Pat, I love that you said "goo-mies" and not "gum-mies" when describing the gifted candy. I get comments for doing that all the time but that's how I learned it living in Germany as a kid! Everything you do is greatly appreciated. Blessings to you and Greg.
Thank you Pat for the “scaling” tips for the piano keys(hee) You are just so generous with your knowledge about making quilts. I appreciate you sharing it.
It’s been said before and it will be said again, but you truly are truly blessed with talent, and so many people appreciate you and your willingness to share your talents. It’s a whole other thing to be willing to teach your talents. So many people are territorial and don’t share, you’re so generous. Thank you for always being the best in every way!
Lol...I just live in Utah and I hop on often at 5:30am when I'm STILL awake. I feel like I can finally go to sleep after I've watched my Pat Sloan. It's now 7am and I'm saying goodnight before the sun shines in. Love the piano keys!
Thanks for such a clear explanation on how to figure out piano keys borders! I've struggled with this for a long time and consequently shy away from them! No more!
Piano borders are beautiful. I made a Christmas quilt with a piano border. It was a kit and they figured it out for me. Thanks for teaching us how we can do it.
Hi Pat. Getting caught up. A tip for the Vegemite, very tiny amount, do not use a thick coating, or you will get way too much salt flavor and be turned off. 👍 I love it, but I am Australian. ☺️ But the thinner the spread the better. Enjoy your box of goodies. 😊
Love this, thanks for sharing! Enjoy the Australian goodies, makes me miss living there! Be sparing with the vegemite, best on toast. It’s truly an acquired taste!
A tip from another Australian follower - Vegemite has a very strong taste so use very sparingly until you acquire a taste for it. Most Aussies are raised on it from ~1 year of age so build up their appreciation of its strong taste gradually. It’s also great as a base to stocks and marinates. I love Vegemite but are one of the few (only?) Australians who don’t like TimTams. Enjoy.
Pat, thank you sew much for the free directions to add the piano key border on All the Trimmings. While I know it's not really rocket science to figure it out, it's really nice to already have it figured out! Can't wait to finish up my quilt top. I never did get to any of the cross stitch version but I have saved each pattern for future use (hopefully!). As Always, thanks for all you do for all of us! 🤩😘
Love the piano key border thank you for sharing with us. What a fabulous pavkage from down under, you will love the fatale chocolates they can be addictive, when tasting the vegimite just use a smidge on your toast. Enjoy
Hope you enjoy your minties and fantales Pat, they are big favourites here in Australia 🇦🇺, loved your reaction to your down under box, I’ve not seen one of those before as I’m in another state in Australia. Thank you for your tips on the piano keys, I look forward to your videos each day.❤️
Use lots of butter on your toast with the Vegemite and remember for you uninitiated people, a little goes a looooong way! It’s also good to use in any sort of beef casserole etc, just a teaspoon. We grew up on it, on teething rusks, on toast, with cheese, in mashed potatoes, in stews and casseroles. We even have a Vegemite jingle that every child knows off by heart, at least in my generation and during different world wars if you needed to identify yourself quickly as Australian you sang a few notes of either the Vegemite jingle or the Aeroplane Jelly jingle. We’re happy little Vegemites, As bright as bright can be, We all enjoy our Vegemite for breakfast lunch or tea. Our mummies say we’re growing stronger every single week because we love our Vegemite, we all adore our Vegemite, it puts a rose in every cheek. 🤣🤣 It’s made from yeast extract and is very high in B vitamins.
Love the idea of the piano key border, and how you arrive at the size needed. Thank you! Your quilt top is beautiful! I live on the west coast, so I miss the "chat" that goes on in the a.m. But, watch your videos every morning.
I love the piano keyboard, it looks really nice using the fabric from All the Trimmings. Also, what a good quilter you're need to receive the nice mail!
Hi Pat! I, too, love your piano key border 🙂 Thanks so much for the tips! Your chocolate fabric-I have a few random ones similar to those. And I used random food fabric layer cake last year for the Stay at Home quilt! Cookies, candy bars, the little dot candies on the strip of paper, popsicles, biscuits, hot dogs 🌭It turned out so fun! My thinking was-this will be a fun little picnic quilt. I gave it to my 2-yr old (at the time) grandson.
I love the idea of a piano key border on the outside of the quilt top. What a great idea...I really hope you won't mind, but I think I might just duplicate your idea! Thanks for all of your knowledge!
Advise from and Aussie viewer - with your milo make it on full milk (no water) - either hot or cold . Your vegemite spread thinly/sparingly on hot buttered toast. Thanks for the instructions for piano key boarder, - I always get the count wrong when ever I have tried to make them.
So grateful for you and your talents! I have to do row 4 and mine will be done. I only had a layer cake so I’ll have to look for some fat quarters to do the piano keys, which I love! It really finishes the quilt nicely! As soon as I get the 4 th row done I’ll do my heart block! Determined to stay on task and keep up! Thank you for all you do and teach us! Oh I love you chocolate fabric! How fun! How do we send you goodies?
I try to watch this during the live stream, it’s always so early? What state are you in Pat for time zone? Love your RUclips videos always learn so much! Thank you!
I am in Virginia, been here 35 years :) I run my videos so I do them first thing when I get up in the morning. I know not everyone can be on this time but about 75% of the people who watch could if they wanted to as 7:15 eastern time they are up.
do you mean the width? i do it by eye, what looks good. there is no formula i know of.. if it is not LONG then it is not a 'key' so it has to be longer than it is wide or it is a square
Thanks for showing us how to figure the piano keys. I have done them before but just sewed them on the sides and then the top- then I cut them wherever they were ( one could be cut in half)….. your way keeps it looking nice 😊 I also sewed strips of fabric together ( 3 or 4) and then cut in the size I wanted,…… made sewing them much quicker…. Is that what you do, or do you sew each one individually?
watch my videos on my wall. if you put 'design wall' in the search bar of my channel you will get what you need, here it is ruclips.net/user/PatSloansearch?query=design%20wall
Great idea! You are so smart! I like the idea of a mitered corner but don’t like messing with it so much! An HST might just be the answer. I have just usually put a corner square in all 4 corners. I did do this once where I embroidered a block (machine embroidery) for the 4 corners. But I must try the HST sometime. Thanks for the great idea!
When you kept saying 2" wide strips & then said each square on the graph equaled 2", were you meaning 2" sewn or 2" wise cut? It was unclear to me.... I did download your directions and see it says 2½" wide cut, 2" wide sewn, but it woud be helpful in caae someone for whatever reason couldn't download it.
Ellen I wrote the pattern and everyone is able to down load it, so that is what you should follow. The GRID PAPER is 2". NOT 2.5" ... when drafting you do never use the seam allowance number or you will be royally messed up. let me know this makes sense
Pat, I love that you said "goo-mies" and not "gum-mies" when describing the gifted candy. I get comments for doing that all the time but that's how I learned it living in Germany as a kid! Everything you do is greatly appreciated. Blessings to you and Greg.
Yum all my favourites as I’m from Australia, very lightly spread vegimite on toast hope you enjoy the Aussie goodies

