I just got my GT 1030 in the mail a second ago. I got the gigabyte version to use in a slim line emachines el1358 computer. I like it... and guess what.. it runs fine on my 220 watt stock power supply.. who'duh fuckin thunk it?!?!? cheers bro!. This card WILL play GTA V as well and it'll play it damn decent too. I was using an nvidia GT 610 so I'm not going to complain.
Man, I can't believe I hadn't ever heard of this channel until today. This is fantastic content & the effort & time you put into your videos really shows. This channel is EXTREMELY underrated & I hope you're able to find the success you deserve. Keep up the awesome work & know that your content is most definitely appreciated. Excellent videos my dude. For real.
Awesome vid as usual Oz. In these hard times computer games are a great escape, but only if we can afford it. You are doing a public service here and I salute you.
You found the perfect use case for the gt 1030. +1 subbed. I really think if you put the word out to family and friends you can get a computer like that for free; then spend the hundred on GTX 1050. If you are sure the pcie slot will work with a rx 460 you can get that too. I went through the first 250 items on under $30 computers and they were all either missing too many parts or had at least $20 shipping.
I have that exact Optiplex sitting on my desk. I use it as a render machine. It's slow, but I just queue stuff up on it and let it run while I'm doing more intensive work on my main machine on my desk.
great build bro, and your assessment of it was equally valuable. sometimes it's worth the slightly higher budget for the exponential increase in performance. especially the used market. also, this video was beautiful. #quality-goals
I'm pretty sure the issues of battlegrounds are more due to the fact of the pc only having 4gb of ram. I have a pc with an i5 2500 and 750 ti. With 4gb of ram I couldn't load into the game and when I did I had horrendous stuttering. With 8gb of ram I had no such issues. Could you test the GT 1030 with a core 2 quad instead ?
Yep - 10 year old CPU + 4GB RAM probably caused the stuttering. I plan on doing a 4GB RAM video just to see how bad it is in the future & I plan on upgrading the CPU to a C2Q. Thanks for watching!
OzTalksHW If you do a comparison, could you try 6gb of ram as well as 8? I feel like 6 is a viable option that most people don't test. Thanks, and great video!
Sure its a good deal, especially if you can find z77 motherboard for cheap which is really rare actually. If you dont want to go throughout all the hassle I advise you to keep it simple and get a pentium g4560 with b250m chipset motherboard and if you want just upgrade it later on with something like an i5 7400. I hope I helped.
When you think about it about resolutions such as 720p being hard on the cpu and light on the gpu while these standards above 1080p are soft on the cpu and harder on the gpu, it does get a little self explainatory.
Hey! I just commented this on the other video hahah. Good vid. This is exactly what it was made for. Kind of amazing that this little passively cooled card can game.
Hey Oz just add here that if you carried out a tape mod on a Q6600 you can turn it from 1066 FSB to 1333 FSB. That will default it to 3Ghz (I did this on my dc7800 sff) it adds around 20% to performance ands definitely worth doing, a ghetto way to overclock a non overclockable motherboard. I'm sure we'd all be interested to see 3ghz core2 quad and 1030 Vs stock!
Nicely made video:) This is surely much more realistic rig than before and a good way to show how upgrading needs to go a bit beyond just pushing a new card into older system:) But I think that you could mix those tested games a bit more between multiplayer and singleplayer ones for a better representation of its capabilities. However that's just a minor thing.
