car wrap vinyl
One tip if i may, I worked for a company that made display booths for trade shows, i have applied hundreds of yards of a similar product , don't take the backing off all at one time fold the backing under the vinyl then put down one or two inches of the vinyl start smoothing it out as you pull the backing away , give it a try it really works well,
vince rappa Yeah. And try to use a magnet to hold the vinyl in position! :)
Or a FEW magnets that are really strong!
I was thinking the same thing. Quick question, with your process, could it become a 1 man job? Also what do you recommend for getting around a roof antenna and sunroof? I was thinking keeping it sunroof open and cutting away that piece from the inside.
It says it right on the title, applying for the first time! what ever way they would've done it doesn't really matter here, the end result is what its all about and it came out good. Now Those cars are what we need here! Flashback to the el camino/ford ranchero body style.
Why is every one bitching and complaining?? They said its there first and it came out good. Usually things first time come shit.. Good work boys..
Why are people complaining saying that you did it wrong? The end result looks good enough and to think that you have never done it before means that your pretty brave for even taping it and putting it on RUclips.I watched this to get some tips as im about to do the same to a mates Honda bonnet and yes i have got the courage to do it now. Thanks CSM :-)
just when you thought putting a phone screen protector on was difficult
Totally true!!
+Rebekah Codlin This is very true!
+Rebekah Codlin its easy to wrap if you know what you are doing
+Rebekah Codlin i will suggest to expend in a better quality wrap :D it will come nice I'm totally sure. Remember that old say: "I'm not rich to buy a cheap Prices" ;) Good luck
I just binned 3M made in china , don't by Chinesse , go Avery or a cheap paint job...ps actually it was that bad to use I would of been better off wall papering it lol...
If anything, this video shows how forgiving the vinyl wrap is on application.
bob saget lol
Agree
Go figure. your name 🤣
Love the way PETE gets scared when you open the bonnet at 1:29 :D rofl
Thanks, most realistic video! I am about to attempt to wrap my car. Watching you guys was great! seeing you make the mistakes and corrections will help me greatly!
Custom spray mods
Don't feel bad. Then guys who made negative comments on your video are idiots. They fail to recognize the title of the clip "First time applying vinyl wrap". Very informative video because I can see where the potential problem arises. Overall, you did good for first time.
Thanks
Its MIGHTY Car Mods, mate. The episode about painting wheels is great.
The no name brand mighty car mods
666Owen shut up, how is he trying to be like mightycarmods? He teaches us how to paint, not how to change an engine...
CS Studios someone's triggered
I hate it when people bully this channel, I've learnt so much from it and people who think they're funny try to make the channel look bad and it makes me mad because I know how much hard work it would be to make a video like this
it was a joke dude....
CS Studios tru
Nice job guys, a tip. strart from one side of the hood, dont peel all the backing paper and use strong magnets to hold the vinil in place, once you finish one side remuve the backing paper from de other side and keep it lift as you aplied the vinil with the sqeegee.
Regards from mexico city.
They struggle at the beginning and still pulled it off! That's why it says 1 time vinyl wrap . I'd say great job!
You did a very good job for first timers... Pay no mind to the negative comments. There's always a few haters..not matter the subject. Good Job!
Thanks for the video guys! This gave me the confidence to try wrapping my car!
i haven't tried it yet ,but will soon man you guys are the only ones i have seen on you tube that make it look difficult
Looks like a pretty good quality wrap given it was reapplied a couple times. Good end result. Anyone knows the vinyl brand?
I gave them a thumbs up for actually finishing the job nicely. They did say first time ever which shows. Technique was definitely lagging but it worked in the end.
I know how long it would take me to do this successfully. I'd be better off mowing lawns and using the money to have pros do it.
I'm not really concerned about having a carbon fiber look, but I like the simplicity of a vinyl.
Seeing as you've had this stuff on the car for a while now, have you had any issues with the life expectancy of the vinyl wrap?
