But decades later when Todd Howard was leading the development of Skyrim, he simply told his team that he wanted conan, this team of relatively fresh faces most likely wouldn’t be nearly as familiar with Robert’s work, Nor did they manage to maintain the historical inspirations for the Nords despite a lot of the lead designers being the old guard from Morrowind, they’re not solely responsible for every design made, they simply act as quality control. It was a depiction of conan from people who probably weren’t fans of conan, as opposed a depiction by fans who’re very passionate about the series. The lore and look of the nords aren’t the only casualty, as the fallout IP and it’s heavy inspiration from mad max was also watered down with Bethesda’s additions to the franchise. None of this to say that skyrim was bad, mind you, the product we got was still phenomenal and has had a hard time aging, the art teams really captured something special, it’s just a shame we’ll never get to see that more insane, schizophrenic, celtic/norse vision of the nord homeland as described in Morrowind.

Although I doubt it was intentional, it kind of works in the story. Nords have become too Imperialized and some are looking to reconnect to the old ways. Galmar Stonefist is actually a bit of a history scholar behind the fierce warrior exterior.

They used magic paint on their bodies that protected them like armor, Talos wasn't all that important compared to other gods from the Nordic religion (which Bethesda got rid of because of pure laziness) and much, much more.

Well, that's what several centuries of cultural dilution will do to you. It's weird too, because like, the guy who *makes* the Cyrodilic empire *was* a Nord. All the Nord's too weak to hack it as "true" nords found nice lives and had kids with people, while all the "real" nords went out and died in glorious battle. Eventually, all that nomadic barbarian superculture becomes historical data, carvings on a wall, outdated information.
It's happened to the Dunmer too. Their culture is genuinely morally abysmal but, it *is* a culture, and by the time we get to Skyrim there's literally nothing left of it besides Neloth being a stingy prick.

hard disagree, Morrowind is a very overrated game. I would say it does only one thing better than Skyrim; writing. That's it. Not exploration, not combat, not companions, not DLC or expansions. Morrowind is still a great game, but not better than Skyrim, no matter how many rose-tinted gamers put it up on a pedestal
