Thank you for this video it really helps. I myself struggle with getting down on myself when I make a mistake and after I do i start making more mistakes. My coaches always tell me to relax and have some fun when I do. I’m getting better with that now though. I’ve actually played varsity baseball since 7th grade and am now a freshman. I am currently the starting second baseman and have played second for three years. Again thank you for this video.
Im just waiting for somebody to ask me how many years ive played. Then ill respond with 2 Hypothetical Situation: 10 year player: ''How many years have you played?'' Me (Hitting, fielding, and pitching like ive done it my whole life too), ''2 years.'' Coaches mental note: Keep an eye on that kid and see what he looks like next year. I guess its not your WHOLE life, but a good chunk.
My kid woke up one morning after turning 13 and decided he wanted to play baseball. We spent the summer teaching him the game and managed to get through 3 seasons of pony. The development has been wonderful to see, and he's tall and built, but you can tell hes still not as experienced as the others. Hes trying out for freshman ball this week...i told him no matter what happens im proud hes out there giving it his all. Your videos are vey helpful to him just want to say thanks for the tips
No matter what there are other avenues. Please look for Rec and or Club Teams. Just have him play Rec, sandlot, club, etc... Just play and love the game. If he works hard and has passion he will play. Also, you do not have to go from 0 to 100 in 3 years. Just let him have fun and keep the passion alive
Thanks for making this coach. Going to show this to my son tonight. His freshman roster came out yesterday and he’ll be starting at 1B Monday night. 90 guys tried out, including 8 for 1B. Wanted to show him something to keep him grounded a bit, and motivate him to keep putting in the work.
I'm becoming a freshman in August and I have just started getting back into the sport this month. My friends who play say that's it's going to be a hard journey if I want to play baseball in my freshman year. Thanks to Justin I've got the determination to put in the effort to gather some of my friends to help me improve so when that time comes around I'll be prepared.
My son made the freshman squad for his baseball team; the varsity squad is a defending section champs (sent the state POY to the majors). I'm good with him making the freshman team. No pressure and on-pace development.
I've coached another sport for over 20 yrs and starting to coach baseball for my young son. These tips are on point!!! can't stress this enough!! If your goal is to play varsity as a freshmen, heed all of his advice. Awesome Coach Justin. love your vids.
I’m a freshman, first ever year playing baseball. My catching needs work, but atm, my swinging is more than above average for beginners. I’m super glad the other teammates help. I’d be terrible without them.
I'm a freshman currently with only a few weeks of practice under my belt, but this video was great and reassured me that I was doing the right things. For future freshman, remember this: respect. Respect your coaches, respect your teammates, respect the game. Good luck guys
My older classman appreciate my hard work I play second and first base and my upperclassman appreciate how I communicate on the field and help everyone out.
I'm a freshman now and at my school, they are proposing this year's tryouts on April 26 because of the Covid-19 Pandemic so I hope these tips are helpful!!!!!
Thank u man I’ve just started jv ball and I was disappointed cause I outworked everybody but I understand I need to go through some growth and mental stuff cause I have not been doing good so thank you I’ll use this going into my next game/practice
ill be a freshman this year and im a lil passive for someone who wants to get into baseball but I know ill have a good shot if i keep my head forward and keep going till the season starts
How do I train to see a fastball and not just see nothing. Every time I go against a fastball that has some Velocity I can’t see it well so I don’t know we’re to swing or were the ball is.
Hey, I am going to be a Freshman next year and am wondering a few things. I am probably top 5 best hitters on my team, but my team isn’t that good. I feel like If I work hard enough in the offseason I could probably make the team, but I don’t know who to talk to and who I can train with until that time. Thanks.
I’m a freshman this year, been working as hard as possible and giving 110%. Sprained my ankle pretty bad on 2nd base and my coach told the whole team that this is what hard work and putting in effort looks like. Hope I heal fast.
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been playing varsity since 7th grade and am now a freshman and this really helps because I have the habit of getting down on myself when I make a mistake. I love this channel btw
I need this lol I'm 8th grade playing for the HS team and so I'm really gunning for varsity next year and working really hard Thanks for ur vids they're awesome!!!!
