I’m a 59 year old grandma, I have been sewing all my life, I’m self taught. I can remember making doll clothes by hand before I went to kindergarten. I’m learning so much from you. Thank you.
Draping is not an easy task to teach. You found someone who consciously chooses her words and really expresses the intructions in a coherent manner! Thank you for this video. And it may be basic, but i can bound from this strong foundation! I really want to purchase a male body form...any good suggestions?
Exactly !!! I’m trying to work on design. And getting rid of the generic pattern use. But I’m a 5-11 male petite hahaha so I don’t have a bust! So yes knowledge on darts which she explained perfectly. Can you make a bodice for men?
There is no reason if you have the will to learn, that you can not sew for yourself. You can! I'm self taught. I've been sewing for 15 years. I learned by deconstructing garments bought at the good will thrift shop and then putting them back together for my daughter. I know my thumbnail picture is small but 6 years ago I made that costume for my daughter. Sewing is like putting together a puzzle. Thank you for your channel. I'm learning new things every time I work on a project. Now that my daughter is grown I thought I might do some selfish sewing for myself. Isn't it funny that I've not sewn a single garment for me? The thought never entered my mind. LOL Kids! Again, thank you. You are helping me find the passion for garments again.
Recently, I was working on a project and run out of chalk so I grabbed the white watercolour pencil to mark with. Watercolour pencils are now my favourite thing to mark with. They're creamy, mark easily, can be sharpened into a point, don't smudge with fingers but wash out perfectly easily AND there's a wide range of colours to choose from.
As a fashion design student, I had to make a whole collection based on draping last semester, and this video would have saved me A WHOLE LOT of crying on the floor with muslin everywhere, but hey I will definitely rewatch this video again and again to internalize all the tips Mrs Zaytoun gave us! Sidenote: I love her last name, because in arabic it means Olive! 😂😊
I am self taught and this was exactly what I needed to know how to make my own personal patterns without my old commercial t-shirt pattern. Thanks a million!
Your channel needs a sponsorship, you deserve a good revenue for the abundant amount of knowledge you have and sharing with us. I have learned over the past week from just your channel alone the proper way to do exactly what is necessary to run my brand. The one thing tho Zoe if you've covered it is , or not would be to talk about How to start a small collection, then allowing that collection to build steadily , instead of just trying to get the brand to center stage without learning the necessary fundamentals of financing a startup, or even established brand. That would be cool
Subscribed for this series! I'm self-taught, so getting all the basics hammered out clearly and simply is a blessing to both review and sharpen what I can do. Thank you!
I brought a sewing machine and honestly this information in a video for free is very thoughtful and really inspires and supports viewers. I appreciate this content, i always wanted to make my own clothes just life has been busy x
this teacher is really come through every detail please stay tuned with this type of vedioes . It really help my type of students ( college one).really a good teacher.
Thank You Ladies! My world has become enriched with DRAPING know how thanks to your teaching ability ! This was a now go zone for me, it always felt unable to grasp this concept despite watching numerous videos! Now I am going to be making up for lost time & having Fun playing with my newly found skill, thank you for sharing your great teaching skills! Cheers!
Wonderful video! I've been home sewing for 50 years ( eek!😄). Did not know how to do this. Another fabulous sewing influencer that I follow says to use a tweaked muslin as your pattern but I didn't know how to do that. I just found Zoe Hong videos today. Now to be part of my continuing lifelong learning lessons. 💕 Thank you so much!
Great tutorial I wish I had a instructor like you when I took draping. You explain so well regarding waist dart excess, princess seams, hand directions reading removing wrinkles. This was a total refresher for me after 3 years of not draping. Thank you
Thank you. I have always wanted a dress form but never had one. I sewed all my girls clothes and coats but I could never get anything to fit just right with me. My daughter bought me a dress form when I was struggling to alter her wedding dress. Well, it was a nightmare. But it turned out and she was beautiful. Too bad the judge didn't show up for the wedding. LOL It was during COVID at a park in 32 degree weather. He forgot. Wedding to remember. Anyway her form doesn't adjust and I happen to pick one up at Habitat for Humanity. They have been sitting there looking pretty for two years trying to figure out how to use them. Thank you so much for going into detail with this. I love lace and pin tucks and want to make my own clothes. I am a new subscriber. Too bad they won't let me sew for their kids. They say the dresses are too old fashioned. I guess they didn't care for the pinafores. 🤣
To my shame I searched for this video years after formal school and many years of draping. Lol However this video is both concise and what I learned in school for fashion design. Thank you for refreshing my memory ladies.
This was so beyond fabulous. I wanted to know all this decades ago. The instructions covered every question I've been wondering about since I was a kid. I learned to sew at three and my mother used to tell me how her own mother sewed everything without a pattern, purely by draping, and to me that was a superhuman accomplishment. Thanks so much for explaining it all so well. Now I know how to draft a sloper. I just need first to make myself a dress form.