Fading, peeling or anything?
man these people are hella hating you guys did good on your guys video the hood looks awesome
I do this type of job for a living and no you don't need fluids , but you guys did well I just don't see why the two of you did it because that's a one man job
Not bad for a first go however let me share my technique with you, it will save you a lot of messing around. Basically you need to use application fluid, "right on" is a good brand. If you use fluid you can just squeegee the bubbles out no problem. You want to get the vinyl down as quickly as possible to stop any dust getting under it and showing through. You shouldn't keep pulling it back up because it creates static electricity which attracts dust particles. The right on fluid will allow you to physically position the vinyl even whilst its stuck down, then once you're happy give it a bit of heat gun to secure it. Obviously don't apply fluid near the edges.
Hey Lee Rees. Sincere question to your comment, not trolling you, I want to learn. I know that application fluid goes with some foils so that it could be squeezed out and foil to be sticked. But if it's that "bubble free" wrapping foil (with air channels) which has it's own adhesive, wouldn't this fluid mess up that adhesive?
kobajage yes. Vinyl with air channels is not made to apply using the wet method. So Lee Rees your tip is wrong. It probably won't hurt the adhesive but there are risks.. Problem here is that the guys are using low quality film (calentered) which has bad re-postitioning and slideability features and the wrapping techniques are basically compitely wrong.
Lee said don't get it near the edges , meaning don't get it on the adhesive . He is using the liquid as a lubricant to held smooth out the material.
this isn't that type of wrap,i suggest looking into what you claim to have experience with before STICKING YOUR PROVERBIAL FOOT DIRECTLY INTO YOUR MOUTH.
you spray this car with the product you mentioned you would have a very expensive ball of carbon wrap in your garbage can.
Lee Rees thank you
Hats off to you guys you done a brilliant job, I've watched a few vids on doing vinyl wrap and yea at the beginning it was a bit of trial and error but it's your first time so that was expected however you end result was perfect, so for all those little nobs on here hating and leaving nasty messages GET A LIFE
With All Due respect, if anyone is coming on this video to find out how to wrap. This isn't the way. They've made it really difficult from themselves. Looks abit amateur to me. (no insult applied)
+NFS Customs still turned out well
They said first timer repeatedly. Sooo... Yes amateur. Still not bad.
Were you not paying attention they did say their first time wrapping it 🤣🤣 fool
moron,1)read title 2)watch video 3)assess if video correlates with title.
it does ,wow that was easy.
so you are exactly what i stated,a fucking moron.learn to read AND understand what you are reading
Spraying a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water on the panel makes the adjustment and shaping of the vinyl easier. Lesson i learned from the experts.... Give it a try
Whats up with all the dislikes! that looks like a professional job!
Thatcher N i thought me ex wife was a wonderful person.
Nah so many errors, You don't apply material the way they did in the beginning, you don't force air out of wraps, you NEVER touch a wrap with your bare skin/hands, and you never use that much heat. Wraps contract an expand in hot/cold conditions, the way this was applied it probably lasted a month if that, the change in temperature causes the edges of the wrap to finger and come up.
All these ppl talking shit, but I really liked the out come .thanks for having the balls to post a video of something that you've never done before. Thanks
lmao, dude scratching his balls at 4:55 hahahaha :')
😂😂😂
just a tip I discovered when wrapping a truck, that the little plastic smoother leaves scratch marks, I put a sock over mine and used it that way, worked like a charm and didnt leave scratch marks
you need a felt on the squeegee to stop scratches on the vinyl.
For a first crack, bloody fantastic job. 😎
I have a wrapped my whole body in this stuff and lost 40 kg and can run a quater mile 10 seconds. But now I have a skin condition.
Well done guys bravo , I have done my, but I end up having couple of wrinkle “ small one ” but in general it look good on my. I use same stuff
This looks doable but idk why shops charge lol 2k to do this lol I will be doing this myself 👌🏾
+D_Lambily Depends where you go. The most logical reason behind it is the sheer cost of material..
