I was 15 years old the year they were taken. I started playing guitar a year before that I listen to Maury. Night and day I wore those records out I later became a studio musician in Nashville play in that same style of guitar for song writers I loved their sound.

I learned all of Croce’s songs on my 6 and 12 string guitars. I played his music everywhere I went. I loved his music. I look around at today’s music and there’s not one singer with the talent, humor and uniqueness of Jim Croce. I was so sad when I learned of his loss. And I thought of all the heartfelt and real music we will never hear from him again. I looked him up on wiki and learned the pilot had just ran part of 3 miles between the airport and a motel and because he had a serious heart problem the plane carrying Croce, Maury Muehleisen and several others crashed into a tree at the end of a runway. The weather was perfect with unlimited visibility so the cause of the crash was probably the result of the pilot dying while taking off. We think of all the ifs in our lives and we could think of all the ifs that lead to Jim Croce’s death. What if the pilot didn’t make that run. What if the pilot knew he wasn’t well and another pilot flew that plane that night. Imagine all the wonderful music we could still be listening to. Jim’s wife Ingrid opened a restaurant or club in LA and called it Croce’s. I always wanted to go there but it closed before I could make it. She must be a wonderful person.

I was only 11 years old when he passed away, but his music has shaped my life ever since I first heard it. True story, my older sister got the "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" album and would play it all the time. I would hear the first notes of "Operator" and would come barreling into our shared bedroom, hyped up to hear what I thought was the song, "My Maria". At first I was bummed out to have been tricked, but after awhile Jim's songs grew on me. He is still my favorite artist, ever! Thank you for sharing this video with the world!

It's a real shame that the Music Industry didn't take care of Jim like that should have. As good as Jim was writing this great masterpieces, he was barely getting by and had to work do menial labor jobs in between tours just to pay the bills.

I've always felt Jim should have revised the words in the first song ('A Woman Like You'). The music is sweet but the words are harsh. There's a mismatch, to my mind . . .
James Neilson Graham I think the mismatch may have been on purpose... showing the way the woman in the song misrepresented herself to him / relationship. Coming on sweet and beautiful and being anything but~ Just how I read into it... the man was pure and genius.

Agreed about 'A Woman Like You'. There's an awkward disconnect between the suave, harmonious music and the vindictive words. What is the lady supposed to have done? The music calls for sentiment, maybe irony, for the germ of a story. The one-dimensional textual idea calls for a gritty blues maybe. Now 'Hit the road, Jack', there's harshness with an appropriate musical vehicle. Having said that, Jim Croce is still a treasure . . .
