The "he he, I wanna do it again :D" was what really got me about this game. I've never felt that way about video game defeat before and it's so goddamn refreshing.
I love how much they nailed every single character! My favorite examples being, Artemis who’s just fed up with all the other Olympian’s crap, Diyonisus who’s just stoned out of his mind, Hermes who talks like “PUNCTUATIONDOESNOTEXISTAINTNOONEGOTTIMEFORTHAT,” and Hypnos, who’s constantly sleep deprived. Edit: I also was blessed with the ability to say, “Theseus… Theseus… where the F**K did you get a gun!?!?”
@Descartes' Apparition Idk the technicalities, but the reason why I buy the game on Steam is because they have this features, while Epic don't have this yet. On Epic, the game is 60% pricier because of that. Maybe its just a feature that Steam offers to developers. I also got Halo collection for basically $13 full price all 5 games at launch because of that lmao. Its just good business, its easier to sell the products to more people, if the majority can afford it. Edit: I kinda get why they sell Halo (and practically all fighting games) so cheap here, its because Halo is practically unknown in South East Asia. So they need to make it cheap, so people can fill Asia server with player. But Hades is single player game, and they do that anyway which is awesome!
It is even better when you discover that, in my country, "Bouldy" is translated to "Pedro", which is a VERY common name, and it's so funny (like, "boulder" is translated to "pedra" here)
@@sethamederat5841 I know we don't like theseus but we gotta appreciate the fact that he's very respectful and shit with big boi Asterius, so while I do wish we could romance him atleast his manlet bitchy king of a boyfriend treats him well, anf he seems happy too, so you know. I do want to give him a big smooch though...maybe if we go to Elysium as shades we could try and then make a run for it?
It's not discussed in the vid much, but on top of everything else Hades does a really great job of including LGBT characters. Zagreus is canonically bisexual, the romance options are male and female, there's a non-binary character, an asexual character, Achilles and Patroclus being the best couple. You can romance all the romance options at the same time if you want without any consequence. It's not considered cheating, there's multiple bits of dialogue where those involved communicate clearly that they're ok and happy with a polyamorous relationship. I've literally never seen that before in a game. Ever. It's fantastic.
the best part is that the characters you mentioned arent just made up of "GAY" or "NON-BINARY". i legit had to think a few secs on who was asexual and who was non-binary cause they are so much more than that and THATS the kind of representation i'm LIVING for.
Tbh if you read enough ancient greek myth you'll eventually realize, gods and humans would be down on each other no matter the circumstances. So yea, kudos to them for being accurate to the source material >:D
I was already dating Than and I'd started romancing Meg and Dusa as well, when I had a fantastic conversation with Achilles where Zagreus was like "I love so many people" and Achilles basically replied "I mean, you're a god. Pretty sure only Hades ever had only one lover." Also, when I was getting close to romancing Than, Achilles basically told me not to keep giving him ambrosia if I wasn't serious about it. As someone who has accidentally romanced characters before (I just want to be NICE), I very much appreciated it.

Really think it’s underrated how, in the first three zones, you get to hear 2 tracks per zone (maybe 3, if you include the first few rooms of Tartarus which have a fixed track, and barge of death has a fixed track). Each track is split in 2: the “normal” version, and the metal version. The harder and crunchier rock variant is reserved for bosses/minibosses, where it takes the preestablished melody that you’ve been listening to for a while now and then decides “metal time” and the music becomes something out of doom.
When you finish a room where you might have an option to encounter a Miniboss, you'll get buildup for the Hardrock version of the soundtrack. It reverts to the normal one if you don't visit Miniboss room or turns into metal one if you do
I saw the notification and went like : Ah yes a 20min video about my favorite game that I've been playing for a year and about how perfect and flawless it is, basically knowledge I already have but I like to hear it from yakko
everything that supergiant puts out is pure art. you didn't even mention these were the guys behind bastion and that game was a legend of its time. i personally liked transistor more than bastion but you can't tell me you don't get zia's wall song stuck in your head on occasion
Don't forget Pyre. While most people don't like it as much as the other two, I think you can already see the base of what makes Hades so great in that game. In particular the characters reacting/changing through you playing and often by fighting against them is very similar to Hades only on a smaller scale.
i literally started cheering when you brought up darren korb- hades is my first supergiant game but ive been obsessed with his music forever!!! you did a great job trying to summarize everything amazing about this game
Hades is like a cake with rogue-like gameplay being the biscuit, story being the cream, fishing being the little tasty bits inside, and music being the cherry on top. And all of it is presented on a silver plate levitating in mid-air being the visuals.
Hades is a game where, even when I've been through all of the story and think I've seen everything, I get off and I still want to see Hades, and listen to its music, and think about the gods, and AND.... dang, you know what I'm just gonna go play Hades again. Then maybe a few more times after that.
Alongside all this stuff you've said, this game also reminded me why I loved Greek mythology so much in middle school. It really reignited that spark with its unique take on the characters and story. That, and it makes me crave Mediterranean food. I had gyros for lunch like three consecutive times after starting this game.
I 100% this game yesterday with something like 100 hours in it and I NEVER NOTICED THE SHADE THAT SUPPORT US IN THE ASTERIUS/THESEUS BOSSFIGHT !? What an incredible game.
I spend over a hundred hrs on this game and it shocks me how addictive this game actually is. Even if it's the same run, the progression , balance, build variety of this game is just on such a perfect spot which doesn't overwhelms me/ punish me for not using a guide, nor does it feel repetitive/ boring. The story element is just icing on top of it, since I can't believe game like this could have such good writing, memorable characters and flawless voice acting you'd care for each of them. It is kinda sad this game has no dlc and is stuck with 4 stages. This game could have near infinite replayability if there're more stages. It is kinda like Dead Cell but with more engaging story and less punishing combat system that cater for all audience.
God, I wish so much for SGG to add some extra figures, we HAVE to get Hephaestus and Hestia as boon-giving gods!, And imagine if after a certain amount of story progression Nyx and other Cthonic gods start giving boons as well!!!, THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS

