When I went to get my first guitar, I walked into a local guitar store just looking for a dreadnought. The guy helping me out put the dreadnought in my lap and said “looks a bit big.” And then went to the back of the acoustic room and brought me a FS800. He handed it to me, and I’m telling you it fit perfectly into my lap. I felt like Harry Potter getting his wand, complete with the gold light and wind blowing my hair. I walked out of that store with that FS800. One of my best decisions ever.
I have this guitar in natural finish, bought it used last year, the original owner said for the past 4 years it's mostly inside it's case and true, I noticed the spruce wood looks brand new "whitish" so i let the guitar sit in indirect sunlight for about a year now. Man, the top color changed from whitish spruce to honey gold spruce. My advice is if you can, let the wood breathe.
Nice! I have other guitars that got more 'honey gold' over time too, even though I kept it in the case most of the time. Have to say I like that 'aged' look better though(:
Gerry Z. Great video. I bought one. I thought the action was high right of the box so I lowered the nut and saddle a little (not a professional job by any means) put some high end strings on it and it sounds great.I like the folk size and the neck is very comfortable.
Best $200 USD guitar on Earth (since the 700-series). It's hilarious that Fender tries to pretend that the CD-60 is even half as good-sounding as this.
Hi Daryl thank you for the review, I'm watching it AFTER I bought me a FS800 for Christmas. I own a couple of classical guitars and an Ovation electro-acoustic but wanted a good acoustic sound without any electronics. In the store I tried a bunch of expensive guitars in the acoustic conditioned room and my favorite was a Martin LX1E also know as Little Martin with solid sitka spruce top and laminate sides and back, one of the cheapest Martins. I was willing to pay the $500 but the employees were busy so I decided to come back another day. Outside of the room the had entry level guitars for students, and I have recently read about the Yamaha L series and the quality of their construction so I tested the FS800. I was very surprised! I'm not expert, but it sounded to me as good as the Martin! It is incredible to find a solid top guitar in this price range, it only costs $185 and it sounds amazing right out of the box. Full sound, nice tone and excellent action, I don't think there is any setup needed. I love the fact that they are called the "Poor man's Martin", but it is no joke, this chinese made guitar probably goes thru an outstanding quality control from Yamaha and it is the best guitar you can buy for the money.
@@PhillipHolt-f9r - LMAO.. Do you ever wonder why millions upon millions of people go to McDonald's and poison themselves on a regular basis. You're clueless and incompetent.
Great review! Been eyeing the FS800 a while now and what is holding me back is the high action as you mentioned as I prefer a lower action guitar. Well, I stay in KL and I am not confident of any luthier around here who could lower the action but preserving the "Yamaha" sound. Thoughts?
Thanks! Hmm I think there is some filing of the bridge involved, so not a good idea to do it yourself... I think there are some great luthiers in KL? Heard some names before but I forgot haha.
I picked up one used about a year ago and had been loving it, then brought it to my local luthier, $20 for a setup, he lowered the action, and now not only do I love playing it more, but it also sounds much better! Not different, just better!
This is a guitar you should never buy online without playing first,,,,,you shouldn't have a problem finding them out there....I played 3 before I bought one. They're all different....mine has a near perfect neck and fret job.
I have a Squire Strat that is a nice guitar but have come to the realization that Asian guitars are made for Asian fingers. The nut and strings are just too narrow for my American meat nuggets. Great value though.
Every guitar should come with a professional setup as part of the purchase price. And if the professional can’t bring it up to a certain playability level the price should be refunded. There’s too much unplayable crap out there.
Great guitar. However the very beginning of the video that sound is not really the acoustic guitar that is in the video on top of the backing track, it's an electric guitar that the player is "sync playing" with (like lip syncing). You can tell by the electric guitar jazz over tones at time mark 0:11 thru time mark 0:13. The rest of the video is great and I'm not sure why the guy in the video wanted to fool people in the first part of the video. 🤔
Jesus love you all and wants a real and intimate relationship with you. He wants to give you comfort and peace. He is knocking at the door of your heart waiting for you to let him in. He is the only one who can fill that empty void you have in your heart. God Bless!❤️✝️🙏🏼

best explanation of a reaction to getting the perfect fit ever !!!! LOL nice
What about the high ass action
@mackenziesigmon898 the fs800 is cool but I like a large scale like the fg800
@TheSpeedyr6 if that's your case the Allen wrench is the best route to take.

Definitely agree with you about the colour.. Sadly i can't get that finish here in my local store 😢

Yeah it's really quite a steal!
@Matt_Dylan Wow thanks for the insight on both models! I don't have much experience with the CDS60.
@Matt_Dylan Good call! ✌🏼
In another RUclips comparison I thought the Fender had a sweeter tonal character than the Yamaha.
@Matt_Dylan I'd rather sell all those and buy one and only one higher-grade yamaha like fg1 or fs1. Just saying.
It sounds great. I can't wait to find one and try it out.
@@JohnMoseley you'll love it. The jumbo sounds better than the Epiphone hummingbird.
I’d love to hear you play it again. But with the action lowered!

Great playing. One of my best friends in the US is Dr. May Tay, she is also from Singapore.
Oh that's cool! Thanks very much(:
im learning to play on this. glad its not just me in thinking i have to press hard on the strings
Try changing the strings to D'Addario light gauge it should help lower the action without having to tweak things too much
very well done review, subscribed!
Thank you for the kind words!
Hey man, great video. What would you prefer Yamaha FS800 or Orangewood Oliver M?
Can you do a comparison of the FSX800C and give us your take?
I got the ice tea burst. I had to take the bridge way down and not it's hard to put down. This will keep up with anything else I own or have played.
I want a dreadnought so I'm going with the FG800 but I fell in love with Yamaha acoustic guitars. I like it better than Epiphone.
You've lost your mind

It does sound great but the high strings are a deal breaker for me. Are they trying to hide a fret issue?
Not that I could tell by playing it! It's for shipping durability I believe.
@@daryltay7768please adjust the action and play it for us again!
Is the high action because the nut and saddle need lowered, or because the neck angle is bad?
Do you know what kind of case this would fit in?

I just picked one up today. Action is low on it. No adjustments were needed.
could you do a video on the mahogany fs850 too?
Between this model and Eastman PCH01-OM, which one is the better guitar?
Is the string spacing closer together than the FG version?
Hey, so the FS is has a 10.0mm string spacing while the FG has an 11.0mm string spacing.
