Super bummed the track was rained out but I promise there will be a track video next weekend if the weather permits😁 Авто/Мото
I bookmarked your video about the intercooler install, and used it as a reference when I installed my Steeda unit last week. Your video covered everything, so I didn't get any surprises. I also removed the shutter blades, but left the motors alone, so the system "thinks" it still has the blades. The bottom part on mine had the rivets, but the ones supplied with the kit weren't big enough to cover the holes, so they just fell out. However, since the aluminum bumper bolts to the grill piece that these rivets go in, like you said, you don't really need to replace them. Can't believe how much bigger this intercooler is compared to the OEM shoebox: over 200 percent larger volume, and over 250 percent bigger frontal surface area. Took me about 4 hours from start to finish, so that saved me several hundred dollars in shop labor. I used only handtools, except for a cordless impact to break loose the aluminum bumper bolts. A breaker bar probably would've loosened them as well, but I used what I had on hand. Good video, helped me out a lot!
Dude I love getting comments like this glad I could save you money and help you out😁 that’s why I make these videos 💪 the after market intercoolers are huge compared to oem it’s insane lol
This video was the perfect guide I needed to follow for my 2020 Explorer ST inter cooler upgrade.
Thank you for posting!
Thank you for watching 🙏😁
Great job with this! Good explanation and video. Cool having your son just chilling with you.
I really appreciate the kind words man 😁 and he's a daddy's boy 😅
Good Job man. Nice Install and explaining it! 👍👍
I really appreciate it 😁
My next project tomorrow morning when still cool out! Thanks for the video.
Hell yeah man anytime hope the video helps you out 😁
Just got a ST today, First up CVF Intercooler and dp’s thanks for the great video.
Hell yeah man let me know I can help order them I’m a vendor for CVF 😁 and anytime glad to have a video that’s helpful 😁
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks thank you I will for sure let you know.
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching them and loving them means a lot 😁
Awesome video! Used it today for my install.
Just subscribed.
Ordered the intercooler last week.
Im hoping it will make a big difference.
Appreciate the support ❤️ you'll love the intercooler car feels much better even without a tune😁 I know a tune will only make it better! This Friday I'll be taking it to the track looks clear as far as no rain to see what I picked up before tuning.
That’s it! I’m tackling the CVF install. Let me just wait till it cools down here in H-Town
Do it man! I also do installations for others 😁
Thanks alot for the walk through
Anytime! Hopefully it was helpful 😁
Nice video man lake Houston is right by me too
Heck yeah man love crossing the bridge in the early morning 😁
One the better install videos out there!
Fixin to do mine this weekend.😁
Keep up the good work!
I appreciate the kind words man 😁 💪
LOL,,,,yea sure.
I know that bridge ! I’m off Woodland Hills ! And 8. Good looking ST.
Oh over there in summer wood huh? I’m over there all the time 👀
Houston here also. 2022 explorer st, I started with springs and axle back mbrp. Afe intake otw as well as sct device. I am also going with cvf intercooler just contemplating on doing it myself. Will do JDM tune.
All in all took me 3 hours and that was with filming install was pretty straight forward and hell yeah I plan on getting tuned here soon but I'll be tuned by ZFG
I'll do it, lol, I am just lazy after being in attics all day. HVAC 🔥.
I did the springs and sweated it out In my driveway, springs were a little harder on explorer than I remember when I did them on Mustang.
@@MrRichpost you should join the Houston ST/RS page pretty active page mostly focus guys but some explorer people lurking in the group. Yeah I've done springs they are a pain on these cars 🤣
And you got my respect I know that HVAC work isn't for the weak 😅
Thank you
Anytime man 😁
Looks like from the comments we need to have an Houston Explore ST meet up ! Let’s make it happen.
Join the Houston ST/RS group mostly focus guys but a few of us explorer guys lurking in the group 😅
where
hello good job great video really enjoyed it where can I pick up that blower like part with the pink tip up installed and what that called
I appreciate it man 😁 the pink intake part is from velossa tech they offer it in several colors and even a light up version 😁
25:58 - Sounds like your kid is having a siezure... LOL...
Been awhile since i've had little ones running around... mine is 20 now...
That duct peice looks like its 3D printed.... I'm going to make one myself with my 3D printer and print it out... I'll do a curved lip around the edge to give the air a smooth flow into the duct.
