That guy who lifted the dumbbell knew what he was doing. He positioned himself well, fixed his grip with lots of time, felt the weight, used his legs... true beast.
Most impressive to me was the older black gentleman. He got that thing off the ground and nearly did it. You never know how strong someone is until you see that. This is a hard task for sure, and I've lifted weights for 45 years no less.
Yep, i've worked in construction a couple years, and some really thin and short guys were really strong. I think it has more to do with muscular density and nervous system efficiency. The guy in shorts that was obviously really pumoed from the gym couldn't even move it lol
He was in fact more impressive than the guy that lifted... have you seen the other guy size? Problably 2 mt height and 100kg+ this guy was small and almost did it.

Given his initial 'brace', and seemingly lack of leg drive, it doesnt look like he DLs. Beast, but judging on the lift, looks like its just raw upper body strength.
@@slayerbot1394 Guy was pretty big and tall the suit hides away some of the muscle though. I reckon he was one of the only guys there who weighed more than the dumell.
@@davidblaine3004 Matt is not 6'2" 😭 Whatever a guy claims, reduce by at least an inch, sometimes 2 or 3 (yikes, but it happens). Matt is 100% anywhere from 5'11.5" to 6'0.5". I mean, he himself doesn't even claim 6'2" if you look at his videos, he claims 185 cm which is 6'1". I believe he's actually 6'0" though and just claims morning height, with shoes, rounds up, etc.
this is such a dope video Matt. please do one of these types of videos once a month where you challenge the public to do something health and fitness related and pay ppl if they can complete the task accordingly.
It's interesting to see that someone who's clearly strong like the guy at 6:50 doesn't stand a chance for the simple reason that he's too short and his fingers can't wrap all the way around.
Dude was like 6'7"-6'8" with massive hands, he was lifting it regardless of what he was wearing, and that suit couldn't hide the fact that he was built.
Crazy challenge, I tried it at home with my normal bench press bar and I actually made it on the second try 🎉 Now I really want to try it with your dumbbell 😄
It'd harder with the dumbbell. I think it's a remade "inch dumbbell" grip is too wide. Challenge originally was to overhead press it by person who made it
proper technique + good body strength + legs/foot grip in proper position The main point for me is he used his another hand properly for whole power to lift the Dumbbells. Check his left hand in the video.
Six years ago i used to hit the gym really hard, i had like 81-83 kg and my dead lifts were a maximum 115km, for 8 reps, and on the way to the 8th rep i always had the bar almost slipping my fingers , plus usually the bar is very thick and very hard to grip . 100 kg ain't no joke , even when i was doing squats i didn't even look at the 100kg load because it scared me for what i was about to endure 🤣maybe some people are going to laugh at this , but for me it was massive and i was looking really good 💪
Good show mate, I had an accident lumbar disc bulging when trying to lift the same, newbie should take precautions before lifting such heavy weight, its permanent damage and I regret it..
When I saw the constable, I had to laugh. Not because he couldn't lift it. I applaud him for trying. But, it reminded me of the great Ricky Gervais talking about his older brother, when a constable dropped his ticket book, whilst writing them a ticket. The constable's hat fell off and a pack of smokes in the bowl of it revealed itself. To which the constable replied to Ricky's brother "I'm sure you've always wondered what we keep under our hats", to which Ricky's brother stated" Well I knew it wasn't your F**k'n brains"! Never gets old.
This video also offers a look into the fact that big muscles don’t make you strong. Lotta guys with big muscles couldn’t get it off the ground and a lot of old dudes who probably haven’t lifted in years were pulling it up.🙌🏼❤️
i love how the people who expect it less, actually did the best. That older beastly dude was confident but couldnt even get it off the ground hah. Shows he doesn't work on that grip strength like he should
cause taller humans has bigger hands and longer fingers that why it easy to lift when u can wrap your hand and fingers over the dumbell doesn't mean they have stronger grip strength
very cool then just tuned into Eddie hall as he does one in each hand for 7 reps think that , matches up with needing a 200-300 deadlift with his being 500
im a new sub and i went through a marathon of your vids in the past 2-3 weeks (still going). keep up the great work, matt! hope you and your family are doing well
I have suggestion for you Matt, if you are going to do this again. Make an see through box (acrylic). Make it arm length deep. Make a hole on top, wide enough for 1 arm only On the side you put another box with money in it and a dispenser with flap so the two ends of the dumbbell will open the hatch and dispense the money. Place another place on top of the dumbbell with hole, so the dumbbell cannot be tilted Also they won't be able to do without the dumbbell. Place the dumbbell at the bottom.
Wow that's a challenge fair play to everyone who tried especially those who got so close but that bloke made it look effortless. Awesome content as always your no1 kent fan x
6:58 wow, this ordinary guy can lift it almost a half of it, but look at previous guy with a big muscle, even he can't lift it even a little. I think this nerd guy would be a strongman later 😄
It really is about technique more than brute strength. It's 220 lbs, not 500 lbs. Having a tight grip, letting your legs do most of the lifting and keeping your arm straight and locked. We have a young lady in our gym, she's 17 years old, and she is able to clean and jerk 240 lbs.. Yes it took a lot of training and she's using 2 arms, but she's also putting the barbell over her head and locking her arms out. She will be the first to tell you that much of it is technical. We don't encourage her to do this very often because she is young and her body is still developing. Lifting this heavy at an early age can cause a lot of problems later in her life. PS- before anyone says anything, no, she is not using PEDS.
