What a fantastic interview. So honest and open about what it's really like. I believe that you two guys are the best that has happened to Megadeth in a long time. I love your positive attitude and that you are 100% down to earth while playing in one of the greatest metal bands in history. Dystopia was a killer album and I know that the next one is going to be awesome. \m/

You two guys make it even easier being a Megadeth fan. I have been a huge fan for over thirty years, but since Dystopia came out I became a bigger fan than before. I am really loving this current lineup and in my opinion Dystopia is the best Megadeth album since Rust In Peace and this is this best lineup since the Rust In Peace lineup. I really look forward to the new Megadeth album.
Dirk is such a charismatic and likeable guy. I'm sure you guys will be able to outdo the glorious previous album. Don't stop believing, hold on to your feelings!

The worst part of writing a song is to convince yourself that you wrote a good song. Sometimes, you're playing and you think the song you wrote is bad.

The red light of paralysis is so true. When I record bands.. Sometimes I just tell the musician doing their part that we're just doing a warm up but I'm not recording. Sometimes magic can be caught this way. But it only works a few times then they catch on haha.

Dirk seems to be a great guy to have in a band, very talented and with a good vibe.
Kiko is the only Megadeth guitarist that has a (instrumental) song with just his solos, as opposed to trading off with Dave. That is how highly Dave thinks of him. And what a glorious track it is. (Conquer or Die). I can't wait to hear the new album.
AlwaysSomething I don’t think that’s the only song without a solo from Mustaine. If I remember correctly, symphony of destruction only has Friedman’s solos. And that’s just the one I remember now, there might be more songs that Dave doesn’t solo. But Kiko is immensely talented nonetheless, we Brazilians are really proud of him!

Megadeth is always be Mustaine's band. So, every riff or melody must sound good to him before it is put on a song. Maybe Kiko will feel more relaxed when composing song when he is in his own band.
Anyway, I love this Q&A because Kiko and Dirk are really cool. Their chemistry is also great.

Im a bedroom guitarist and have been playing for a long time now, but whenever i listen to some people on the internet or in music in general, i always think im not good enough to show someone my stuff, even though i enjoy what i play. To know that such great players still feel the same as me has made me feel better about my playing. So thank you :) Ive been a big fan of yours for a while now and what impresses me about you other than your beautiful guitar playing, is the humility you show, not a trace of im a big rock star Lol. Dont change Kiko and thanks for everything you do for your fans and for taking the time to help other people become better musicians.

Very good content, can you show on some level how the creative process works for you to compose?
I am a composer, for example I always create a melody first and then start to fit a lyric on top finding words that translate the feeling that the harmonies of guitar are screaming
Dave Mustaine is Megadeth's main composer. It has always been the case. He writes the lyrics & the main riffs (some solos too). Kiko is the current 2nd guitarist in this band. His job is to echo/amplify/emphasize/respond to the rhythm parts and add solos parts. Not that it's easy...

I've found also difficult to sell and distribute the record when it is done, when you are an independant artist.

Creating songs can take me forever, so many different possibilities and ways to attack things, eventually I just have to be happy with something. It's hard to compete with legendary Guitar Hero's. Composing a masterpiece is hard work but playing it live is the fun stuff.

Já que seria estranho (e engraçado) tentar entrevistar você mesmo, só falta um integrante do Megadeth (se ele estiver bem de saúde, que é o que todos esperamos)... :)
(plot twist: ele entrevista toda a equipe envolvida diretamente com a banda (roadies, técnicos, produtores etc.), só pra deixar com mais expectativa)
Dystopia foi uma surpresa pra mim, na minha opinião é o melhor trabalho do Megadeth até hoje. As composições ficaram ótimas, a voz do Mustaine em um tom menos agudo ficou muito melhor, os solos não preciso comentar (fantásticos), partes no violão ficaram muito boas, e a bateria destruidora.

Very informative,. For some reason as soon as the record button is hit, it takes several attempts to get into the relaxed zone from thinking too much.. I hate thank you when I'm playing, it takes away all the emotion of passion.
However after several takes I start getting frustrated....but relaxed.
But I am very disappointed as I expect more from myself for I have been playing too long to have anxiety.
How do you get past anxiety once the record button is hit?

Please guys, the next has to be a least as good as Dystopia. (no pressure) We need many mean solos and heavy and aggressive riffs. I feel like this album could turn out to be within the best 5 albums of the discography with the current terrific line-up. Good work guys, I'm looking forward to hearing at least a song soon. Thanks!
