  • After spending a nice day in Downtown Pensacola, we come home to relax for the evening on the back patio with some cold drinks, dutch oven cooking and smoking some seafood! I share my way of smoking crab legs using the Pit Barrel Cooker. I also show you my way of cooking Dutch Oven corn! It was a delicious meal that is easy to cook and sure to please.

Your new slogan may have had some of the same inspirations as mine. I doubt you've ever watched any of my thrift store visit videos, searching for toys that shoot foam darts. Once I really got going, I signed off with "The nerf is out there"

Mmm Mmm, right on, love a good grill'n! Lodge cast is a champ and the steamed corn looks great, although I've been doing a soak and a direct grill until it starts to caramelize, might bive that a try in the cast!

My wife has worked in the meat department at a local grocery store a long time. She doesn't get any discount but she keeps up with what they get in and other than nice steaks she lets me know when they get new shipments of snow crab legs and there not cheap but I always buy two or three 3-4 lb bags cause they're my favorite! Like the vids!

Live in Pea Ridge, Pace, Fl and OMG does that look AWESOME!! We have lived here 30 years in Pace alone, used to be QUIET COUNTRY living and now the kids/family is selling off old land and it is the fastest growing county around, thousands of new homes, loud cars, sirens and OMG traffic and drugs on the rise. Chumuckla is now on the rise by leaps and bounds. Sure miss our country quiet living for sure!!

Hey Donna. I know Pace, Pea Ridge and Milton well. I went to high school at Pace, class of 97. I have family that still live out there and Mom is now in Milton. That place is growing up so fast that people are soon going to realize that the infrastructure is not going to handle it. All the roads except for Hwy 90 are two lanes and you have thousands of homes going up on the north side of Pace. People think I'm stupid when I say I would never live in Pace again. It's a nice place for sure but it's growing too big. My aunt says that 5 points is always a traffic jam now. We're on the hunt for some quiet country living.

We just bought a large and a small dutch oven ( after watching you). They are s good to cook with. We use them all the time. We have one that is glazed, which is so easy to clean afterwards. They do cook much better than ordinary cookware, because they distribute the heat so evenly. Looking for a cast iron egg poacher now.

The pit barrel would have been in the 300-325 temp range. I don’t ever check the ambient temps in there anymore. About 3/4 chimney full of briquettes and heat them up about half way, then dump them in the basket.

One way I grill corn on the cob and it’s real easy. I take four or six ears and soak them in water with a few teaspoons/ tablespoons of sugar stirred in. Soak it about 20 min and put them on the grill with the shuck on. Cook until the shuck starts to dry and brown a little. I really like it that way. I like the way you did it also Adam

Would a person have an even better result if they drilled a tiny hole in the shell of the legs and used a seasoning injector to shoot a lil sauce inside? Or get a super long injector and stab in from the common connection point all the way down to the tip and push a little in each section of each leg. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Might not be worth it.

  • @Garth2011

Yessiree on the corn cooked in the husk ! The natural sugars in the husk are what make them so tasty without having to add butter or seasoning. We always cook them in the husk, never boiled or grilled bare. Its amazingly different and so simple to change from husking then boiling them to cooking them in the husk first then consume. And for those who want to complain about the silk is too hard to clean off when they are hot, its not as hard to remove silk when they are cooked vs. raw...another of life's best's...corn in the husk ! They are even better in the morning with fried eggs.

    The sound of Saturday!
You're correct about the corn... from the time the corn is picked, it starts losing sweetness. If it's more than a few days old, you'll notice.
Never would have considered smoking crab legs... definitely will have to give that a try since you give it the two thumbs up!

Just FYI, I live in South Dakota and grow sweet corn, I boil it or stream in for about 4 minutes...If you cook it longer than that, you cook out all the favor... But I do not cook it with the husk on, which would add some cooking time.

The best way I've found for corn on the cob is to soak it in salted water overnight then cook on the grill in the husk. The saltwater breaks down the oil in the husk, then peal the husk back and use as a handle, cover with butter and eat your heart out.