I am putting my Mishimoto intercooler in my '22 ST this weekend, along with the aFe CAI, and Thermal R&D Downpipe back exaughst (getting the SPD Downpipes with highflow cat's next to swap out, users on the forums did dyno test before and after and picked up a solid 30HP and nearly 40Ftlb with just that), and building my custom Tune with my HPTuners MPVI2+. Have a tune started, but cant wait to dig in more with the cooler IAT's with the new intercooler and really wake her up some more.
I can't believe Ford "Performance" cheaped out on the intercooler like that... If they wanted to make the cost another $600 for the intercooler to be a GOOD one, I would gladly pay that extra cost...
Got my '22 ST with 3 miles on the OD right off the back of the delivery truck last Thursday, only had the truck for a week and 1 day and already dumped a ton of performance stuff... Its my wifes car, I have a 2016 Stingray 3LT, but I and SHE LOVES the Explorer ST... gotdamn thats a fun truck!!!! Signed up for the FREE ford performance driving course with the purchase of the ST as well!!!!! Now the OD is at nearly 500Miles in a week of very fun driving....
He was yelling into the fan to sound like a robot 🤣
You could easily make your own as it's definitely 3d printed 😅
And hell yeah down pipes will be my next step no doubt 😁
I'm tuned now as well worth every penny I'll be releasing the video on that today❤️
And yeah these SUVs are stupid fun lol we got ours brand new too but idk if I'll be able to have that time off to make it out there for the school
Just came across this video and comment about 8 months of having my ST. Where did you find information about the driving course?
Come install my intercooler. I live in Sugar Land.
I do installs on the side of my normal job for a lot of people 👀
hey brother, would you recommend doing this install with little experience with working on vehicles? I’m pretty confident through watching your video but wanted to get your take.
Absolutely man you can do it! It's not hard just lots of parts to take off is all so it's time consuming
do u need to put any thread sealant on the fitting that goes into the intercooler?
What exhaust system did you install? Sounds Great! Thanks
Thanks man I'm running the thermal 3 inch exhaust 😁 I have a video over the install of that as well and if you'd like I can hold it up I work for lethal performance 😁
Nice job on all your work..wish you were my neighbor:
Price and lifetime warranty is why I choose cvfab over the other plus not to mention all tested very very similar to a other
It was a couple hundred dollars cheaper and in stock. Most of the others were $1200 vs $900.
Ok. Next question.
I just installed my CVFab intercooler and the driver side lover intercooler bracket is very close to the A/C condenser. Was it really close on your explorer as well? I assume they are all the same, yours looked just as close as mine at the bottom of the bracket in your video. Just wondering if you noticed it also.
I noticed but don't really think it's anything to be concerned with honestly
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks I guess time will tell. If it rubs against it often it could easily rub a hole in the condenser. If i notice mine rubbing any I will remove my bumper again and grind that point that it close to it off.
Yeah I don't think it should run honestly doesn't seem to have much movement but you never know honestly lol
Did you get a check engine light a day or two later for the active grill shutters? On mine I got a check engine light saying it couldn’t close the grill shutters but the motor is still in there I never even unplugged it. I have my back apart right now I’m thinking about just putting the shutters back in and see if it goes away
I think it is looking for the resistance of the stomp for full clothes and four open to find its position, and without the shutters there to hit the stops, it doesn’t know what position they are in and throws the code.
I reinstalled all my shutters and confirmed they are opening and closing, so I will see if the code comes back or stays gone
No sir, I do not have any codes from removing the shutters. I would double check and make sure that you didn't accidentally unplug something or damage something that wasn't supposed to be damaged
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks everything looks great. The motor is still plugged in and everything else was also.
I reinstalled the shutters and the code hasn’t come back. are you tuned? From my understanding most tuners lock the shutters open and turn them off the factory tune looks for the shutters to hit the stops on the all the way open and all the Way close position. If the shutters are there to hit the stops. It will throw the code with the factory tune.
@@KnightsGarage For my tune, I put it for SPORT mode and Towing mode, they LOCK open. So when I'm doing spirited driving or towing something, I want the best airflow thru the intercooler and rad.
THANK U....I'MMA DO IT THIS SUNDAY?
Let’s go 💪😁
Hey man. Have you noticed any difference in MPG’s with your ST since you removed your grill shutters? I’m installing my CVF intercooler and I’m debating on whether or not to remove them.
To my understanding they 100% open during any WOT event.