Thank you, Myriah and Zoe. I don’t own a dess form and probably won’t ever get one but this video has helped me to understand some things about drafting a basic bodice pattern. I can see how all the skills work synergistically.
I don't have a dress form either but am inspired by the many ways I've seen to make your own. Search for videos. And Xmas is a time when many forms go on sale. If you can't find one close to your size, get the one that fits the best and then you can add your own padding (thing sheets of foam, padded bra and underwear, etc.)
I have always wondered what and how a form was/is used. Mariah is awesome 😎 and if I was a young chick 🐣 (boy or girl chick) I would have loved this and hopefully someone who doesn’t know it yet may come across this video, and become totally interested and become an entrepreneur in fashion. Who knows? But sorry it won’t be me. 69 yo and happily knitting socks between yarn arriving (Covid19) here so I can create garments. I love crocheting as well. Keep up these awesome videos and I can see you have so many in your Videos. I used the French Seam so much through all my years of creating my daughters son and nephews clothing on my home sewing machine. Take Care and Stay Safe
Thank you for this teaching. ❤️ please continue to make draping videos. I am just starting out and I learn better by doing hands on and by watching the proper execution of the process. Kimberly, McDonough, GA
Oh wow, good morning good afternoon good evening whichever it is whn you read the message, I am so in love with your work. I was browsing through RUclips and ran across your channel and felt this passion if that makes sense to get into your videos I am truly inlove, thanks for sharing with us!!
Thank you very much for doing this video. It really answered all my questions about draping period. You really made it look simple can't wait to drape a bodice on my dress form. Please continue these videos Zoe. I love them all.
Brilliant, thank you! My first ever look at the art of draping having only drafted flat patterns before. Very excited to see where this fitted top goes next. But it is opening my mind to so many ideas.
So, as you can probably tell from my profile pic, I am a cosplayer. I am pretty handy at altering existing patterns, but drafting my own would be super helpful. I've tried draping before but got so confused on how to get it right. This video is informative and explained to, dare I say it, idiot proof it! Which is super helpful for us amateurs! So thank you for this!! ❤️
love all your videos. This is I think the first time that I commented on a video of yours but I pretty much watched 80% of your videos. Thank you for doing this. More power and God bless! xx
Nice work. I've been meaning to give this a go as I seem to have a lot of side boob showing even with a modern FBA. I've found a bust to armhole dart has worked. I don't think I've ever seen a shoulder dart before though!
Thanks for this video! I really hope the series continues. Your explanation is so clear and it really starts from the beginning, which is super for beginners like me!
Hi Zoe, this is an amazing video and really helpful in guiding how to construct the bodice for the beginner. I am totally appreciated for this tutorial and hoping to see more such wonderful videos. Thumbs up to both draping teacher and the hostess!!👍😀
Thank you so much for taking time to explain how to do this. I don't like shop bought patterns and would rather design my own to suit me personally but didn't know where to start
This is the best RUclips video I’ve ever seen , I can’t compliment you enough, you explain so well, you use humour you teach perfectly and your accent is lovely 😊 thank you and please do more .
This video is so great I’ve been wanting to learn how to drape a form and this is super helpful for me as someone who has never done this before at all. So thank you keep the videos coming!
Yassss, these videos are giving me life (and making me sound like I'm seriously studying) Can you two do a draping workshop one day, I will sign up and be the first one waiting at the door
I wish I had someone to "share" this with! This was awesome! I did learn a few things. Thanks so much for doing this series, Zoe! and thanks to Myriah (sp?)!
I love your YT series! Very professional and informative. I'm a fan. Can you please recommend where to buy a professional dress form like the one used in this video? Many thanks!!
Ive heard you need to press and block the muslin before hand? To have it straight and trued for the drape. Is this true? If so, can you help me understand the importance of pressing muslin and when it is necessary? thank you!
Dear Zoe 💕 Is it possible for you to make a video on fashion buying and trend forecasting? I understand that it might not be exactly your realm but if you know an industry professional who you could interview it would be wonderful! I know you already have so much on your plate but I thought it doesn’t hurt to ask 🙈. Thank you so much for everything you do and selflessly educating all of us online!
Thank you. This was great. I've signed up for a draping class that starts in a couple of months and can't wait to get started. Looking forward to the next episode and seeing how to get this to paper pattern stage.
That was great lesson! Every step was easy to understand and follow! but i have a question. When working the back side of the bodice i have noticed that you didn't pin the horizonal part of the bodice (shoulder line). Is it not necessary??
Thank you!, thank you so much!!! Zoe and Myriah for teaching the basics of draping. It looks very challenging and thorough. Yet I am ready to drape and make my own clothes.

@@bgonzalez137 Male bodice is very simple and straightforward comparing to female bodice. It's not a similar challenge.

Awesome idea! I used kids chalks for years before getting 'actual' pencils lol
oooohhh genius!!

Very informative, excellently illustrated
Thank you!, thank you so much!!! Zoe and Myriah for teaching the basics of draping. It looks very challenging and thorough. Yet I am ready to drape and make my own clothes.
