As a construction builder in Amsterdam for over 30 years I am impressed what you are doing. And I would love to make a 3D impression of the chateau if only I had more information. I'm not much into social media and instagram so this is my only way to communicate with you. I use C4D as program to make 3D drawings and have made a lot of them over the last 15/20 years. If I can help you out in any way with this, please let me know. You can use a little help.

Oh my, what a wonderful offering. I would love seeing a 3D drawing. It would be so interesting to see the past and future chateau in all her grandeur. She’s pretty rough as she stands, but she’s going to be beautiful again…this is getting so exciting.

How many memories we as viewers already have about a place where we've never been! Every corner of the chateau reminds me of an old episode of the vlog. Stories like the bees in the bathroom, the corner toilet, Nick taking down the inside tree, the arches, the outside table, the garden view, all of that. What a fun journey this is.😊

If you are lacking optimism at the moment,, keep watching Dan’s videos. He sees the potential beauty in this absolute ruin of a building. To see past the back-breaking labour and the $$$$ to get to the finish line, only a true optimist could continue on this endeavour.

I will be buying a fixer upper myself if things work out 2024!
      I may need advice with stone or brick;
      I think you’re the guy…
Here is my question to you.
Will you be leaving the wood on roof on inside or plasterboard it? You going to leave some stone in area (s) inside? It’s okay to have a rainy day rest!

@@jonmould2946 he could, but he's said previously that he wants to get it back to very similar to what it was previously, and also there are regulations involved, with the sale, and it's a historic building, so big changes to the outline need to be scrutinised, and agreed beforehand, whereas keeping it the same is a lot simpler, beaurocracy wise.

Hi Dan, I like the way you make the viewer feel welcome to peer over your shoulder as you work! Thank you very much for the extra effort! When I was a little girl of 5 years, my favorite thing was to go around the block and visit the tradesmen (roofers, carpenters, and cabinetmakers) at work. Later, I watched the masons build new walls, as the WWII ruins disappeared, and new houses grew all around us. There is much to be learned by watching what others do. My dad was a painter ...

Must admit there’s been times where I hold my breath watching you, hoping you don’t get hurt…wobbly scaffolding, putting floors down, pulling up heavy stuff before you got the winches. Love watching your progress with the help of your friends! You’ve done a terrific job, and I’m sure you’re proud of your achievements! Great tour, fabulous garden in the making! Awesome views from the top floor yesterday. Happy subscriber here. Watching from Canada. Bless you!

I, too, had been unsubscribed when I checked!! This has happened to me on several of the channels I watch regularly. I resubscribe but then keep finding myself unsubscribed again. In each case, the creators say its nothing they are doing, so I can only suppose this is RUclips for whom it must serve some purpose (probably financial). I urge anyone who has experienced this to contact the creator whose site you have been unsubscribed from and make them aware of this. Numbers of subscribers are evidently important to them as they are always keen to increase our numbers!!!

My dad was a construction electrician, and did all the repairs around the house. One of my earliest memories is of him breaking up a concrete path with a sledgehammer! I always enjoyed watching him (and my grandad, who was a bricklayer and plasterer) build things. They weren't afraid of hard work. I get the same sort of pleasure watching you and other chateau vloggers create beauty out of ruin. And it's great to see the workers, rather than the aristocrats, enjoy the fruits of their labor! The pinnacle of egalitarianism: William Morris would be proud.

An a great grandmother I can tell you kids grow up so fast. It would be nice for your boys to live in the chateau while they are growing up. I see a billards room and gym in the basement etc.

The views are magical as you say, I totally understand how the vision of what the chateau was and what it could be again is driving you. Put some plastic sheet over those windows on the finished side. It will help a lot with the wind and rain. You can make a very basic temporary frame to staple the plastic to. No need to attach to the walls, just use some wooden wedges to fit them to the openings. Having lived in some pretty derelict apartments in Chicago, I can tell you it makes a huge difference. Then start doing the same every time you finish a level.
And thanks for the tour. I'd love to see a model or computer tour. Somebody in the comments offered to make one.

Dan, what an amazing project for a one-man effort. Working from the top down once you get the walls stabilised. A roof - one of three or four - will really help. After that, the remaining floors and then the windows for drying in will be an accomplishment in itself. Maybe you could organise a 'work week to simply get the rest of the debris out of the way and the chateau emptied of every bit of loose rock, brick, metal and wood. Having functional piles of reusable stuff outside will give you so much clear way. We wouldn't be able to do much, but we could just help in the whole tidy-up operation and also become 'hewers of wood' or labourers. Just so amazed at your enthusiasm and vision and really wish you well as you progress the dream.

I keep re-realizing he's doing this massive job primarily by himself--Nick and Cameron invaluable, of course; but the point being that most often these places are rebuilt by employing contractors for the bulk of the heavy lifting--and this video serves to remind us just how much is involved in such a project. The installation of the roof will be sort of incredible to watch I think, as much for the probable dangers as the intricacies of the build itself--can't wait.

Bon matin, Dan. 9h18 here in Québec city, Canada. Thank you for this tour, I enjoyed it very much, it will help for us to have a sense or where you are in the Château. You are dealing with rain and here we already have a few inches of snow, the "famous white Christmas" you would think. Wishing for you to have better weather soon, it will be easier for you to work and much better for your health as well. Anyway, see you on the vlog, and again, thank you for the tour. - Rosalind -

You read my mind. I've wanted to get my bearings around the chateau. That was perfect. Love the idea of a virtual side bar. You are fantastic. Thanks!

There are so many elements of Chateau de Chaumont to love...the turret, the stone, the colours of the facade, the large square rooms, the stone balconies with their beautifully wrought iron railings, the views...no wonder you fell for her. You are doing a wonderful job at breathing life back into her....although it is tedious and painstaking, your efforts will be rewarded multifold. Love watching the lives and daily vlogs....cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
