    I liked the video, man. I appreciate seeing a review that actually mentions a temperature rating. I've been eyeing this thing for ages because I really, really hate trying to get into my sleeping bag in my hammock, and it seems like a great idea, but I was put off by Snugpak not putting a temperature rating on their website. High 20's with a solid base layer is perfect for me. For spring and fall camping where I live, I could probably get away with a light sheet or something in there. Super cool product, and I really appreciate the video.

    Thanks for the update. Saw your original review months ago and was wondering if you had gotten the improved version yet. I noticed the Amazon reviews have been MUCH better for the past couple months. The price has been around $50 on Amazon, which seems like a pretty sweet deal for what you get. I need to pick one up before the price goes up. lol

    Hey man. Two questions: if I order from the Amazon link you provided, can I be assured that I'll get the "new and improved" version? Also, I bought one for my girlfriend on Amazon last year. If it has the bright colored pull tab on the inside zipper and the shock cords on the ends, does that mean it is the newer improved version? This one has those, but the stitching on the seams still seems a little suspect to me.

    Thanks for the review. Great stuff! Could you confirm the main differences between the original version and the updated edition? I've recently bought the cocoon but I'm not totally sure that I've received the latest model. Thanks

    • @IrishZombieNation

      The main difference is that the updated version comes with shock cord, whereas the older version did not. The new version should have also come with a instruction sheet showing you how to attach it to a tree. Thanks for watching!

    test it in a cold night like -10 or -15 degree great video

    • @IrishZombieNation
      @IrishZombieNation  6 лет назад

      Actually this past January my friend Scotty test it down to -9 degrees Fahrenheit. He did not use a sleeping bag, because his dumbass forgot it. LOL. He was fully dressed and use two blankets along with this and survived. I do not recommend trying that, it could end up with you not waking up as a popsicle. This thing is definitely not rated to go down that low. I don't really put a lot of stock into ratings though, because those vary based on other insulation, such as layers of clothing you're wearing. Thanks for watching, appreciate you tuning in.

    The snugpak hammock gear has us brits in mind, do you know how well down performs at 93 percent humidity and constant rain? Yeah no. Lol 😂 our gear is a little heavier and a little bulkier but actually I was surprised at the pack size and lightness of the under blanket, it's about the same size as a jungle bag. Remember 10 to 12kg in a 50 - 60l pack is lightweight backpacking here.

    Hi Leo, First of all I really like the videos, and enjoy them alot. Just one question though, does the Underquilt need to touch the bottom of the hammock, or should there bo a air gap, between the hammock and the Underquilt? Ive heard two different arguments.

    • @IrishZombieNation
      @IrishZombieNation  5 лет назад

      It needs to be up against the hammock, but flexible so you're not compressing the filling in the underquilt once you lay down for the night. That's why I use shock cord to attach the underquilt to my hammock. It allows it to flex when I lay in the hammock and not tighten up the way other cordage would. Even with it touching the bottom of your hammock, it still traps the warmth of your body between the hammock and the underquilt. Hope I explained that right, and I appreciate you watching the videos.

      billy joe denny I've tested it down to 27°F, had frost on the tarp in the morning. Left a small breathing hole open with the zipper and didn't have any condensation on the inside, just some on the outside. The material held the condensation well and it didn't saturate through, just stayed on the surface.

    I noticed another viewer asked and didn't get a response... Is there a way to tell the difference between the original and improved version? I just received mine yesterday and the first thing I did was check the stitching. Seems pretty shotty. I don't want to pull too hard, just in case, but a light tug wasn't looking good at all. I have the orange pull on the inside zipper as well as shock cord on the ends... If this is the new version, I'm not too happy with the cost vs value... If you get time, I'd appreciate a response! Thanks!

      Sorry I didn't get back to the other guy, sometimes these older videos of mine I don't get notified of any comments on. It's been awhile since I had the original version, but if I remember correctly it did not come with any shock cord. The newer version does. I'm not 100% on that, but I'm pretty sure that if yours didn't come with any shock cord then you have the older version. I hope this helps.

      North Country Outdoor Guys No, at least not a very good one. It's too narrow.

    • @ChesapeakeHammockandOutdoors

      Ive never had a problem laying diagonal in mine. I've got this version and have used it down to 20° with the Snugpak TQ and a Snugpak jungle blanket I made into a 3/4 length UQ, and was toasty warm. I also added some shock cord and a biner to the outer head end zipper pull and clipped it to my hammock RL. This way I can zip up in it and its out of my face. I just did a video review of its water resistant properties on my channel if anyone is interested.

    Can you tell me which is better by snugpak the cocoon or underquilt . that is which one can go colder and which one is just better for a beginner.

    • @IrishZombieNation
      @IrishZombieNation  8 лет назад +1

      +SniperSurvivalist & Bushcraft Thanks for the question. My recommendation would be to go with the underquilt if you're just beginning. They both are about the same as far as temperature rating goes, however with the underquilt you also need a top quilt as well. I think going with the underquilt is better just for the ease of movement. I feel less restricted with the underquilt. It takes a little bit more effort setting it up, but I prefer it to being zipped up in the cocoon. I did a video on the underquilt as well, if you haven't checked out already I would suggest doing so. I had to tweak it a little bit to get it to work right. The way they tell you to set it up does it work very well, especially if you're going to have to deal with any rain. Hope this helps, if you got anymore questions please let me know. Thank you for watching as well.

      I cannott afford a top quilt but can a 45 degree sleeping bag unzipped on top do good i am looking at temps of at least 10 lowest degree i'd ever go, also does it include shock cord the underquilt. also i don't have stuff to mod anything by the way. and thx for the fast response.

    • @IrishZombieNation
      @IrishZombieNation  8 лет назад +1

      SniperSurvivalist & Bushcraft At I0°F I would not suggest just using just a 45°F sleeping bag as your top quilt. This all of course depends on how much clothing you're going to be wearing in the hammock. It's all about layering. At 10 degrees I would still suggest using an additional bag in conjunction with your 45 degree bag. Mummy style bags are the best. As far as the modifications go, the only thing I had to modify with the Snugpak underquilt was adding a couple carabiners and adjusting the shock cord. THIS was a $2 adjustment that required about an hour learning curve. The shock cord was included with the underquilt by the way. At 10°F for the low temp I would suggest using a sleeping pad such as a Therm-a-Rest in addition to the underquilt. Again, this all depends on how much clothing you're wearing when you crawl into the hammock. I usually wear a thermal base layer, and at least two or three layers on top of that to ensure I stay warm. That last layer being a heavy duty jacket, like an M-65 field jacket with the liner. Definitely have wool socks. Having a 45°F top quilt, in my opinion would require you to have another top quilt layered on top of that that is rated for 20°F.

      I also have a 3 pound wool blanket, by the way it is really a 40 degree but i say comfort is 45 kind of chilly at 40, also a mylar thermal blanket. you think all that combined with couple layers will do the trick?

      That's a very narrow-minded opinion and apparent that you didn't watch the video. I love Snugpak products and have been using them for years. However, they have had problems and have resolved them as this video shows. Don't run your mouth and listen before you speak.
