      I just got my GT 1030 in the mail a second ago. I got the gigabyte version to use in a slim line emachines el1358 computer. I like it... and guess what.. it runs fine on my 220 watt stock power supply.. who'duh fuckin thunk it?!?!? cheers bro!.
      This card WILL play GTA V as well and it'll play it damn decent too. I was using an nvidia GT 610 so I'm not going to complain.

    Hey Oz just add here that if you carried out a tape mod on a Q6600 you can turn it from 1066 FSB to 1333 FSB. That will default it to 3Ghz (I did this on my dc7800 sff) it adds around 20% to performance ands definitely worth doing, a ghetto way to overclock a non overclockable motherboard. I'm sure we'd all be interested to see 3ghz core2 quad and 1030 Vs stock!

    You found the perfect use case for the gt 1030. +1 subbed. I really think if you put the word out to family and friends you can get a computer like that for free; then spend the hundred on GTX 1050. If you are sure the pcie slot will work with a rx 460 you can get that too. I went through the first 250 items on under $30 computers and they were all either missing too many parts or had at least $20 shipping.

    Hello, what do you think about the Acer Aspire T Desktop? It's a pre-built machine, i5-7400 3.0 ghz (3.5 ghz with turbo boost) 2 tb hdd, 8 gbs ddr4 ram upgradable ( has 2 slots) , has built in wifi, dvd reader its the perfect home desktop. For 450 $, it doesn't has a gpu, but I was thinking installing a Gtx1050ti or a 1060 6 gbs, installing on more 8 gb ram stick. I was wondering if you could give me some advice about the gpu card. How long do you think the 1060 6 gbs will hold on and run games in the next 5 years? Or the 1050ti? I was looking forward to a long lasting machine and then upgrade it when it doesn't meat my needs in 5 years from now. Great video overall

    When you think about it about resolutions such as 720p being hard on the cpu and light on the gpu while these standards above 1080p are soft on the cpu and harder on the gpu, it does get a little self explainatory.

  • @Khanemis
    @Khanemis 7 лет назад

    Nicely made video:) This is surely much more realistic rig than before and a good way to show how upgrading needs to go a bit beyond just pushing a new card into older system:)
    But I think that you could mix those tested games a bit more between multiplayer and singleplayer ones for a better representation of its capabilities. However that's just a minor thing.

    A good part of why Rocket League ran well would simply be that your CPU wasn't holding your GPU back so much. In Overwatch it was as low as 20% GPU usage, getting any cheap quad core of ebay would likely see a massive performance increase to most titles.

    I'm pretty sure the issues of battlegrounds are more due to the fact of the pc only having 4gb of ram. I have a pc with an i5 2500 and 750 ti. With 4gb of ram I couldn't load into the game and when I did I had horrendous stuttering. With 8gb of ram I had no such issues. Could you test the GT 1030 with a core 2 quad instead ?

    • @OzTalksHW
      @OzTalksHW  7 лет назад +6

      Yep - 10 year old CPU + 4GB RAM probably caused the stuttering. I plan on doing a 4GB RAM video just to see how bad it is in the future & I plan on upgrading the CPU to a C2Q. Thanks for watching!

    Due to the design of the case a single bracket card could fit in there. I recommend Zotacs gtx 1050 ti for performance and q9650 cpu as it's a $50 quad-core processor clocked at 3.0 ghz . and 8 gb ram to reduce stuttering in game. To make it run faster buy an SSD with the hdd to ssd bracket adapter for best performance, but even so you are better off buying a newer build than this.
    I used to own a Old optiplex mini tower like this and it can not hold dual bracket cards (learn from my mistake ) single bracket only.

  • @kaitlyn__L
    @kaitlyn__L 7 лет назад

    for what it's worth, putting the render scale in overwatch down to 75% might be the edge it needs to reduce those stuttery periods. obviously that's not "really" 1080p but at least the UI is still crisp compared to turning down the game's output resolution.

    Nice Build! can you make a video on a super cheap under $50 build? used/ i'd like to see that?

  • @caharkness
    @caharkness 7 лет назад

    Honestly, if I knew the 1030 was out before I dropped $1,500 on my build, I would have chosen the 1030 over the GTX 1050 Ti. I use a 1080p monitor, and I always turn off anti-aliasing on any game I play. A Core i7-7700k, 32 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB NVMe SSD coupled with a GT 1030. It's definitely not a bad card, and I know PUBG *will* run on this card once they figure out how to optimize the game better.
    Fun fact, turning your settings down to the bare minimum, while keeping your monitor's native screen resolution, will give you the competitive edge in first person shooters. You'll have more GPU power in reserve for moments you wish you had it, and it's generally easier to identify moving objects at a distance.

    For those that have an older PC that will not take a 2 slot cards (like the RX550) this is the only game in town with current technology Nvidia. My Dell desktop that I use for school is old but on a student budget it does what I need for WebCT and Blackboard, streams a few videos and will also do the graphics/cad design work I need. With the Nvidia GTX 1030 it now has a new modern graphics card that fits, draws ~30w and brings a bit better performance @ $65 (NewEgg) and will allow my PC to last me a bit longer while I finish school. Even the older GTX 750ti and many other cards of that era are 2 slot and just won't fit. So while many people will bash the new GTX 1030 for what it's not, it does have it's niche for people like me that own older DELL, HP and Emachines that can not accept larger PCIe cards while comming in under the radar for power using the existing stock power supply.

