My G10 still works great. I’ve bought newer and more costly cameras since getting the G10 new in 2008 but I still like taking it out for the day. The shots it produces are very pleasing to me. Thanks for the videos.
Just bought a used G12. Looking to get my walk on doing some street photography 🚶🏾♂️. Love the image it produces and the film sims you can play around with. Light, small and character for days. This and my little mini 3 pro will make for some fun chill outings.
Yeah I keep looking at the others in the G series but haven’t pounced yet. The G12 seems to be quite popular and I do like the idea of the articulated screen. Thanks for watching mate🖖
I recently got a G10, it's a really cool little camera. Sadly mine has a considerable amount of the lens covered in fungus, but exactly because of this I paid only $15 dollars for it, so I'm willing to accept it as "character".
Bought mine in 2008(?) as a “learning camera” before getting a DSLR (for the lenses). Love the hot shoe for an external flash, the optical viewer, and most of all the external settings options. Previously I had a point & shoot that became as useful as the first kiddie cameras because the articulating screen (wired connections back then) broke. The G10 meant I wouldn’t be stuck in the last setting like that old one PLUS I could start learning more about manual settings and their artistic capabilities before investing in the DSLR equipment. The G10 also let me start playing with an adjustable external flash which gives you better lighting options-direct the light vs straight on and you can use softening attachments for even more options. I took it with me on a trip to Europe in 2019 as backup and I’m glad I did. After a number of days on my feet lugging around my DSLR and bag, my back needed a break so I took my G10 on one of the tours instead. Thanks to all the manual settings and the ability to shoot in RAW, I was able to get a MUCH better shot, in a tricky lighting situation with restricted access, inside a Cathedral, than friend did with their much newer, fancy point & shoot! While I was limited some (lenses make a big difference), I was still able to get enough good quality shots that I don’t regret my choice that day.
I bought mine in 2010 from a professional photographer that was upgrading all his stuff. He called me the other day and wanted to buy it back. No dice. I absolutely love this thing. I am not a pro, but it does literally everything I need. Sold off my A-6000 and others and kept this
I like ccd sensors generally speaking. My first dslrs all had ccds. I’ve not actually used any of the newer Powershot models but I’d love to get one to compare with the G10. Thanks for watching 🖖
I inherited a G9 from my father in Law when it passed away. I also shot a G7 for a while before the sensor got problems. I like the colour except that the Dynami range is quite poor, meaning each time the sky is in the frame it gets blown out. If you want to see a nice and cool sensor which is not mainstream, try the Fujifilm XF1. that Pre-Xtrans sensor (EXR CMOSi) s really something
I find with the g10 -1/3 or 2/3rds I s sufficient in most situations to protect the highlights. Speaking of Fujifilm, I have actually looked at the pre xtrans models and they are the only Fuji cameras I’d consider since I didn’t like the raw files from the xtrans cameras I have used. Is the Xf1 the same type of sensor as in the x10 being from around the same time?because that’s one I looked at aswell as the later bayer sensored Fujis like the XA7. Thanks for watching 🖖
I had the G10 back in the day and bought it as an upgrade to my previous G7 which i kept and didn’t sell, to this day. It was my first ‘serious’ digital camera and was taken by the build quality, controls and styling. Really enjoyed it and travelled extensively with it. Great to bring back older cameras. Irony being, as you’ve said, the files still look good for social media. Great video; thankyou.
Ive had a G10 since it came out and I still love it. I use it for everything from landscapes with filters (via a lensmate adapter) to in the pocket for street style photography...
I have a G10 and to be honest, I had no idea what I'd bought. I Scuba Dive and wanted a basic, dedicated camera with housing for underwater instead of an action camera as pictures on those things come out pretty bad most of the time. I bought this camera of a second hand scuba gear site over a year ago and only just got round to properly researching it. Your right about the battery, I charged it up over a year ago, had a little play and put it away and it's still showing full charge. I'm looking forward to capturing some images this weekend to familiarise myself with the unit before going underwater with it. It's got a lot of features for a small unit. We will see in a few weeks when I scuba in Lanzarote, how well it fairs underwater.
@@Dennis4Videos It went ok I think. Some of the images came out fine, others not so good. I decided to use the camera in full Auto mode, mainly because with Scuba there's a lot of other stuff going on, current, buoyancy etc. Both the housing and camera performed well but I found the massive change in temperature between air and water decreased the battery life massively. This is also because when diving you can't use the viewfinder, you have to use the screen to frame a shot. I actually missed some great footage of Ray's and Moray on my last dive because I hadn't changed the battery and the camera was dead less than halfway through. Schoolboy error... Having said that, it's a lesson learnt and I still have a few usable pictures of my dives.
Love these for urban photography and street photography...good job digicam Dave...I picked up the canon s90 and love the images I getting especially for the fun and for social media
Unfortunately they seem to be increasing in price over the last couple of years. I got mine for under £50 because it had some damage to the rear screen which I fixed for about £6 if memory serves. Now they’re around double that in good condition 🖖