We use a wrap called hexis where the basic wrap costs around £12 a metre and the high end is around £45-60 a metre. All depends on what colour, finish and style you want.
Its a skill to do though, these guys got there in the end but the way theyve done it... it wont last long.
+SuPrAmAd101 how do you make it last long then?
Prep is the main thing, Hexis suggest using there cleaners & degreasers (they wont warranty the vinyl if you dont)
They stuck it down with a squeegy, once you place pressure on the vinyl you activate the glue, and pulling it up multiple times will weaken it.
They never heated in the vinyl, this means it will shrink and lift. Heating in is probs the most important step
+SuPrAmAd101 Wrong, re-positioning of a vinyl wrap is better to pull and relay down to avoid bubbles. Shut your dumbass up.
why would you pull up and relay if you have bubbles? If you lay it properly you will have minimal if no bubbles to start with.
Secondly the vinyl is more than likely to be easy apply and will therefor allow you to work the bubbles out without lifting.
I work for a signmakers who do vehicle wrapping on a day to day basis, what experience do you bring to this comment?
Ideally, you want to heat the whole piece of wrap(sized about 30-40% larger than panel) and use what I call a "drop wrap" technique that envelopes the entire panel (as much as possible). From there, work from the center outward as needed. It helps to have 2-4 people helping you.
Thanks for putting this video guys :)
looks good. yall make it look easy. it helps to have two people. I messed up because it's just me
can you apply vinyl wrap to a hood that has flaking clear coat ?
Matthew Cooper have to feather edge the clearcoat first and prime the spots or it will show through
LOL as a vehicle wrappen in the UK you guys with no experiance should use 3M carbon it has an air system so you do not have to keep lifting the vinyl or try a company called Hexis, you should also be laying the viny with a felt edge applicator to make sure you do not scratch the vinyl. Nice job!
Why you guys trying to ne marty an moog from mighty car mods??
Because they are awesome.
+customspraymods im guessing you don't wrap cars often, your meant to use soapy water to help apply. using the soapy water stops it from sticking completely enabling to lay it ez and not running the risk of stretching the design.
+115zombiehuger interesting, im planning on wrapping my car. do you mean soapy water on the sticky part? or just on the outside to help with smoothing it on?
+Rebekah Codlin yes you spray the sticky side till its soaked then a little on what you are sticking it to. then lay it from top to bottom making sure not to catch air bubbles if so you should be able to re lift carefully and place back down.then using a Wet edge squeegee push all any left over air bubbles to the outside, if you can't then using a scalpel and put a small hole in then press flat. its much easier if your covering the whole panel other wise you will need tape to hold it central to the panel.
+115zombiehuger that's for tinting dumbass
Great Entertainment guys...and a grande recovery..Top Marks
doing it in a wrong way. you should not remove the whole protector thing. remove little by little while fixing the bubbles. like how i put screen protector on my phone
that's like considering yourself a space shuttle pilot and astronaut because you flew a paper airplane.fucking moron.
100% yes I just did it with one, you dont want to overheat the vinyl wrap or it will stretch and leave warped marks. A blowdryer is a perfect amount of heat.
I feel like they're trying to hard to be like MightyCarMods.
that is a good point!
nicolas dibari they're inspired by mighty car mods. Trying to be like mcm is another form of flattery
thats what i just wanted to say
jackstutorial ss I to got an mcm vibe from this
Yah I noticed that too. I need to watch their channel again
If you put water with soup on the stiky side of the wrap and on the hood it will be so much easier so that you don't have to remove it alot ;) I tried it and its garenteeeed
Thumbs up if you can't even put a screen protector on your phone let alone this
Screen protectors are notoriously difficult. Wrap is nothing like that
putting one on my s7 edge was hell. it took me almost an hour and 3 free replacements to get it right.
Would you believe wrapping your car is easier? Most definitely. Weird but true.
I suggest to keep the vynil firm in position with some magnets and then start peeling a small part on a side of it, once it is stuck on the bonnet you go on removing the rest of the backing.
