content. I never wanted one of the old long hoods but you have changed my mind with this car. Now which child should I sell??
Probably the youngest child. The older ones can earn money to buy mods with 😂
@@Rennthusiast An enthusiast after my own heart, oh Stephanie, Dad needs a favor........
Hahaha
1) Love the new wheels but the lugs look too long, 2) Not loving the gold oil lines - paint em black. (aren't they kind of vulnerable to getting smashed?). Otherwise, you do a great job on your cars, Will, and I'm anxious to see this bad boy run! Well done!
Good update and engine bay so nice. I personally think the gold oil lines are distracting to the look of the car. I would prefer satin black but just one person's opinion.
We’ll see how they sit with me over the long term. Can always paint them later if I start to agree. But I didn’t want to paint them and not get to experience the gold look. As I mentioned, that’s something I’ve wanted to quite some time.
Oh man. My SWB car needs to be scared- this car looks awesome!! Would love know more about the wheel/tire combo (offset, tire size etc)
Those wheels would look so tough! Very Vintage! I also like the flat dish chrome Porsche hubcaps from the 911s, in 1970 & 71, Chrome Porsche hubcaps fit more with the pure stock old school look.
Not my thing but I respect your point
I understand it's not your thing thanks for your considerate reply, BTW, I was talking about the type of dish hubcaps your friend has on his 1969 orange 912 (from your walk around video in 2020 where the original owner lost his eyesight & sold it to the mechanic). Thanks for your fantastic content!
Approve of wheels and approve the unpainted oil lines.
1. Love the wheels. not sure if they look too big.
2. The gold oil-cooler lines don't bother me a bit.
3. I don't really like the shroud the same color as the car (personal choice).
4. agree to keep the tach standard color
Gold oil pipes the way to go. 👌🏻
Your car, if you like the wheels then they are the right choice.
I think it needs a couple of small stickers to add to the racing look that those wheels give.
Stickers may come in time. I am going to run the car like it is for awhile. Then perhaps when I get the itch to do more those will be an easy change.
@@Rennthusiast You don’t have to go full Magnus Walker, just a Pegasus or a grocery list on the fender.
First off to answer the title question no, IMO for for a long hood ohhh yeah. It's hard to beat the unsprung weight savings of a forged aluminum/magnesium alloy. That said, Group 4 makes an awesome product that provides you with a wider selection of available rubber. I have the Gp4 Campy's and love them, but I'm glad I have a real set of Fuchs 7s and 8s for my G Body as well. I do think you have the best mechanic in in the biz if you want a Sport Purpose 911 Hot-rod!
Love all the personalization choices! I waffled between 15 & 16 for the Grp4 steelies. What tires did you choose?
Hankook rs4 205/55
With the amount of driving (and it’s hard driving) this car will see, 16s offer way more tire options in the correct sizing and those are available at a far better price point. If this was a cars and coffee putt-putt car, 15s and Avons or CN36s would probably have been the call. Will doesn’t let cars sit, lol.
@@LeftCoastErik yep the lack of choice is real
can you talk about your tires? i’m in the market and i have been dealing with back order / supply chain issues. can’t get Toyo or Pirelli that fit. right now.
Hankook rs4’s. 205/55
What kind of oil cooler did you choose? I’m considering the Elephant Racing kit, but it’s very expensive.
We used the Elephant lines but a cooler setup that I source from British American Transfer in FL.
Lovely wheels, fits perfect on older models! Are They aluminium?
Yes, they’re aluminum
🕵🏾💯 nice wheels 👌 👍 😎 Air cool life
Thanks bro
The car looks great. But nothing looks better than original Fuchs wheels. Those new wheels are still cool though.
Don’t like the wheels but Appreciate u don’t follow the trends! Good for u
Thanks!
Love the gold oil lines, it gives it a racing flare but I am sorry the wheels are not for this car, absolutely gorgeous but too shiny and newer looking, old Fuchs are best that’s how the car was designed with. Anyway thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching 🙏🏽
Hmmm, I'm not sure about the wheels, my first impression is they look liked chromed spare (or winter) steel wheels. They might grow on one, however....just the same, the car is looking great.
The engine bay looks great, you should have painted the hinges black. They look rusted/worn.
They are. I noticed that while I was editing this video. I need to deal with them.
I don't know.. Fuchs are my jam
Don't paint the Elephant lines. They're brass, Erik, keep me honest, but wouldn't that make them retain heat? Maybe Cerakote them silver if you feel you need to? Gold always looks good against blue and they are bling. I have have the same setup and the fender cooler with the fan on a rocker switch.
Couldn’t agree more with keeping the color of the lines. It’s a great look with the paint. Thanks for watching.
I get where you're going on those wheels the fuchs are definitely played out, and I would want something more unique as well. Would be cool if there was a more bronze colored magnesium wheel choice. Also either a center cap or something that somewhat hides the exposed five lug.