As someone who can't play a fighting game to save their life and gets overwhelmed super easily, Hades has quickly risen to one of my favorite games ever. Even being super frustrated getting really far into a run and dying, going home and talking to all the characters and petting Cerberus makes it worth it.
After seeing the trailer of Hades back when it was announced I quickly dismissed it as a bad rogue like. Now after watching this video I instantly bought it and am enjoying the heck out of it. Thank you so much.
This game taught me that with enough guts, determination, and constancy, you can achieve your goals and dreams. And meet people you never thought of befriending. Thank you, Supergiant.
Honestly the way this game helps the players is mindblowing. I first played this game on god-mode and after beating Hades twice I wanted to take it off. I started off Pact of Punishment with just one on each weapon and I choose the most manageable ones slowly and it took me awhile to get used to it. But now Im over a hundred hours in and I'm around 6 to 8 pacts without god mode and it was a slow progression but I had so much fun messing with the game play to make is fun and challenging to me specifically.
2:04 DUDE. YES. That song always brings tears, in the best ways. Its always playing in my house of hades. This game touched me emotionally in a way no game has since the likes of Zelda games and Dragon Age Origins.
The best thing about Hades is that it's the perfect baby's first rogue lite. Because of the requirements to get any physical progress is so great in every other rouge lite being so high a casual gamer would be in fear of them wile still wanting to play them. Hades being willing to give players rewards for playing makes it so new players can play the game for long enough to like them. I have no idea why any other rouge lite or ever rouge like ever considers doing the thing Hades did, but at least we got a good one now. They might even make this the new standerd for rouge lites.

You know what's nice about Hades? It's story stick pretty close to what the gods are like in actual written mythology. So Hades being how he is in game is actually pretty accurate
I've loved Supergiant ever since I played Bastion and then Transistor, hearing about Hades made me so excited to play another of their games and every bit of love I see for it makes me happy they're receiving the recognition they deserve :)

bought this game cause I was nostalgic for my Greek mythology phase with Percy Jackson, I was *very* surprised to see that I actually enjoyed the gameplay as someone who didn't seem to get into the rouge likes I've tried (sorry into the gungeon 😔). the characters already had a small soft soft as a knew most of the Olympic God's but it was super fun to see more, I've done some causal research just from curiosity and boy do I wish I could convert to Greek like it's a religion. haven't beaten hades as of this comment but I feel closer every time and that's definitely the charm of this game, as explained so wonderfully in this video. I've got to go talk to bouldy now cause I've played for hours and never knew he fricking talked lmao, loved the video too!!
The important factor here when it comes to dying in hades is that Every death isn't because of some horeshit gimmick, abused build or lack of foresight on the dev's part like in other games, it's usually due to a fuck up on your own part The game's great, amazing on all fronts and every time I die, instead of getting pissed off like when losing a game of league, I feel the drive to try again because "Huh, this time they almost died. I think i've got the pattern down, let's try this again"
I'll be honest I'm only here to find secrets that I haven't uncovered like the fan in the stands! Did you notice that they named the builds as well? The specific combination of different boons will name your build at the end of the run.
As someone that has never played a rogue-like, this was an amazing introduction to the genre. I literally put over 100 hours into it in like a month while working a full time job and am no where NEAR stopping, I’m obsessed with this game and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it
Alright.... listen to me yakko... every SuperGiant game is this fucking good. Please for the love of all that is good and holy in this world, play their other three games. Each one is a master class of whatever it is they are doing. On top of the fact that Darren Korb is an ascendant being that produces soundtracks beyond my comprehension. They are so damn good. Hades may be the best of the bunch, but a it carries a little bit of DNA from each of their other games. It has the gameplay of Bastion, the character writing of Pyre, and the level design and attention to detail of Transistor. I beg you... if you have not played their other games, please do.