Thanks for making my ears bleed with your intro
Sorry bro
good thing i saw ur comments before the video has loaded! XD
No shit. "But loud shitty into music is so great" 🤔
QUBE9000 Everything bleeds and hurts fast on snowflake pussies.
It would of been 10x easier if you guys would of start the wrap from right to left do half and leave the other half with the back paper on the vinyl that way you can have more access to work with the vinyl but at the end it looks good I like it
i would not use this video as a good "how to" video rather as a cool project video cause my job is a vinyl wrap installer and lot of things could do to make it easier but! great job for first time im impressed!
just added 50 more horse power!!;)
and you know thisssss Maaaaannnn.
looks awesome..good job guys
@@customspraymods please help me what sizes are the wrap when I buy some :(
Anyone who put a thumbs down doesn't have a sense of humour. The end result is fuckin mint boys. Good job.
I've griptaped over 200 skateboards in my life I think I can handle doing a vynil wrap
LOL
reaching level 1000 in black ops 3 doesn't mean that I'm a trained military soldier
think of this,a skateboard is maybe 6 inches by 2 feet long,THIS IS 5 FEET BY 5 FEET LONG AND NOT FLAT.
Never tried wrapping before but I think it's safe to say these guys are winging it.
Good video which shows everyone what not to do when applying vinyl wrap. These guys are clueless.
so what do you do and what's wrong with what they did ?
I'm a vinyl technician and what they are doing is completely wrong! 1st, the way the peal the backing paper made it completely difficult. 2nd, the way they heat and pull, will definitely have heat stretch marks. 3rd shouldn't have the bonnet open. No need. More likely to have dust
It's good way to remove dust by vinyl sheet. Goodjob boys
at 4:48 dude in bottom screen scratches his nuts. lol
Wow you can't even keep control of the car at the end because that carbon fibre hood made it so light! lol. Great job guys!
Adding vinyl makes your car 200hp more
first time ?? you guys did a great job !!!
there are people spoiling the sheets even on the 10th try !!
This is too painful to watch lol
darvey evans stfu
You guys are a bunch of pussyholes I imagine you'd shit yourselves scared in person haha
That's a cool looking car/truck thing.
never film the first time you do a wrap and put it on youtube as a how to vid, ffs.
@mitch6500 you will want to sand it and make it smooth first, because ur clear will continue to peel under wrap causing imperfections and possibly bubbles
easier then applying a screen protector
Nice job guys. Well done.
Mighty car mods wannabe lol
Sokol Zahiti How many MCM wannabe's have 1million + views Ohh and more views then the MCM Vinyl wrap video. Go watch their one done by a professional.
You mad Man?
customspraymods it doesnt matter lol you completely stole their whole video setup and everything.
No one owns it mate.
customspraymods Turbo Joda dosent approve that statement
Very Good for not much experience guys, top job. Wouldn't take long to Train you up to fully Wrap cars.
No water. noob mistake!
You'll fudge up perfectly good wrap as soon as it comes to curved surfaces, and you'll be getting cracked tension lines in 6 months of sun. Thumbs down!
yea they did mention it was their first time...
say what...? it seems that you don't have any idea how it should be done.. Never _water_ with vehicle wrapping. The vinyl was clearly a low quality ebay stuff, with good film, its easier and definitely doesn't require water, not even two people to install the hood.
Not that I have wrapped my own car....
Of course water is a requirement. Your argument is invalid.
***** man, water is not used in car wrapping.. Did I understand something wrong or what you mean?
Invalid response, please retry.
What a lucky Novice, if any one want to do that easy way is just peal edges from one side stick them on with heat gun then gradually peal the sheet from inwards and stick it on with heat gun, don't go for it at once go bit by bit
lol these guys dnt know wtf they doing
FISHING WITH PHAM no fuggin clue
FISHING WITH PHAM why what did they do wrong?
you want to avoid heat gunning as much as possible. Heat gunning makes the material more "stretchable" but this also can cause over stretching which will make the wrap's edges wrinkle over time.
