Alright, I finally got around to completing this category for the third time. I came into this knowing 2 new differences compared to last time: Timing on the leaderboard is now ranked by gameplay time with allotted breaks and not pure RTA (although it's still on there regardless) and that I had a lot of time to save on Mew, the 2 fish, and not grinding Howling Forest. Thanks to that knowledge I still managed to save 4 hours over my previous gameplay time (about 71 hours) and an hour over my previous RTA (99 hours). Some of my highlights of this run gameplay-wise included:
-Really good item luck early on with Pierce Band, X-Ray Specs, etc.
-Saving 2 hours on getting 3/4 of the fish
-Really good Legendary Recruit luck for the most part
-Generally saved time on most parts of recruit spam
-Got all the evolutionary stones I needed from both Solar Cave and Wish Cave pretty easily
-Probably the best item luck I've ever seen in Purity Forest
However, this run was supposed to be 4 days this time with the knowledge I'd gotten from the past 2 and extra routing, but no recruit em all run is without its fair share of problems:
-Didn't get Skarmory's friend area early so I lost about 2-3 hours trying to get it / level it up later
-Mew took 4 complete visits of Buried Relic (got on 94F of 4th visit)
-Didn't get Pidgey nor Exeggcute
-Wish Cave was an absolute nightmare, 3 deaths and killed my morale
-Generally just playing a bit slower than before (worse any% time, took a bit longer to get through 99F's than usual, etc.)
All in all this run definitely had some good and bad, meaning I'll likely return once more to this category to leave it when satisfied. Still glad I ended up finishing and getting a PB, and I have to say if it wasn't for the change in timing method I'd probably have lost my mind. -- Watch live at / wh0misds

I love it when I see a speedrun that requires a calendar instead of a stopwatch.
Yea, these are the best types.
Honestly, a calendar is better. It tells you when the speed run will be and how long it'll be.

@@WeLoveAspect It makes me so happy that my first Mystery Dungeon game is getting remade! PMD2 got all the attention, and it deserves it, but hopefully many more people will love the first one now as well.
@@Dave_Chrome Team red will always have a very special place in my heart as my all time favorite Pokémon game. (Sky being close second, third being HG/SS)
But the amount of emotions, suspense and comedy is just on point in the two PMD-games.
I prefer PMD explorers of Sky in all ways EXCEPT how they removed friend areas. I personally found them cool.
These are both so well made musically, story and gameplay wise they are true classics in turn-based games, like Fire-Emblem

I love speedruns, especially if they along. It’s honestly the best way for me to relax after politics and a long busy day and I love the nostalgic feeling I get from the old games I used to play. Thank you for this experience. You have a great day any day everyday.
I went into today wanting a normal casual speedrun. I spent all of today watching this one. I love this and I'm only on part one, can't wait to watch the rest. This is making me want to pick up my DS and play along. Great video!

@@Tojohiruma Big same. Still have my hard copy of the game with a few hundred hours and Maxed out Charizard (my starter). I think Heat Wave is at +12 or something. Constantly stole from Keckleon Shops
kpa732 so with your charizard you could escape from them ? Also ive always wondered is there a limited amount of kecleons by level or do they keep popping off ?
@@Tojohiruma 10 months late to reply but the kecleons are "infinite" til your time on floor runs out. You can walk in walls (ability/item) and find a spot unreachable by them and kill them from a distance (piercing band or ranged move) pretty easily if you wanna stick around for a long time and grind on them for whatever reason

When i spend my time watching a 67 hour speedrun and i'm only 4 hours in: Well i've wasted my time if i don't watch it all
Boy i remember this game, had FUN! when i got treekco and learned the hard way that the first 5-6 bosses and final mission boss had type advantage.

Lt Col Rayquaza i had a treecko during a run too!! i got lucky finding a bullet seed tm and spammed it the entire time !!
This is awesome. I didn't know anyone even did these kinds of speedruns. Also in the cutscene after Lapis cave showing the volcano, the lavafalls look like a sliggoo's face.
Holy shit and you succeeded?? Some of the 99 floors dungeons are absolutely unforgiving. And recruiting Kecleon is probably the hardest thing in the history of Pokémon no joke. Mad probs
god this game is my childhood and i love how someone made a entire playthrough on it.