Ended up pairing mines with an I3-2100 in a SFF case using a 240w power supply. I need to upgrade the RAM to 8GB but my 3dmark Fire-strike scores are below for those interested. Roughly the performance of a PC with a 560ti from back in the day. Overall 3114 Graphics: 3730 / Test 1 = 17.33 FPS / Test 2 = 15.25 FPS Physics: 3860 / Test = 12.26 FPS Combined: 1232 / Test = 5.73 FPS
For those that have an older PC that will not take a 2 slot cards (like the RX550) this is the only game in town with current technology Nvidia. My Dell desktop that I use for school is old but on a student budget it does what I need for WebCT and Blackboard, streams a few videos and will also do the graphics/cad design work I need. With the Nvidia GTX 1030 it now has a new modern graphics card that fits, draws ~30w and brings a bit better performance @ $65 (NewEgg) and will allow my PC to last me a bit longer while I finish school. Even the older GTX 750ti and many other cards of that era are 2 slot and just won't fit. So while many people will bash the new GTX 1030 for what it's not, it does have it's niche for people like me that own older DELL, HP and Emachines that can not accept larger PCIe cards while comming in under the radar for power using the existing stock power supply.
Honestly, if I knew the 1030 was out before I dropped $1,500 on my build, I would have chosen the 1030 over the GTX 1050 Ti. I use a 1080p monitor, and I always turn off anti-aliasing on any game I play. A Core i7-7700k, 32 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB NVMe SSD coupled with a GT 1030. It's definitely not a bad card, and I know PUBG *will* run on this card once they figure out how to optimize the game better. Fun fact, turning your settings down to the bare minimum, while keeping your monitor's native screen resolution, will give you the competitive edge in first person shooters. You'll have more GPU power in reserve for moments you wish you had it, and it's generally easier to identify moving objects at a distance.
CS:GO is working great with medium settings on a GT 1030 (my is the one with the slower DDR4 and passive cooling), PC is a Lenovo Thincentre m93p, Core5i, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, 240 watt powersupply, the card only draws 30watt and that is perfekt for such a machine
Hey bro your video is amazing. Just a little tip, try to put some music especially at the begining. Your videos will look that bit more professional :D
for what it's worth, putting the render scale in overwatch down to 75% might be the edge it needs to reduce those stuttery periods. obviously that's not "really" 1080p but at least the UI is still crisp compared to turning down the game's output resolution.
A good part of why Rocket League ran well would simply be that your CPU wasn't holding your GPU back so much. In Overwatch it was as low as 20% GPU usage, getting any cheap quad core of ebay would likely see a massive performance increase to most titles.
Interesting video. Playing at 1080p doesn't really make sense at this price range. I think buyers would be better off buying a PC with a 4+ threaded CPU and buying a used GPU over the 1030. Low end GPUs are generally bad value propositions especially brand new.
Due to the design of the case a single bracket card could fit in there. I recommend Zotacs gtx 1050 ti for performance and q9650 cpu as it's a $50 quad-core processor clocked at 3.0 ghz . and 8 gb ram to reduce stuttering in game. To make it run faster buy an SSD with the hdd to ssd bracket adapter for best performance, but even so you are better off buying a newer build than this. I used to own a Old optiplex mini tower like this and it can not hold dual bracket cards (learn from my mistake ) single bracket only.
Hello, what do you think about the Acer Aspire T Desktop? It's a pre-built machine, i5-7400 3.0 ghz (3.5 ghz with turbo boost) 2 tb hdd, 8 gbs ddr4 ram upgradable ( has 2 slots) , has built in wifi, dvd reader its the perfect home desktop. For 450 $, it doesn't has a gpu, but I was thinking installing a Gtx1050ti or a 1060 6 gbs, installing on more 8 gb ram stick. I was wondering if you could give me some advice about the gpu card. How long do you think the 1060 6 gbs will hold on and run games in the next 5 years? Or the 1050ti? I was looking forward to a long lasting machine and then upgrade it when it doesn't meat my needs in 5 years from now. Great video overall
I would recommend upgrading to a tapemodded Q6600 or preferably Q6700. I actually run an Optiplex 780 with a tapemodded Q6700 at 3.33GHz, 7GB DDR3, and a GTX 750 OC put together for $120.
I had the same tower, but I put in an x3363 xeon with the lga 771 to 775 adapter. That drops the clock a little but adds 2 more cores for a little over $20.
