I am 31 years old, and have been a fan of X-Japan for 20 years.. With confidence, I can tell you, the reason why this performance was so special on all fronts- particularly from the audience- is that this was the Last Live. On the album Blue Blood, Endless Rain stands out amongst a sea of powerful tracks, and has become quite the staple of their music. I suppose the closest that I could compare this to.. Is when I finished Final Fantasy 7. I grew up poor, and when I got a PS1, I only rented, until I kept renting FF7. When I finally earned enough to buy it, it was the only game I had for ages, and I continued to engage and play it for well over a year. I loved it, it never bored me, it was always exciting. Yet, when I finally beat the game.. I let the stars scrawl across my screen for hours, wishing for more, yet I knew in that moment after playing this game for well over a year.. It was over. I let what I knew was the finale scroll across my screen in the feeble hopes of minutes more. This is what makes this so powerful. You have a crowd of people seeing- as far as they know- the last time they'll see this amazing band. They sing the chorus of Endless Rain to maintain them on the stage, to hold onto what helped them, in whatever capacity. The Last Live is an amazing, and one of the most difficult, concerts I have ever seen, because everyone's emotions are so ready. So tangible. So raw. I'm glad you're experiencing this amazing group for who they are and what they have contributed to music the world over. There's nothing like X-Japan.
As a fellow X Japan veteran, truer words have never been spoken until just now. I've followed them for so long (20+ years now) & your comment holds entirely true. They connect on such a level I didn't even dream was possible, their lyrics & their music alone are just so full of life/love/loss/hope, it's palpable & honest. This last live is Incredibly hard for me to watch for several reasons but doing so keeps me surprisingly grounded & motivated.
Thank you! That concert, The Last Live, was X Japan’s farewell concert on December 31st 1997, the guitarist with the red hair (hide) died a few months after. Your reaction to their hair was priceless haha especially with Toshi, the singer. Toshi and Yoshiki cut their hair a couple of years before this (It wasn’t a wig or anything, it was their actual hair)
This was also the last song they play together along with Hide. You can see Yoshiki seem reluctant to leave as if he doesn't the band to break up. Always teared up everytime watching this performance...
I've read numerous comments after i submitted mine saying when i first discovered x japan and realized hide died, that others too felt an instant pain of his absence. This is evidence of hides' strength of spirit. The entire band has this formidable spirit that you feel the songs without knowing the words meaning. If you don't cry listening to x japan or even yoshikis' solo work, then you have no heart. Or at least are unaware of how to tap into its power to help you realize true humanity.
I'm years too late to answer this as this was only just recommended by the algorithm but there are several reasons why this one is emotional & hits home. Namely.. around the time of this concert (if not before), their singer left XJapan to seek other ventures. During this entire concert they were all hurt/angry/unsure of what came next, they had no idea where they all stood. This information is searchable on the internet & via their film "We are X" . Some of the members went off to continue their solo careers & the like.. To Yoshiki (pianist & drummer) the band was his outlet to both cope with the tragedies he had faced in his life & to pour out how he felt into his music, the band is family to him even to this day. In 1998 hide left us & gained his wings, it affected not only the band but fans from all walks of life; it still affects most of us to this day because he had such a big influence on even the most famous bands such as Luna Sea (who he discovered) etc. The song 'endless rain' is emotional because of the lyrics & the irony upon later reflection, it strikes chords inside us because we can all take a step in their shoes with similar situations/emotions & really let it take over. Even now, in 2021, their music still holds as strongly as it did back then. I'm so grateful you reacted to this, it shows that it touches the hearts of not only the oldest fans but the younger generation too. Thank you.
I happened to watch their 1992 live when I was 16. I don't know why but I though a guy in a white dress was crying and I cried too. That was the fist time I met them. Still unknown sorrow rises in my heart everytime I listen to X-Japan. Weird because now I'm 33 and Yoshiki affects me the same way he did long time ago.
Thank you for your amazing reation!! I really appreiciated :) Years ago, I didn't know that 'X-Japan' was the GREATEST musician,, but then I knew my parents generations once were the huge fans of X-Japan.. Actually, there is remake version in korean and that's 'Don't Cry by the cross'. You can search that in 'Sugarman', the korean tv show, which idols remake populat old korean songs. I wish you try reaction on orchestra version of ' ENDLESS RAIN' in Carnegie Hall by YOSHIKI! Well.. as you may know... the behind story of 'X-japan' makes me heartbroken. Hide...He had achieved tremendous successes in solo activites(also as the singer). The fact that Hide, who seemed the most fortunate, struggled the most to prevent Toshi, the vocalist of the team, from leaving. I think this shows how attached he was to the group X...When Toshi catches Hide(the red colored hair)'s eyes, Hide must have been crying on the inside... Toshi was steeped in a cult religion that he became distracted, abused, ripped