Thank you for this idea, Pat, as I do indeed have so much fabric left over, perfect for this border!
On a trip to Australia some 20 years ago, I fell in love with Vegemite. It's tangy and delicious! I hope you enjoy it too.
Beautiful Christmas quilt. Love your snow capped trees. The berries are very pretty at the top
Love the piano key border thank you for sharing with us. What a fabulous pavkage from down under, you will love the fatale chocolates they can be addictive, when tasting the vegimite just use a smidge on your toast. Enjoy
Glad you like the chocolate fabrics. Have a great week.
they are wonderful!!!
I love the border! It is a great way to use up scraps too.
Thank you for showing how to calculate the piano border. This will really help when trying to make something on my own!

Hello ❣️ I love the 🎹 key boarder, really set's it off. Getting ready for Fall Frolic 🍁🍂🌾🎃 See you tomorrow.
Thank you!
Thank you for these directions. A. Printing but hope I can file in sewing room and find when I need it. 😉
Advise from and Aussie viewer - with your milo make it on full milk (no water) - either hot or cold . Your vegemite spread thinly/sparingly on hot buttered toast.
Thanks for the instructions for piano key boarder, - I always get the count wrong when ever I have tried to make them.
I love the piano keys borders but the top was just the right size for where it is to hang so I've kept it the original size.
So grateful for you and your talents! I have to do row 4 and mine will be done. I only had a layer cake so I’ll have to look for some fat quarters to do the piano keys, which I love! @@PatSloan awesome!! I lived in Virginia about 2 years. Beautiful place!!!
Love your videos no matter what time they are on!
Thank you!!😀
💗💗
do you have a 'formula' for deciding the length of the piano border strips?
do you mean the width? i do it by eye, what looks good. there is no formula i know of.. if it is not LONG then it is not a 'key' so it has to be longer than it is wide or it is a square

you can strip sew or sew units. These are cut from a 10" layer cake so no strips
2x4 strips should be cut 2.5 x4 for seam allowance. Right? LindaD
2.5x4.5 perhaps fir side seams of border.
That is not correct. Download my pattern at my website, link in the description bix
Can I ask what kind of wall you have, that the fabric stays on? I haven't had any luck getting mine to stick. Thanks!
watch my videos on my wall. if you put 'design wall' in the search bar of my channel you will get what you need, here it is ruclips.net/user/PatSloansearch?query=design%20wall
Thank you!
Oh no. I am sure the wrotten directions are not there anymore. I am going to do that with a quilt for our bed. I'm looking to see how it's done.
Might be fun to scrap sew a few pieces together and then make an HST out of it to put in the corners of the border. Instead of fussing with a mitre.
do that and show us!
Anyone know if there is enough fabric left from our original layer cake to do this or do you need extra?
i made my piano key with leftovers of the layer cake used
@@PatSloan Thank You!! Haven't started this quilt yet. Just wanted to make sure I could do your border. I love it!
Do you cut the pieces 2 1/2 by 4 1/2
Download the pattern I wrote for you, it has everything
When you kept saying 2" wide strips & then said each square on the graph equaled 2", were you meaning 2" sewn or 2" wise cut? It was unclear to me....

Used your accuquilt to cut your squares.
great!