My core 2 quad q6600 cost me 13.22 on Ebay and that with a 6 month protection plan.i love it plan on putting a rx 460 or gtx 1050 or the gt 1030 in the machine.the machine is a Dell Dimension E520.
Does anyone norice that even when you have high FPS, like 50+ every so often the screen kind freezes for a fraction of a second anyway? it's weird and sometimes when you're turning, you can see kinda tearing or something in the textures like they're bring built around you as you're moving?
gt 1030 1440x900 benchmarks? Is it a worthy upgrade for 129 AUD if there are no used 750 (even ti's) for sale near you? Background info is a 220w psu (currently using a hd 7750 with it), 12gb ram, 120gb ssd, and an i3 2120 (can buy a 2500k for 65 AUD at CEX).
Oz - I was wondering what the utility you use in the upper right is that displays the frame rate and gpu/cpu temps? Great video and I just got my GT-1030 installed on a HP 8200 with 8gb of RAM - I'm getting some odd screen blackouts even though I've set minimums and wonder what sort of things to turn off in Windows 10 to help the situation...
Ok serious question: Do you know if a standard PSU fits the Optiplex chassis, like the one in the video? More specifically, if possible, an EVGA 450W B?
Please help I bought a gt1030 yesterday and I can't run dx11 it's showing an error saying dx11 level 10 requaird to run this engine I see everyone playing dx11 without a problem what am I doing wrong??? Please reply
why wouldn't you do the tape mod on the c2d 8400 it takes the clock speed from 2.8 to 3.5ghz its on modsteks newest hp compac case mod video and bench test
Lol, yeah, PUBG is a pretty rough title. Min CPU is a FX-6300 or i3-4340. I'm upgrading to a R5 in the next month or 2, but this is the first game to actually fall into the "borderline playable" category on my old under-spec Athlon II X4 645 @ 3.45 GHz (can only push a FSB overclock so far before the soundcard, tv card, etc start to glitch out on the accelerated bus, I think the chip still has more) when paired with a RX-480. That is at 1080 with 90 scaling and low settings. That PC probably plays Bluerays like a champ, but games based on Arma mods, not so much.
Would it make more sense for a PC like that to upgrade the processor to a core 2 quad say a Q9550 to better the framerates. Quads are super cheap on ebay and are easy enough to install
upgrade that core 2 duo to a quad core 3.1GHz Xeon X5460 for $30 with a simple socket mod and processor sticker. These Xeons work in a Dell Inspiron 560. Then get a Dell Dimension 9100 heat sink and shroud for around $10. much larger heat sink with copper heat pipes.
Hey! You should take a $15-20 xeon X5460 and a LGA 771 to LGA 775 tape and throw that onto that motherboard. It is a quad core, I use it in my parents old dell. The only thing is the fan struggles to keep the 95w chip cool as opposed to the stock 65W chip. They just do web browsing so it's fine but for gaming a cheap lga 775 cooler might be a necessity
So, PUBG shoudl run fine on a G4560, 1050 2GB OC edition, and 8gb ram? Im trying to find a benchmark video for that set of hardware or anything similar but i cant.
I've only really experienced that with PCIe 3.0 cards that don't have a supplementary power connector, as well as pretty much most AMD Cards. Most of my problems were with RX 460s/560s due to power draw issues.
i was afraid seeing these results because i want to buy a budget pc with the video card as seen in this video, the big difference is that i will have 8 gigs of ram and a intel pentium g4560, will the difference in game be shown?
You must consider buying a 22-25$ xeon cpu because it does miracles there is a Xeon for socket 775 4 cores 8 threads 12 mb cache 3.00 GHZ for 22 bucks in ali express.I guarantee you it will double to tripple the performance
Hey Oz did you know changing the games priorities and disabling all services except for nvidia control panel and 2 other services and microsofts services can give you a boost in fps
I have 5 year old setup of and i5 4460 with 16GB(8x2) DDR3 RAM and recently upgraded to a 480GB WD green SSD. will it help if i add a GT1030 DDR5 to the mix. I mostly play Need for Speed and Skyrim and may be play other RPGs at a later point. i will be content with anything above 45FPS average. with it help me get that 50fps mark or close at 1080p in medium to high preset?
