I'm very sorry, but sound tests comparing switches that are located in different areas of the keyboard are not reliable. Even the same switch can sound different depending on which area of the keyboard it is in. This doesn't make sense.
thats why I kept them in the same row. Atleast in my experience rows usually sound the same. Take for example the board im typing on now, all my switches in the same row sound the same. it isnt perfect, nothing will be, but it gives a good idea of what to expect.
@@BokehhBob thanks for taking the tiem to do the test, but it does not give a good idea of what to expect, sorry. The pitch always ascends when you move from left to right. Is Canglan that much higher in pitch than Eva and Milky white? You sorted the switches in pairs of 3 to always ascend in pitch?
It’s a moot point. YOU ARE TOTALLY CORRECT first off. Let’s just get that out of the way first. The reason it’s moot is as I am sure you know: you can’t ever really know how it’s gonna sound till you fully build it in your case, with your caps on your desk. So think of these videos like the lady at the grocery store handing out cheese samples. Bob you should put the switches on a tooth pick for a thumb nail lol
Appreciate the effort but with the switches in different locations, this test doesn't amount to much. Like you said, it would take a long time to do if you did this with them all in the same place and just cut back and forth, but that would be much more useful comparison
I just started using some of these and they are incredible. 0 stem wobble and very good factory lube. My only complaint is they all sounds rather similar and clacky. I'm hoping for different variations of sound profile and even tactiles in the future.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I know that some people might not be happy with the ¨sound test,¨ but it gives us a better idea what each switch sounds like. Quick question, does HMX make any tactile switches? I really like their clacky sound profile, but I prefer tactiles over linears.
no tactile switches yet, but theyre in the works. Thanks for the comment and appreciate the support. Some people just don't realize everything is absolute unfortunately. Any sound test is for a general idea as there are so many variables when it comes to sound.
Unrelated, but earth tones is such an underrated set. I have it on my Typface Univers and it bangs. Also Xinhai and Clouds are the best bois of the HMX lineup imo lol.
If I have to pick one it's Xinhai. It's nice that they have so many that are similar but slightly different though. If you have a selection of HMXs, you can really fine tune a board WRT pitch and typing feel, while remaining in the same basic ballpark.
Would've loved to have heard the comparisons from the same keys. Different areas produce different pitch. For example, the Deep Navy sounded a bit deeper than I'm used to hearing it. Everything on the right side of that keyboard sounded deeper. I appreciate the effort though 👍
Ya there are so many different variables when it comes to sound tests and I didn’t have a bunch of time to put them together. If i do an update one I’ll just do the same 3 keys.

Hey. I was thinking on getting a lucky65 which has a flex cut plate. And I have been told that boards with that are more for deeper sound and I wont achieve that clackyness. Could I also get some advice from you? Thanks
I don’t have experience with that board, but generally if it’s stuffed with foam and had a bunch of flex cuts on the pcb and plate it’ll be hard to make clack because the holes in the plate and pcb.
I have a Lucky65 and I'm trying to make it sound more clacky at the moment. I'm using Akko Matcha Greens, which sound pretty clacky, but I found it really helps to remove the foam in the bottom of the case to increase the higher frequencies. Removing the case foam has not revealed any ugly case pinginess, just made the sound more resonant and high-pitched. Overall, it's a really decent sounding board. I'm planning on buying some HMX switches to increase the clackiness of the build. It's probably possible to remove some of the foams or other dampening layers between the PCB and the plate as well, but I haven't played around with that yet. There is also a FR4 plate that you can get for the Lucky65. The regular plate is PC, so the FR4 should raise the pitch of the sound in comparison. It's something I'm also planning on trying in the future. I think it's definitely possible to achieve a clacky build with the Lucky65, it's a great (in-stock!) board especially at that price.
@@BokehhBob Oh okay, interesting! I was under the impression that FR4 was a stiffer material and would help get a more high-pitched sound in comparison to PC. I’ve also heard sound tests where FR4 usually sounded less “thocky” than PC or POM.