God I love this game. I remember never reaching evolution on any Pokemon but always restarting and trying to get different Pokemon from the quiz at the start. Good times man.

this is so cool but it becomes almost unwatchable once all the people are in the call. nothing personal against them just ruins the mood of your relaxed commentary of the 67 hr grind
I recently started watching this, and decided to play my copy of the game again.
I went to recruit Articuno, and got it first try, and have been grinding away at the game for a while. As of now, I have completed the Eon arc, started what I think is the Wish Cave arc, which I don’t know how to do, and have every Friend Area except for the Legendary areas for obvious reasons.
How do you look at this long-ass linear game with randomly generated dungeons and think to yourself "I want to speedrun that"? lol
I’m pretty sure the first title in the Mystery Dungeon series is open for _heavy_ RNG manipulation, which isn’t used in part one from what I can tell.
If anything, he mentions making multiple Wish Cave runs just to recruit certain Pokémon, and it is discussed that Articuno is the best Pokémon for speedrunning, and I have to agree, not once have I died after obtaining my Articuno, and it’s immense power is fairly obvious.

Honestly, the people in call kind of ruin the run. Your voice and commentary is so chill, but it's constantly bombarded with random screeching and that loud obnoxious american lady which over 7 hours starts to get annoying

I think so, yeah, but some of them are version exclusive, and need special missions to be unlocked in the other version. Others are just a pain in the ass to get, like mew.
You should do a Recruit em All speedrun of Rescue Team DX on the Switch.
It has 418 Pokemon to recruit if you count only the first instance of Unown, but the game counts all 28 letters and symbols of Unown as each being a separate entry, so there's actually a total of 445 Pokemon that need to be recruited altogether, to achieve 100% completion.

This is like the brother of the Pokemon Stadium 2 Any% run.
Battling ACT at the base would most likely be within a pirated copy for when Gangar told everyone that the world is ending because of one pirate (only within a fan made or maybe actual anti pirate scene)
Guess I know how to get them all in the remakes now.
there are more in the remakes, they appear to do an extended dex, Togekiss is in the poison dojo, and trailer showed Lucario on team
I also first try recruited articuno on my first playthrough. I got Kyogre on my first try too, but I’m not far enough into the video to see if that happens yet
I think my last recent run, Articuno took 3 tries and Kyogre took 2.

Deity of Automation if you mean beating Rayquaza, you should look up a video of mine from over 2 years ago called ‘beating Pokémon mystery dungeon blue rescue team at level 5’ :P Might do it again someday, the run wasn’t great but it showcased how it was possible.

How come whenever you recruited some Pokemon (the ones I saw were Ekans and Tauros), you turned them down? Wouldn't letting them join be more conducive to the "Recruit 'em All" run?
Chris E You can only have up to four Pokémon in the party at a time and you can’t send them home until you complete the dungeon or escape orb. Since this is early into the run and I want to reach level 90 as fast as possible, I want to try and recruit things that also need more exp to evolve (since we can’t recruit most final evolution Pokémon as well)
@@WhomisDS OK. I haven't played BRT nor RRT, just EoD and EoS. I guess I'm just used to being able to send recruits that don't fit back to the guild.
Chris E Yeah it’s a pretty brutal mechanic for this run, will be interesting to see what they do about it in the remakes

How much do you think this could be optimized? How much estimated timesave _at least?_
And, how much timesave could a TAS with perfect RNG have? Estimated, of course.
With perfect rng, you could recruit every pokemon in first encounter as long as you had their area. Basically, cutting out most of the grind besides money. Though you could manipulate money drops as well, or high value items..
I'd say it'd cut about somewhere from 3-7 hours off the run. Which is tiny compared to the whole thing, but imagine how awesome instant recruits would look!
Well.. thinking further, it'd also remove the gummi/IQ stat grind for evolutions.. we're looking at a 10-20 hour cut from all things considered.

move linked doubleslap with move linked bubble, massive damage with ability to slow bosses all from innate moves. saves time and helps in boss fights especially bird fights where they have agility
him speeding through the rrt menu's is like when i start finally getting used to a few things in the menu's like in ff7r and i sped through the menu's a couple times and had to look to make sure i did things right and when i look back it was all perfect lol. anyone else have this happen XD