Or you can guide me to which one is the best thank you for your time
I have never used a camera that had what I would consider good audio quality without the use of an additional microphone. For what you’re describing, since audio is a priority, I’d recommend looking at something like the Zoom H1n handy recorder for the audio and pretty much any camera that can shoot 1080p🖖
Found my parents old G10 in the cupboard the other day, everything seems to be working perfectly except for the set button! I can power it up and view some old photos but the FUNC / SET button doesn't work so I can't click on anything. Any way you think I could repair it?
I’m not sure, I can use a camera just fine but repairing them is something else entirely. In a situation like yours it could be as simple as the thing needing a clean. Personally I’m of the opinion that if something is already not working, you can’t really make it worse so I’d have a poke around or if you know someone who is handy with electronics, let them try. Thanks for watching, I hope you get it sorted out🖖

Worth pointing out that the PowerShot S95, while in the smaller true point-and-shoot style body, still has some pretty good performance while being the last CCD compact of its body (it's a S100 spec/feature wise with the S90's sensor). I typically carry a Pentax MX-1 around. It isn't CCD, but Pentax's colors with the Q series and the MX-1 (a Q in a different shell with a fixed lens, buttons and software are even the same) are great along with a great lens. I am hesitant due to being afraid of dust getting into the lenses of my compacts and the prices going up and up, but I have my camera to use and not just set on a shelf or in a cabinet/drawer.
Hello David, I'm sorry I think I need help with this Canon G10 camera, my camera zooms itself when the camera starts up. Is there any damage to the engine or from the software? please help
This camera predates the age of things like Snapseed or Lightroom social media was still a mystery back when it came out . Many were sold to photographers switching over to the original 5d from film as a backup camera . They used to be easy to come by for next to nothing but thats changed as well. So while it’s not great for lowlight with a fast shutter it is really quite fine for longer exposures as you said. The subsequent g12 was a very different experience than the g10 . The g10 images have special colours right out of the camera . I have all kinds of better cameras but it’s still a favorite of mine . Dropped mine on a concrete floor once and it took a screw driver and a few minutes to reseat the power ribbon and it was good as gold. So this was a premium compact camera made to replace film cameras back in the day and in its native iso can take beautiful pics. Still the only PowerShot I actually preferred over it was the original G1x with its almost apsc sized sensor it was one of canons other different special cameras . Hard to find now but if you can get one for cheap go for it they are great for lower light not amazing but very capable, Many cameras of the last decade and a bit were counted out because of video quality . Now we are at the end of the consumer grade compact camera era there are many little gems used waiting to be discovered.

Hi, what do you think about the g1x (cmos) compared to the g10(ccd) id prefer the g1x for its larger sensor but i wonder if it has the look i like from the g10
The g10 was made as a companion back up for the 5d classic and is extremely juicy in terms of its colour rendition in good light . They look quite unique but the G1x has a much bigger sensor and the lens is very sharp . If I was gonna shoot with just one as an all day pocket camera it would be the G1x.
