  • Check out this first gen ('73-'75) Pontiac Grand Am! Powered by 455 cu in (7.5 L) 250hp Pontiac V8 4 barrel with the rare 4 speed Muncie M20 wide-ratio transmission. The Grand Am name was derived from two other Pontiac cars in its lineup. "Grand" signified the Grand Prix luxury and "Am" for the Trans Am performance. The car was designed as America's answer to European luxury/sport sedans and available as a four-door Colonnade sedan or a two-door Colonnade coupe. A total of only 43,136 Grand Ams were built during the first year of production. It was loaded with a six-way power driver seat; power windows, locks, steering, and brakes, a rear defogger, air conditioning, console, a tilt wheel and sport mirrors. Those with a keen eye will note this grand am appears to have '75 front fenders along with honeycomb trans am wheels mounted on a pair of hefty rear tires. Watch this cool looking 4200lb Pontiac luxury car shift through the gears en route to a respectable 14.87 et while the 1000lb lighter turbo VW GTI with similar horsepower gets the win. #grandam #vw #gti

    I'm more impressed by the fact that it has cornering lamps.

    It's especially rare because a 455/4 speed was never made

      But they did make a 400 4sp and it's a Pontiac block, so technically you could say he did a factory rebuild and just bought the wrong parts maybe?

    My 73 GrandAm had a 400 4bbl 4 speed dual exhaust, but was not very fast. It handled like on rails with BF Goodrich Radial T/As.
    I loved that car and miss it dearly. It was only 4 years old when I bought it, but was already beat to hell, and didn't hold up to my near adolescent abuse.

      I had a ‘74. 400 4 bbl auto early 80s. Opera windowed. Owned it 4 years. As a stupid 20 something, I destroyed it. If I had known then .......

    I could of bought a 1973 grand am back in the late 90's it had a 455 in it and it was in good shape except the nose cone had a big cracks in it from sitting in the sun and dry rotted it being that it's one of those endura bumper front end pieces and I was not sure if it was replaceable or fixable but the guy who had it bought it brand new anyway I wish I would of bought it because it was a hell of a deal even though the interior was ok the body was great and the nose cone is what scared me away

    just so you know, pontiac didnt produce a 455 grandam with the 4spd. 4 spd with the 400 only. and dont call the 400-455 a big block.

      People just can't wrap their heads around the fact that they are just a Pontiac V8 Block....lol. Olds is similar in that the Heads interchange between the 350, 400, 403, 425, 455. Then Buick for sure has a "smaller" V8 and a very similar design "Bigger" block, that has bigger heads. Interesting how all of the divisions evolved in their V8 programs.

      No it wasn't, he has to bog it otherwise it just spins thru first . Most new cars with sticks you have to drive like that too.

    • @joequillun7790
      @joequillun7790 Год назад

      @@SuperBoss351 I beg to differ. I've run enff Pontiacs at the track, with street tires to know, a "little" wheel spin loses less time, than a total bog. I'll bet he was barely at 1200 when he dumped the clutch. With that heavy car, and probably 3.08s or 3.23s, even a 455 couldn't recover from that technique. I'll bet he lost over 1/2 a second. If he came out at 2000-2500, his tires might've spun a slight bit, but his 455 would be further up the power range. Once it hooked up, hit the secondaries, and accelerate quicker. It works.

      @@joequillun7790 i have a 400 4 speed and 455 4 spd 73 grand am, 300 other cars, been at track my whole life, i know the gentleman who owned car, he would come out soft on drag radial it goes 13.13 108. 342 rear gear. i was not bein a dick just tellin you i know how he drives..

    • @joequillun7790
      @joequillun7790 Год назад

      @@SuperBoss351 Never assumed you were trying to be that magic. Just sayin he still could up his Rs a bit more outta the hole. Or resist hitting the secondaries, until the car hooks up. It kinda sounded like a mis-adjusted secondary air valve, coming in too soon. Can't believe he would "blow the tires out", on the primaries, at 2 grand. Maybe he needs better tires, or less pressure.
      Nonetheless, it's still a cool car, specifically cause of the 455, stick, and 3.42s :)

      @SuperBoss351 Год назад

      @@joequillun7790 motor is healthy, secondaries are wired open, so easy to bog and has pretty good hp and with those tires it does go up easy, on street hes more in gas at track too easy to break with prepped surface. 377rwhp for that car is prety good, i went 12s in it but i drive better than him. he loves it tho, we have more fun with our mostly stock cars than modded ones, reminds us of old days..