I'm really interested in computers and how the work I just built a ryzen system but I was curious were did you learn every thing you know? Is there like a major in college that deals with this stuff?
I have this card coming in the mail tomorrow. Do you think I'll be able to play some decent games with my specs. I have a slim line Emachines El1358G computer I uprgraded to its max. It has 8 GB kingston hyper X Blu ram a GT1030 gigabyte brand graphics card but my cpu is only a dual core AMD X2 220.. Think Ill be able to play decent games? I plan on getting a quad core AMD Phenom X4 CPU real soon. I know its all older tech but my computer cant handle alot with its power supply etc.
i've got the same computer, but mine has 8 gb memory and a 750 gb hard drive, i bought it for $150 and it came with a monitor a mouse and key pad, and i'm planning putting the some card in it, because it's cheap and power efficient and i won't have to upgrade my power supply, until i decide i want to of course.
Hi there... I liked and subscribed. i have a question though. im running an intel skylake i3-6300 3.8GHZ processor. If i add this card EVGA GeForce GT 1030 SC 2GB to it will i see a big improvement on PUBG?
I use a strix gtx 960 4gb with and i3 2120 and I can definitely vouch for it, its a great performer for its price, I can run any game I like no problem😊
I'm trying to build a computer to run Destiny 2 very well on the cheapest possible build, what would I need at a minimum and what would I be looking at on total price?
Guys, I really need help. I got my lenovo y520 laptop with nvidia geforce gtx 1050 gpu 4gb and 4gb ram and i7 processor. I play overwatch and the fps is UNSTABLE. When it drops to
Georgi Ivanov nah it probably doesn't... My i5 6400 gets like 45 fps in csgo and only like 30fps on GTA on low, I have a GTX 1050 but I accidentally forgot to plug hdmi into the gpu and got shit results haha.
I upgraded the system. Went from a core 2 Duo to a core 2 quad. Here are the results! ruclips.net/video/arMHNMh77dk/видео.html
Can i run pubg? I have an AMD A10 9600P with 16 gb of ram and 1tb of hard disc. And a radeon R5 graphic card with 4 gb. Answer please.
carlos garcia nah
+BluD why?
outdated gpu, not really meant to run games. and even if you could nothing recent.
The GT 1030 is being bottlenecked by the Core 2 Duo. Pop in a 20 dollar q6600 and it will run much better!
That will be next project!
OzTalksHW 😁
The hype is real.
i got my q6600 for 14
Really he should just go away from the 775 socket, it's just way too dated now, the q6600 bottlenecks almost everything.
Morgan Freeman move over. this is the voice
But I like Morgans voice :/
Jose Araque sounds like a completely average guy wtf is wrong with you
mixsignal91 too true!
????? No one will ever replace Morgan. No one will EVER come close to Morgans voice.
Orlyy he isn't close. He is ahead.
Man, I can't believe I hadn't ever heard of this channel until today. This is fantastic content & the effort & time you put into your videos really shows. I think he found his success!
If you put in a core 2 quad 6600 or 8400 it will perform much better. They are about $10 - $15
dankmems421 E8400 is garbage. 5 dollars more and you can get q6600.
f u c k, i have the E8400
yeah the q6600 works way better
I bought this for a friend a few months ago and installed a Q9300. It's crazy how much of a difference it makes to about $10-20 more.
MidProductionz u knw how to build pcs?

your voice can make even a cheap budget build sound so satisfying. Keep being you, I subbed.