I'm all about oil coolers and performance, but those oil cooler lines do not look right. For one they're running right behind the front wheel which is going to kick up stones. I would personally prefer a very high quality black AN style hoses, and tuck it for a super clean look. If there is just no room to do that then I would definitely have to paint them matte black to hide. Those oil cooler pipes reminds me of the copper pipes connected to my hot water heater in the basement.
A good choice on those fixed back seats.
Next on your list take the car to a custom interior shop to have a custom boot made to cover up that shifter base. Can do a custom pattern to kind of set off the interior and make it a little bit more personalized. The base of that shifter takes away from the interior imo. Don't mean to sound like I'm bashing your car as it's a super cool car... just if you're asking that's what I'm saying. It is your car and your money, and keep doing what you're doing I'll still be here to watch🏁
Bro no need to apologize for the feedback. Thanks for the thoughts and glad you’re engaged with the build 🙌🏼👍🏼
Nothing wrong with the feedback, but you do realize that the oil lines are in the factory (SC+) location. The rocker covers on later cars do offer some protection but exposed oil lines generally hold up just fine for decades.
@@LeftCoastErik I would have to tuck them with high quality AN black lines then for a super clean look. Those exposed oil lines could have ground clearance issues and or if you hit road debris at high speed. There has to be a company out there in the Porsche world that has a retro fit modern design kit by now?
@@DJ_Driven shockingly they don’t have problems often. I have run them exposed on my car for over 5 years and my car has been Offroad on almost every rally I’ve been on. Lots of track time too. I often run the lightweight black oil lines on cars without coolers and planned to do that on this car too, but the Elephant lines are sexy and Will dug them so that’s what we went with.
@@LeftCoastErik that's good to know rally would definitely test it out. I personally would prefer to go with a hidden tucked under the chassis look for a super clean look. It's just my opinion that everybody has different tastes which I can appreciate. Cars looking good I'm excited to see what you guys accomplish next 🔧🏁
The new wheels are great. The gold lines not so much.
Some love the gold. Some don’t. Sounds like you fall into the second camp.
We’ll see how it is after I live with them. I think they’ll lose some of the brightness once they see road grime.
But also, my thinking is that if they get old I can always paint them. I didn’t want to go with black only to regret not testing out the gold.
I do think the lines look great now though.
I like the rims and the car I think I would paint the pipes black, I don’t think they should stand out that much the rims and the chrome are jewelry the pipes are subordinate they should be hidden in the background or maybe it’ll just tarnish and get dirty and be hidden that way I don’t know Paint them flat black and white then disappear
I think that road grime and general use should tone down the bright gold bling. We’ll see though. Thanks for watching.
The concept of the wheels seems fine, but why not just go with steelies? The engine updates and the interior all look amazing. If it were my car I would paint the gold lines black. Right now it looks like somebody didn’t fully paint the car below the doors and somehow missed the rocker panels. But since you are going for a hot rod look, maybe it just doesn’t matter…?
Thanks for taking a moment to comment.
Real steelies are heavier and the 16” aluminum wheels I went with evoke the steelies look and vibe while at the same time giving me more tire options given the size.
There is PPF on the rockers. Maybe that’s what’s throwing your eye off? The entire car has a fresh paint job, including the rockers.
Thanks again for watching 🙏🏽
@@Rennthusiast Totally get it on the wheel lightness and more tire choices.
What I meant regarding the gold oil cooler lines was that they look like the painter missed that area when the car was painted. The effect is that it looks like the car might have been gold in a previous life. I’d go with black and shift the focus back to the awesome blue paint and the steelie-like wheels.
@@JJL206 oh, ok. I’m gonna roll with the gold for awhile. If I get tired of it I can always paint it. This was the idea. Leave them as they came with the option to paint later. I like the look now….but I’ve been known to change my mind, though.
3:25 916? V8? Am I the only one confused? Am I misunderstanding?
Awesome 911!!! So,... wanna sell it!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!/
Love the car, definitely not the wheels however.
Early 911's look much better with 15" wheels preferably Fuchs... to each his own. Deep 7" all around ...... Sports Purpose who???? 🤣
Those wheels are killing the car. WTF
We will just have to agree to disagree 😃
Why even bother buying this beautiful already road worthy 69 , certainly nothing that required immediate attention. It spent most of its time beung nit picked instead of in the canyons being enjoyed just for you to sale it off for another 993 . This is the I get rid of great Vintage Porsche channel. I bet Porsche collectors love to see you coming ... vintage driving experience is not your thing . Just stick with brand new ones
Garbage wheels. Why go ugly?
Guess you and I will have to agree to disagree, my man 😄
A short answer to your question if your wheels are as good a Fuchs. No.
Nope.
Thanks for commenting 👍🏼
Period correct steelies? Gross. 🤣
