Note: I've over fertilized my Marigolds, and they are not blooming: I learned that Marigolds prefer poor soil in order to bloom: and I trimmed mine back too. I hope they bloom soon, so I can try lots of these ideas!

Here's a yummy Raw recipe for Marigold Bars (Adapted from Ascension Kitchen's recipe):
    Servings: 8 Time: 20 mins
1 heaped cup marigold petals, plus extra for garnish
    ¾ cup grated carrot
    ½ cup shredded coconut
    ½ cup almond meal
    1 cup almonds
    ¼ cup goji berries
    ¼ cup sunflower seeds
    ¼ cup pumpkin seeds
    2 tablespoons chia seeds
    1 teaspoon vanilla paste/essence
    ½ cup coconut butter
    ¼ cup maple syrup
    1 teaspoon white miso
1 tablespoon orange zest, plus extra for garnish
Place the coconut butter and maple syrup in a jug, and rest it over a bath of hot water or on a hot stove to soften or liquefy.
Roughly chop the whole almonds in the food processor. You want to have a few chunks in there because you are going to pulse together two more times, and you don't want it turn into almond butter.
Add all other dry ingredients, except the flower petals and goji berries, and pulse till combined.
Pour the coconut butter and maple syrup into the mixture, and add the vanilla paste, pulse again till combined.
Add the flower petals and goji berries at the end for one final quick pulse.
Transfer mixture to an 8 inch square cake tin lined with parchment paper, use the back of a spoon or clean hands and another piece of parchment paper to flatten the surface. Press slivered almonds and more marigold leaves over the top to decorate, and perhaps some extra orange zest.
Freeze to set, cut into 8 large bars to serve.
    Enjoy!

    Hello Stacey,
When my house burned in 2013, all of my flower beds around the house were destroyed when we rebuilt the house. We moved back in to our hose in October of 2014. My father passed away in January of 2015, he left me a small inheritance which is what I used to rebuild my front walkway and flower beds. I had decided when I was selecting plant for it that I would only put edible plants in it. I figured if I’m going to put the effort into my flowers that I would get not only the beauty of them , but the medicinal and nutritional value as well. My dad always had flowers growing in our yard, so this was also a great way for me to honor his memory as well.

Yes absolutely i wrote it down. I have had flowers in a lemon poppyseed chicken salad.
It was delicious. It was back in the 90's when i work in medical records the nurses made it for us all to have a large luncheon together. It was a hit so much so i and others asked for the recipe!
There were dandelions and oddly enough even though they are bitter it was very tasty because of the ingredients worked together it made it perfectly ok.
They made lemon flavoted french bread with a dusting of confectioners sugar then home made lemon poppy seed dressing with grilled diced chicken breast.
Thank you for all your wisdom! I love it!

It’s a common question: Are marigold and calendula the same? The simple answer is no, and here’s why: Although both are members of the sunflower (Asteraceae) family, marigolds are members of the Tagetes genus, which includes at least 50 species, while calendula are members of the Calendula genus, a smaller genus with only 15 to 20 species. You could say the two colorful, sun-loving plants are cousins, but marigold and calendula differences are notable.

I have always done the same tons of marigolds for the reason they are great companion plants and they just damn well make me smile. And have put them in salads through the summer along with other edible flowers, borage, tiny pansies etc. But this year I also grew some chamomile for the first time and started saving the flowers, learned a lot from you on that, but I also started drying the marigold petals. So I have mixed them with the chamomile. So will have tea over the winter. Apparently the combination of the two is extremely good for insomnia. So I will soon find out. The dried mixture of the two looks so beautiful in the jar as well. So sad it is garden season coming to an end but it is also so beautiful in many ways.
