They have made so many unique tracks, perfect blend of black metal & shoegaze, that's why they have been so acclaimed as a band, hope they don't fall into simple shoegaze because they would lose their authenticity. I like the shoegaze they do but I think it's a step behind their peak compositions, will listen to the whole album, cheers. Black Brick is incredible

This song really does sound cosmic and spiritual. It also has a mature and withered sadness and introspection. I feel that it’s what I need right now during a tough transition in life. Maybe the album will help me get through when it comes out.
This is FIRE. Already got the album pre-ordered, cannot wait. And for anyone lamenting the "new sound" or that "this isn't even the same band anymore," this: the old albums didn't suddenly disappear. You can listen to them whenever you want if what you want is the old stuff. It still rules. But great bands evolve. I'd much rather see them explore new dimensions and follow their instincts wherever that takes them than repeat themselves over and over. They've earned my trust as songwriters and musicians, and I'm excited to take this ride with them.
This is why we need bands like Deafheaven. This is pure artistic expression without limit, and it really always has been. I'm happy for them to be able to play exactly what they want and subsequently pushing the genre forward opening more bands to do the same.
That’s all well and good, but now they just feel like every run-of-the-mill shoegaze band. As a fan of the black metal aspects, this really leaves me wanting.

I know I'm late, but New Bermuda is probably my favorite album of theirs to date. I'm probably a bit biased on that, I've got some rather fond memories of it and the first time I listened to it I was tripping balls with a buddy's coworker. He described it best: "It's like being adrift in a relentless storm, being battered by the crashing drums and harsh vocals and just waiting for those brief, beautiful moments of calm where you can catch your breath and see the sun through the clouds."
I got into them about 5-6 years ago. I love this band through and through. This was such a pleasant surprise you have no idea. At first I was iffy, because it wasn't necessarily the deafheaven I wanted. But this album is a fucking masterpiece and I've been blasting it since it came out.
@WilshirecityBlues I think it's pretty even, hard to say which one is better since they're so different. This has a distinct old-timey vibe that's not so easy to achieve without sounding bland, and they nailed it.
The production is so much better on this than the older stuff. It’s so much wider and full sounding. Fits perfectly with the new sound which I like as well. Still love the old stuff too
This isn't angering the fan base as much as I thought it would. Most likely because if you're a fan of Deafheaven, you're a fan of the other genres they integrated in their sound.
Well, the only reason for why I’m not disappointed about this song is because I expect the rest of the album to be more like their older ones. I really couldn’t take a whole album of this average sounding vocals to be honest.