Oh now I remember how I found your channel. Cheap but decent computers. Oh btw the RX 460 by Gigabyte is now $70 and beats the GT 1030
OpTic KTG that's a good deal for a 460
lol my friend bought his 1030 a week ago
Thanks for staying!
pawan hada Sorry it's not $70 right now due to Bitcoin miners but it will go back down to $70 soon on Newegg
OpTic KTG no one mines with the Rx 460 dude
I have that exact Optiplex sitting on my desk. I use it as a render machine. It's slow, but I just queue stuff up on it and let it run while I'm doing more intensive work on my main machine on my desk.
behold; the ugliest masterpiece
the most accurate way to describe this haha
OzTalksHW 😂
H C sleeper pc master race
Well... you`re not wrong.
Amazing video, hammered home the details for me,plus really liked ur honest opinion in the end.
Up until 2 years ago, I was using the GTX 260, and this GPU is more than twice as good as it :')
It's insane how far we're progressing! What did you upgrade to?
OzTalksHW nothing, apparently
a potato
great build bro, and your assessment of it was equally valuable. sometimes it's worth the slightly higher budget for the exponential increase in performance. especially the used market. also, this video was beautiful. #quality-goals
Thanks Lee. Your 4K content is going to blow mine out of the water pretty soon ;)

prerunnerwannabe I was thinking the same.
Game uses VRAM and not RAM, VRAM is DDR5 while normal one is DDR4, to be opened in background yeah or browsing internet.
PUBG wasn't playable with my q6600 with 8gb ram and a HD7850. This was in August however
It's amazing how fast all the tech channels grow
How the HELL is this piece of junk better than my 900 dollar dell i cant even play FUCKING ROBLOX
Christian Page that's why you don't buy prebuilts my friend
Love the vids, bro! Take all the time ya need to get adjusted. True fans will still be here :D
How would this do but change to Q9400 and 8gb ram?
Is an used i5 3570k a good deal for 74 bucks? Or should i just get an g4560?
go for it
great deal
*a used

3570k overclocked > g4560
Looks like pubg on Xbox one
Dannyjak still Better than on Xbox lol
Great video I really enjoyed it, love the channel too.

I had the same tower, but I put in an x3363 xeon with the lga 771 to 775 adapter. That drops the clock a little but adds 2 more cores for a little over $20.
Like the REAL content, not super flashy BUT DOWN TO THE REAL STUFF !! realistic... NEW SUB OZ
Just subscribed awsome video.
My core 2 quad q6600 cost me 13.22 on Ebay and that with a 6 month protection plan.i love it plan on putting a rx 460 or gtx 1050 or the gt 1030 in the machine.the machine is a Dell Dimension E520.
It works in my 2009 HP desktop, but not my 2012 Medion desktop. The Medion lacks UEFI but still (and only) shows the boot logo.
I know from experience if u don't have a good pc turn your render distance down to as low as it goes, it makes all the difference
Ok serious question:
Do you know if a standard PSU fits the Optiplex chassis, like the one in the video? More specifically, if possible, an EVGA 450W B?
Do you think upgrading to an 8 gig ram would bump those benchmarks up? bcs I'm actually considering something a little more high end than this
I have a question to ask. can a optiplex 360 run a gt 1030?
How did you get it to work with an LGA 775 system? I thought GT 1030 was UEFI only?
Please help I bought a gt1030 yesterday and I can't run dx11 it's showing an error saying dx11 level 10 requaird to run this engine I see everyone playing dx11 without a problem what am I doing wrong??? Please reply
Troy Rocker supports dx10 only
why wouldn't you do the tape mod on the c2d 8400 it takes the clock speed from 2.8 to 3.5ghz its on modsteks newest hp compac case mod video and bench test
5:34 that scared the shit out of me
good video btw
Would it make more sense for a PC like that to upgrade the processor to a core 2 quad say a Q9550 to better the framerates. Quads are super cheap on ebay and are easy enough to install
can someone explain 1% low thing, it appeared recently in the tests, I didn't see that back in 2015?
upgrading to a quad-core and 8gb ddr3 would easily remedy the stutter
upgrade that core 2 duo to a quad core 3.1GHz Xeon X5460 for $30 with a simple socket mod and processor sticker.