I would like to add you need to keep your grades up. If I have to choose between 2 or more kids of equal talent for 1 spot on the team, who do you think the coach will pick? School teams want scholar athletes. Coaches WILL talk to your teachers. Cruising through on c's and d's isn't going to cut it. Putting forth your best in the classroom tells the coach you're a safe bet who won't have eligibility problems.
Next year I’m going to be a freshman and I have pretty much no experience in baseball. I played city league in 5th grade but that doesn’t really mean anything. I decided not to do football in freshmen year because I kept on feeling like shit from getting hit every single practice and every single game I was in. I’ve decided to get a gym membership and I’m going to go to a batting cage and I’m going to work on catching as much as possible. What should I expect from playing baseball as a freshman?
I’m a pitcher and have been injured since December and just got released last week. I then got hurt again lost a tooth and busted my lip and I come back the day of tryouts so I’m very worried I’m not prepared. I haven’t been able to run and field for over 2 months. Im very worreid about the 60 and fielding. Im a pitcher so im not sure if I need to be worried. What should I do?
90% of highschool ball players were I'm from also played extensive travel ball before highschool so we get a good idea of who's going to play highschool ball at 12u/14u
I’m a senior in high school who just got cut again for 4 straight years. Even though they day I’m the hardest worker. I need helpful tips physically and mentally. What can I do now? Now how could I tryout for college?
We had a coach who had a kid in the same grade as my kid. The sad part is that he centered the whole focus on his kid to make his boy look like number #1 and he was not that great at all....Kids can get noticed but when you got Daddy ball in HS no matter how good your player is, the nepotism of a coach will throw the skilled players in the backburner. Sad story but happens so true no matter how hard you attend the voluntary workouts and how good you are.
Hey coach Justin right now currently I am struggling on my Highschool baseball team I understand the game is the same but hitting feels weird. On my 14u team everything is fine playing major, Highschool ball the guys are throwing harder and curveballs break a crap ton more. I can see the ball perfectly fine it’s just at contact I seem to foul off every pitch either straight back or down the lines on inside and outside pitches. When I have gotten a hit so far it’s been pounded into the ground. I’m batting 4-hole in the lineup and it’s not a good look not bringing in runs or getting on base. It kind of makes me a little agitated knowing I can hit but the lack of confidence right now is making me lean more to being a PO when I don’t just want to pitch and want to hit. Any tips or anything that can help? I also do understand it’ll kinda of be hard to answer when you don’t have a video reference of my in game at bats
I am a junior on my baseball team I understand the struggle of hitting in your first year you just need to keep working hard and get your confidence built back up
@@andrewchambers4746 good to hear and just to give you a update since my freshman year my batting average is a .571 through the 7 games I’ve played so far and im also a Junior now💪🏼‼️
Already had Tryouts 37 people only around 20 Made It, I'm a pitcher What messed Me up, This is not an excuse this actually messed me up a lot, But I always Had a mit to throw at and the catchers Didn't keep their mits up!! they wouldn't even Give me a target!!! so I'm gonna work on that But Just wanted to warn anyone going as a po

Connor... I had this issue in high school with a guy that had caught me for years and suddenly started dropping his mitt instead of leaving the target steady. You've got to speak up for yourself. Tell your catcher you need that target. As the pitcher, *you're in charge.* Game starts with you. I needed the target. He adjusted after I spoke to him. Good luck. And you're young. There are rec leagues to play in. Get your experience there and keep at it. Hard work usually pays off. If you want something you need more than a casual effort to get it. Skills sharpen the more you play. And study the game. Much more to pitching than just throwing the ball over the plate. Change speeds, change pitch locations --- inside, outside, up, down. Don't let the batter get comfortable waiting for the same pitch in the same area. And avoid the middle of the plate. When you watch a major league game, study what the pitcher is trying to do. For example, one pitch may be a high inside strike, the next low and away. You want to change the batter's eye level, often pitch to pitch. Make it tough on him. And always believe in yourself. Be confident.
Actually, what he means by stay within yourself, he means by control the controllables, but yeah don't try to hit home runs because then you'll tense up your arms and you'll over swing and you'll pull your head, but the home runs will just come just as long as you hit line drives consistently and they will eventually turn into home runs