    Lol, yeah, PUBG is a pretty rough title. Min CPU is a FX-6300 or i3-4340. I'm upgrading to a R5 in the next month or 2, but this is the first game to actually fall into the "borderline playable" category on my old under-spec Athlon II X4 645 @ 3.45 GHz (can only push a FSB overclock so far before the soundcard, tv card, etc start to glitch out on the accelerated bus, I think the chip still has more) when paired with a RX-480. That is at 1080 with 90 scaling and low settings. That PC probably plays Bluerays like a champ, but games based on Arma mods, not so much.

    Hey! You should take a $15-20 xeon X5460 and a LGA 771 to LGA 775 tape and throw that onto that motherboard. It is a quad core, I use it in my parents old dell. The only thing is the fan struggles to keep the 95w chip cool as opposed to the stock 65W chip. They just do web browsing so it's fine but for gaming a cheap lga 775 cooler might be a necessity

    I'm thinking about getting a GT 1030 for my Gateway form-factor PC.
    The low tdp makes this card about the only option. I used Cooler Master's psu calculator and my PC just makes it with it's 220w psu (also factoring that I'm not using my dvd drive).
    *Specs: AMD A6 3620 apu, 4 cores at 2.5ghz, 8gb ddr3 1600*. ...Tbh, the A6 can do some okay gaming at 720p. I want to build a proper gaming PC when I have the cash. But, I figure I might be able to play some older games from 2012 and back on pretty decent settings, and maybe some heavier modern games at 720p-900p hitting 60fps. I don't mind lowering res for performance sake. I have a PS4 ;)

    Ok serious question:
    Do you know if a standard PSU fits the Optiplex chassis, like the one in the video? More specifically, if possible, an EVGA 450W B?

    Interesting video. Playing at 1080p doesn't really make sense at this price range. I think buyers would be better off buying a PC with a 4+ threaded CPU and buying a used GPU over the 1030. Low end GPUs are generally bad value propositions especially brand new.

    You must consider buying a 22-25$ xeon cpu because it does miracles there is a Xeon for socket 775 4 cores 8 threads 12 mb cache 3.00 GHZ for 22 bucks in ali express.I guarantee you it will double to tripple the performance

    Hi Oz,
    I have an AMD A6 3670K with 8GB of DDR3 RAM. I bought a 1050 Ti, which I later returned as it was faulty, so I'm looking to get another card.
    Do you think a 1050 Ti is overkill for my set-up? The most demanding game I have is Rocket League. Would a 1030 be fine for my needs? I need to stay Nvidia because I'm on Ubuntu and AMD drivers are a bit rubbish.
    I'm not planning on upgrading the CPU any time soon, as the system is absolutely great for everything I do except newer 3D games.
    Cheers!

      IAW Because I much prefer it as a general purpose OS, particularly on old hardware. My friend's main gaming machine runs Debian and it's great.
      I do have a Windows 10 license, though, so it's not beyond me to dual boot

    • @terrencesauve
      @terrencesauve 7 лет назад +2

      The price premium for the Ti is not worth it for your motherboard/CPU combination. But like other comments, you get more bang for your buck going from 1030 to 1050.

    I have a slim line Emachines El1358G computer I uprgraded to its max. It has 8 GB kingston hyper X Blu ram a GT1030 gigabyte brand graphics card but my cpu is only a dual core AMD X2 220.. Think Ill be able to play decent games? I plan on getting a quad core AMD Phenom X4 CPU real soon. I know its all older tech but my computer cant handle alot with its power supply etc.

    upgrade it to a Q6600 and try benchmarking again.
    Not only that, but you're maxing out settings and testing on 1080p, most people using these low-end 1030s/550s don't have 1080p monitors.

    You know.. the PUBG bench cracked me up. It's getting better all the time, but I have a R5 1600 @ 3.8 with 16GB RAM @ 3000 and a 1080 Ti and I still don't load into the game sometimes until the plane is in the air. This only happens the first match I play of any given day (weird). Which is the same issue I had with my FX 8370, 16GB DDR3, and a RX 480 before I upgraded to the prior mentioned specs. I'm beginning to wonder if it's and AMD hw optimization thing.. have you noticed anything similar with your R5?

    i have a 500 dollar build challenge for you!
    i7 4790k (usually around 200)
    cooler master 212 (used go very cheap and they are legendary)
    it doesnt really matter what mobo since there are alot of them under 100
    gtx 980ti (usually goes for around 200-250)
    maybe slap a accelero on for amazing overclocking
    16 gb ddr3 fast ram (old cpus work better with faster ram, simulair to the ryzen chips from now. 2133 or 2400 will do)
    storage doesnt really matter but on the used market you can get 1tb hdd's and 250/480 gb ssd's fairly cheap ill leave this one up to you
    500 psu
    a case with good airflow since 980ti's are legendary for overclocking just like the 4790k definetly want to keep those cool
    this performs very near to a i7 6700k w/ gtx 1070 and its great value for money id love to see you do a build like this

      OzTalksHW thanks man. im doing this build myself soon and i appreciate the reply very very much. i considered this build since ram prices have been rising since november last year and im getting a bit inpatient because my i5 2400 and gtx 660 arent really holding up anymore also since the ethereum (if thats how you spell it) mining i decided to also take a used gpu and seeing how a 980ti is very simulair to a 1070 (especially when overclocked) it seemed perfect. i wanted to go the ryzen 5 1600 way but since used ddr4 ram is not to be found and ram prices are high i figured i would get everything used except the psu (cuz you know ka bum) you might wonder why my budget is so strict but that is because even though i have a job taxes and stuff are just draining my money. again thank you sooo much for the reply and keep up the good work