Im trying to find a benchmark video for that set of hardware or anything similar but i cant.
isn't there some uefi problems with old prebuilt motherboards and graphics card compatibility
I've only really experienced that with PCIe 3.0 cards that don't have a supplementary power connector, as well as pretty much most AMD Cards. Most of my problems were with RX 460s/560s due to power draw issues.
How much ram on a GPU card would you suggest for computer like this to play decent games?
i was afraid seeing these results because i want to buy a budget pc with the video card as seen in this video, the big difference is that i will have 8 gigs of ram and a intel pentium g4560, will the difference in game be shown?
You must consider buying a 22-25$ xeon cpu because it does miracles there is a Xeon for socket 775 4 cores 8 threads 12 mb cache 3.00 GHZ for 22 bucks in ali express.I guarantee you it will double to tripple the performance
Man, this shit just keeps getting better and better
Hey Oz did you know changing the games priorities and disabling all services except for nvidia control panel and 2 other services and microsofts services can give you a boost in fps
Nice Build! can you make a video on a super cheap under $50 build? used/ i'd like to see that?
I have 5 year old setup of and i5 4460 with 16GB(8x2) DDR3 RAM and recently upgraded to a 480GB WD green SSD. will it help if i add a GT1030 DDR5 to the mix. I mostly play Need for Speed and Skyrim and may be play other RPGs at a later point. i will be content with anything above 45FPS average. with it help me get that 50fps mark or close at 1080p in medium to high preset?
how about swapping out the e8400 with a q6600? does that help with benchmarks at all?
I'm really interested in computers and how the work I just built a ryzen system but I was curious were did you learn every thing you know? Is there like a major in college that deals with this stuff?
How do u checknthe pc stats? Nice vid +sub :>
I have an OptiPlex 780 with a Core 2 quad q9550 and an AMD Firepro v5800, is the GT 1030 a good card to upgrade it with?
I have this card coming in the mail tomorrow. Do you think I'll be able to play some decent games with my specs.
I have a slim line Emachines El1358G computer I uprgraded to its max. It has 8 GB kingston hyper X Blu ram a GT1030 gigabyte brand graphics card but my cpu is only a dual core AMD X2 220.. Think Ill be able to play decent games? I plan on getting a quad core AMD Phenom X4 CPU real soon. I know its all older tech but my computer cant handle alot with its power supply etc.
Does anyone know if I could run PUBG with these specs. Intel i5 2500 quad core 3.3 ghz, GT 1030, 8gb Ram? Medium would be fine with decent fps.
Yes, pretty effortlessly, actually.
I agree with your comments on SMITE :D Too bad it doesn't get as much recognition as other mobas :/ Nice video btw!
Haha I've been playing it since Alpha and absolutely love it!
How much fps will i get with i3 2100 and gt 1030 4gb ram
what Bios version you have? my bios is 6.16 and afraid it wont work for me.
THX for video Oz
i've got the same computer, but mine has 8 gb memory and a 750 gb hard drive, i bought it for $150 and it came with a monitor a mouse and key pad, and i'm planning putting the some card in it, because it's cheap and power efficient and i won't have to upgrade my power supply, until i decide i want to of course.
the optiplex is not recognising the gt 1030. i am using the one from palit is that a problem? thanks in advanced
What is better : 1030 / core 2 duo e8400 / 8gb ram
750ti / core 2 duo e8400 / 4gb ram
I want play at planet coaster ?!
pls i need help ! thanks
planet coaster is great game
Kiks Coaster both will play it on eas but the 1030 one is better
First
When it drops to
Anas Fakhri update your drivers
Anas Fakhri it's your ram
Have you tested the SkyLake and KabyLake integrated GPUs? I am almost sure that it would perform better than this PC. /KabyLake Pentiums for example/
Georgi Ivanov nah it probably doesn't... My i5 6400 gets like 45 fps in csgo and only like 30fps on GTA on low, I have a GTX 1050 but I accidentally forgot to plug hdmi into the gpu and got shit results haha.