@Descartes' Apparition It's a Steam/GOG thing

Pretty sure only Hades ever had only one lover."
Also, when I was getting close to romancing Than, Achilles basically told me not to keep giving him ambrosia if I wasn't serious about it. As someone who has accidentally romanced characters before (I just want to be NICE), I very much appreciated it.
Fuck yeah, that's awesome. For someone like me who doesn't like roguelikes, I'm pretty tempted to buy this game...
@@EnzoSM23 I really highly recommend you do. If you're just in it for the story you can activate 'god mode' from the get-go, which makes the gameplay a lot easier.

10:35 Yeeeeaaaaah, a LOT of ancient history has been de-gayed by historians. But, despite that, there is unfortunately no historic precedent for Artemis and her hunters prancing about the forest being lesbians together. Shame.
yeah but like...ancient myths have already changed so much over the centuries, what’s a little added gay action to make up for the straight-washing? 👀🏳️🌈
I mean, there’s no historic evidence for it, but Artemis totally could be an asexual lesbian.
@@pearlmcj Because Artemis hates the notion of sex itself as it gets in the way of her hunting. She is supposed to be a virgin, worshiped as a virgin, and remain a virgin.

Really think it’s underrated how, in the first three zones, you get to hear 2 tracks per zone (maybe 3, if you include the first few rooms of Tartarus which have a fixed track, and barge of death has a fixed track). Each track is split in 2: the “normal” version, and the metal version. The harder and crunchier rock variant is reserved for bosses/minibosses, where it takes the preestablished melody that you’ve been listening to for a while now and then decides “metal time” and the music becomes something out of doom.
random fun fact: the barge of death track is reused for the "Tiny Vermin" boss in the temple of styx
When you finish a room where you might have an option to encounter a Miniboss, you'll get buildup for the Hardrock version of the soundtrack. It reverts to the normal one if you don't visit Miniboss room or turns into metal one if you do

i personally liked transistor more than bastion but you can't tell me you don't get zia's wall song stuck in your head on occasion
Don't forget Pyre. While most people don't like it as much as the other two, I think you can already see the base of what makes Hades so great in that game. In particular the characters reacting/changing through you playing and often by fighting against them is very similar to Hades only on a smaller scale.
Every now and then my brain will randomly toss up "I see the spiiiinne of the woooorrrrllld". God Transistor's soundtrack is amazing

Man, this really sounds simmilar to kid icarus: uprising in terms of character and theme. I really should play it.
Greek and norse mythology just slaps that hard.
I played it. Is good
I spend over a hundred hrs on this game and it shocks me how addictive this game actually is.
SGG may yet add stuff to it, you never know. Hell Borderlands 2 got free dlc 6 years after release.

First video I've seen from you're channel and I loved very insightful, yet very funny, and entertaining you got me sold.

But really it’s so good I love this game and that it let me date death, thank you-
I've love every bit of this game to the infinity and I'm so happy you decided to make this video. ^^
Fighting Hades with extreme measures and hearing unseen ones of the first time was jaw dropping
This game became one of my favourites when I heard Euridacy sing for the first time. One of the 2 songs that made me tear up the first time I heard it
I wouldn’t mind at all if your videos continued to take longer to make, if that means they’ll all be as quality as this one.

Thanks to this video I bought Hades. And I absolutely loved it. Thank you.
The important factor here when it comes to dying in hades is that Every death isn't because of some horeshit gimmick, abused build or lack of foresight on the dev's part like in other games, it's usually due to a fuck up on your own part
The game's great, amazing on all fronts
and every time I die, instead of getting pissed off like when losing a game of league, I feel the drive to try again because "Huh, this time they almost died. I think i've got the pattern down, let's try this again"
I love how there are two voice lines for getting to hades with no boons