off, humiliated.. It was Hide who just constantly crying and tried to persuade him to protect this band,,cursing Toshi so bad and Hide even threw things away begging not to go.. But yeahhh.. I think Toshi's sadness by singing the last song of X's last performance is more painful and heartbreaking than any other drama's famous scene. Hide, singing his last song, staring at Toshi .. We can see Hide suppressing his sadness on his face... I heard that YOSHIKI, the piano man, made most of their songs .. So he always can't help having nervous and sensitive personality, which keeps fostering conflicts within his team. Hide was actually a peacemaker. He was kind, gentle and generous that even YOSHIKI likes him a lot. I heard that he had endeared himself to senior and junior singers by his warm-hearted... And Hide's sudden death..Japan were absolutely devastated cuzz right before his death, HIDE was on TV promoting Zilch's album. I heard that fans were really panicked and some were even suicidedㅠㅠ
Endless Rain, fall on my heart (kokoronokizuni) Let me forget all of the hate, all of the sadness Endless Rain, let me stay evermore in your heart Let my heart take in your tears, take in your memories R.I.P hide
Hi! I just found your channel...great reaction, I cannot watch any of these videos of X Japan without breaking down in tears...you are as emotional as I am! I haven't seen your reactions, but I'll be spending some time doing so; PLEASE watch Yoshiki's documentary "We Are X, the Death and Life of X Japan". I've watched it 16 times now, still brings me to tears. You will get the true story of this amazing group of talented men, and how they have risen from the ashes of their break-up, sadly without hide and Taiji. Toshi, the singer was truly a completely broken man in this video, completely brainwashed by the cult his "wife" got him involved with, as you can see by his body language. Thanks again for this reaction, please read and watch about this band of brothers.... sending you love from the United States!
Most of their songs are related to Yoshiki's dad, some very obscure and others more obviously so. Endless Rain too, but Tears is definitely the most obviously written song about his dad.
Endless Rainを初めて聞いてから30年になりましたが… この動画を見て自分も初めてEndless Rainを見て泣いてしまいました(ノД`)・゜・。 動画投稿ありがとうございました(Google翻訳) Thirty years have passed since I first heard Endless Rain ... I saw Endless Rain for the first time and saw this movie and I cried (No Д`) · ゜ ·. Thank you for posting a video (Google translation)
this version of this song is sadder than ever because this is the last live concert and then the band collapses because Toshi was caught in a sect that disturbed his mind and made him quit the band! Unfortunately, Hide, the guy in green died just before the band reunited. the band is now reunited but the without the prefered member
I mean it is better and more! I was a metal head until I got into japanese music since than I stopped listening to "metal, taraditional metal", and jrock led me to classical music! :)
Forever X. Remember this time. Covid-19 cross over the world but this song never be overm From Malaysia. 27/4/2020. Makes this song forever masterpiece.
The crowd kept singing for 9-10 minutes after the band stopped. The singer had joined a religious cult which forced him to quit music ending the band. This was their last live show and the crowd didn’t want it to end.
Its such an emotional song. X-Japan was "finishing up" due to the lead singer Toshi being brain washed and marrying into a cult which threatened his life if he kept performing. Yoshiki decided they couldnt go on without Toshi so this was the final concert. X-Japan was still very popular so its fans were shattered when this happened as then they didnt know much beyond fact it was xjapan's last. They sat there and sang the chorus for basically ever till they came back onto stage. But after some years Toshi did leave that cult and they rejoined and started back up again. And sadly was last time for Hide as he passed away in 1998. But unknown to all, it wasnt the last time for them as they did reappear 10 years later after this "last live" but sadly without Hide which sucked as he was great guitarist. Think it was said there was like 60k+ people at his funeral or something. Xjapan is a huge band in Japan and from Gene Simmons himself, they'd be the biggest band in the world if they were from US or Europe instead of Japan. Huge influence for many upon many bands out there and one of the creators of Japan's "Visual kei" bands basically Japans version of the "westerns Glam rock of the 80s."

The only candidate to compete with X japan perhaps was the Ozaki Yutaka. Both have powerful and deep lyrics...
There is nothing like XJapan yes
FF10, for me!

If you haven't yet, you should watch the documentry We Are X to get more insight on what was going at the time of that performance.
Give it a decade.. Or two.. or more... And it's not going to get any less emotional to see this.
Totally agree with you guys. All of their ballad songs are all emotional. I an literally listen to them 24//365 .

i'm a 55 year old male metal head and this song pulls the heart strings. X Japan are one of a kind.

After this one they came back and played The Last Song
@@MrHehaaw This actually isn't the last song they played together, after the concert (and after The Last Song) they performed Forever Love at Kohaku.
I was lucky enough to see them on time live on stage after the reunion. I cried like a baby when they played this song.
You spend 30 years touching people's hearts, don't be surprised when they start to love you.
first about the hair then when toshi start singing then amzy cant speak anymore, thats pure magic..
Yeah, the power of X Japan. I was like that too when first I heard them.
