I have always worked with patterns but never made my own. Where I worked, we had a person who designed and cut, we sewed the garment. A designer never shared his knowledge or mentored anyone. You are an incredible instructor. Thank you!
Can you make a tutorial on how to take the fabric off..im a complete beginner..n was wondering how they take the fabric off whilst still maintaining the shape.. I didn't see them drawing lines for their fabric but i do see them use iron🥺..❤️from Malaysia
@@catwomanvl05 I don’t yet but I am going to start a draping & pattern drafting series. I did do a video on how to alter your design & transfer it to paper. Check out my latest videos about pattern drafting . They will help
I love watching your videos when I'm sewing, they always keep me motivated and you're so positive which helps my positive confident energy flow! Thank you for making these videos :)
Wow, so helpful! I don't have a dress form, or muslin, and draping is probably far off for me, but this tutorial makes it seem like something I will be able to do! I had actually wondered how you keep it symmetrical. Turns out, you just do one side and flip over the pattern paper/fabric haha. Which sounds like a much better idea!
I can’t even tell you how much this helped me! You broke it down so well. It’s my dream to own a fashion line. And this is we’re I will begin! Tysm for this!
Great work. I have truly enjoyed this tutorial and find it among the easiest to follow; now I have a better understanding of basic draping and know how to get started. Can you plz do a video on who to drape a simple garment with a soft flowy type fabric, perhaps on the bias?
I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely consider making a video on draping with a soft flowy fabric on the bias.
@@SewAnastasia Thank you. I'm new to your channel. I have a couple of shop bought sewing patterns for tops, do sewing patterns and body forms work together?
question 🙋♀️ i’m a self taught seamstress. in your video you said “add seam allowance”. my question - i work with 4 way stretch fabric (spandex). should i allow seam allowance or not? what’s are the draping tips while working with stretch fabric thx
Hi, how does one breathe if you don't have ease? Unless it's a knit, or you are the exact size of the mannequin, it won't fit properly. Most fashion schools and books would tell you to add ease.
Great question. If you are making a tailored fitted bodice like this then it needs to be a tight fit with no ease. I am the size of the dress form. You always want to work on one that is your size or pad one out to make it your size. Ease is for lose fitting items. If it’s a knit then it is usually smaller then the form. I wore the dress for my engagement photos & it fit great! There are pics on instagram if you go back about 3 years. Also I have a BFA in fashion design!

Great video! I was always nervous to try this as a beginner but I think this is easier than cutting out pattern and fitting them. haha

Yes you will still need seam allowance. 1/4 or 3/8. You will need to stretch your fabric out the designed amount when draping with knit.

thanks for your really help. I too had to scroll snd to scroll ehere finely the demonstrating begins after chattering!

So useful video for the beginners.. Can u suggest which size of dressform ie 8/10 is needed to get started as a designer?
Most models are a size 6/8 in the dress forms
I make all my samples in a size 4 which is a 6 dress form
We are beginners (my daughter and i) and we got adjustable pinnable dress forms from Amazon
Love it❤
Thank you
T_T this has been so so helpful, thank you!
You're so welcome! Thank you for watching.
How do you create the pattern to sew with the pleats?
You need to transfer everything to paper. Are you in Chicago? I teach classes.
How do we get it to be rly form fitted ?
Drape it fitted
is there another name for draping tape? I can't find any?
Hummm try searching for 1/8 wide tape