MistahMeanah absolutely everything! From
Start to finish, all wrong
Well geez guys, that might just be the whole point of the video
Hey, that's a neat job there.. Love the finish a vinyl gives.. I would like to know, what is the shelf life of a vinyl wrap and how does it take up wear and tear in rains and hot climate conditions. Also, if i'm getting a custom paint vinyl for the car, should I get the the surface laminated as well, for longevity?
Thanks..
Woh I've seen cars wrapped and this is way sloppy .. haha keep practicing
YEAH! Did you just blow in from stupid town or something?!
Much faster now!! Looks good!
Oh god, wrong! wrong! wrong! This is painful to watch Your technique is just so not correct
In the U.S. the car is a Pontiac G8, the el-Camino style was going to come out next before the government had gm eliminate pontiac. Good job on the wrap.
Doesn't matter if wrap is scratched the great thing about a wrap is it usually heals itself after application as long as there is no memory on it
I don't have one of those heat guns, I do however have a hair blow dryer, will that do? Thanks
wax & grease remover wont damage the paint, its even used for cleaning dry paint surfaces before the next coat. Its good cause it cleans & then evaporates away
Only took them 10 minutes, i'm impressed!
This seems to be gaining popularity. How does this wrapping material stand up to car washes and the weather elements?
well done guys looks brilliant
looks way cooler than paint and easier to apply. im sold. is it water tight?
yeah it is, i put it on my mazda 3. It was on the hood and roof, had it on for about a year. Never weathered at all.
@Ujwal Trivedi
It does not make it lighter because its not REAL carbon fiber its just for the appearance.
Finished product looks great that's all that matters. Your technique will improve over time. Most of these critics live in there mothers basement and never do anything.
lololol you guys definitely did this the hard way! I can't say I knew what I was doing the first time either! At least it turned out fine!
Incredible amount of patience to do this! :)
It did. But the rock went through the vinyl and chipped the paint as well. I brushed touched with some paint and its hardly noticeable.
LOL. Thanks for the video fellas'! I'm trying this for my first time on my CL55 AMG Kompressor- wish me luck! lol
PS, the cool thing about plastidip is you can do things like grills flat black & it covers all those irregular surfaces that would be impossible with a wrap.. but then you just match the vinyl wrap to the same flat black or whatever color plastidip you are using.. (it comes in lots of colors now) .. So vinyl wrap the hood, boot, doors etc.. and plastidip on the bits and pieces etc.
thanks for sharing the video guys
you are a legend at painting ... the vinyl on the bonnet looks good but you guys done it the hard way
triangles method is the way too go 👍
You guys did a great job
thanks for the help guys, im gettin ready to do some wrapping for the 1st time.
soapy water so the surface is slightly wet before applying the Vinyl, makes removing the bubbles a ton easier, then use the heat gun to stretch for the perfect fit, also you guys should warn against too much stretch when using a pattern, so you don't distort the pattern :) all the surface should be damp........from my limited sign writing experience with Vinyl anyway, never tried to wrap a whole panel like that tbh :P
Well done guys. I used your method but had to get mum to help me hold the vinyl while I heated and layer the vinyl. What would we do without our mothers.
great job lads nice to see people doing it them selfs fuck paying shop prices how much for that roll off carbon fiba ?
Not too bad for the first time. Looks pretty cool.
Many thanks for uploading this, I am about to try my own first bonnet wrap.
Would this not be easier if the bonnet was off the car?
Also could you let us know what you would do differently from your first time to the next one you would do. Cheers.
Everyone learns the hard way first time round. You have to make mistakes to get things right sometimes. But you got there in the end.
So glad this wasn't the first video I watched concerning DIY vinyl wrapping LMAO. I would have quickly said NO WAY. If you're watching this, please watch other vids too. It's not supposed to be this difficult hahaha.
Al ver varios de los videos m doy cuenta de que voy por buen camino, gracias