A slight increase like 1mpg but nothing crazy it's probably more so from the intercooler keeping the heat under control better. I removed them one because I'm in Texas and two because of horror stories of them being stuck shut and cars over heating. So I'd rather just remove them for peace of mind and the slightly better flow to the intercooler is a nice bonus 😁
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks I see all the information I’m reading states that when they close allows your vehicle to slip through the air, those increasing fuel mileage. It’s weird that you remove them and stay the same or even gained a mile per gallon.
@@KnightsGarage yeah I don't necessarily understand it either honesty mind you I have an exhaust band intake now so not to sure where the mileage chance came from. Did a little more highway driving than normal maybe it came from there
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks if it works the way, Ford says it works then highway driving is where you should’ve lost miles per gallon by removing them. But based off of what you say, there’s no difference.
Those are basically for keeping cold air out of the engine and keeping the engine at a optimal temp. So if you are in a cold climate and the winter, they will CLOSE to trap heat in and restrict airflow thru the rad/engine bay. I live in Phoenix, so the LOWest my truck will ever see is maybe 30° for a few hours one night or two each winter and see 60/70's during the winter days. So I could remove them and call it a day and never have to worry about them, but I'm going to keep them. Because when I do need heat/defog in winter, it will get the engine and water temps up faster, getting you heater faster. I know most people will think that 50° is not very cold, but coming from soneone who deals with 120°+ temps many times a year, 50 is freaking FREEEZZZING and I want my heater as fast as possible.
I think in Sport mode, the air damn stays OPEN, and in tow mode. In eco/normal modes I think it opens and closes bit by bit to keep the engine temps perfect optimized to get the best gas millage that way. But when its already HOT outside, opening and closing them does nothing, LOL...
That said, I am leaving mine on. I want to keep all the factory stuff like that where possible and not mangle the truck up and remove a ton of stuff... She is a very nice sleeper and there is no real performance loss that is measurable with it due to aerodynamics. I just hate when I buy a used car and someone mangled the stock systems like that and I go back and buy the parts to replace and get it back to stock spec.
Any idea what size the hose clamps are? I’m doing my intercooler this weekend and would like to order t-bolt clamps to replace the crappy OEM ones.
I want to say 2.5 off the top of my head
Do the grill shutters need to come out, or you just prefer them out for better airflow?
They do not need to come out, correct I take them out one for airflow and two I’ve heard nightmare stories of them getting stuck shut and causing the car to over heat not on our platform but on the focus platform so I’d rather just take them out to be safe as well.
Someone was telling me I was suppose to use blue loctite on the bolts but I forgot. I see you didnt use any either. Is it a concern?
No sir I’ve installed 12 intercoolers on explorers haven’t ever used loctite once and haven’t had an issue 😁
The zip ties are worthless to replace - probably something left over from the assembly line. That front assembly is held on with plenty of bolts then sandwiched behind the crash bar, so it isn’t going anywhere.
Any differences between the CV Fab vs the Whipple intercooler ?
They have been tested and flow damn near the same man
I have the gearhead auto octane tune if i get the intercooler and there ao with intercooler tune will it feel faster
Intercooler will help out on the top end and then also help you do consistent pulls m, in my opinion it’s a staple of a mod. Something you should do if your getting tuned or not.
I installed the same intercooler and got a ton of lights on when everything was put back together. I’ve checked all of the connections and can’t find anything wrong. I don’t know what is going on
I’d take it back apart it sounds like you missed a connection. Did you swap your old sensor off the intercooler into the new one?
My wife and I just tackled installing a Cvf intercooler and it was definitely pretty involved lol took us maybe 5-6 hours start to finish. No issues with the intercooler no CEL or anything.
I laid out all of the parts, individually bagged and labeled the hardware for each area I worked in, even labeled the connections and double checked that each one was reconnected. This is easily a 800-1k job at a shop.
Hello again. Do I absolutely need one if I don't race ?
No however it can only benefit the car helping keep the charge temps down in the hot weather
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks thanks man
Where you get the lit st logo?
lit-logos.com/
You can even use my code TELLISOR for 5% off
And if you scroll down I have a video over the install of the logo 😁
Can you have the intercooler without a tune? And is there any benefit or difference from the whipple intercooler?
Yes sir you can and you don’t need a tune, and in all honesty all the intercoolers for this platform, perform damn near the same so just find the one you want to spend your money on 😅
@Houston Speed Freaks Great thank you for the quick response
What’s the issue with this intercooler making the A/C not function as well? Anyone know anything about this? Apparently, it’s the reason the engineers made the stock the size they did.
That’s not true I live in Texas and the ac blows ice cold even during the summer time, I haven’t ever heard anyone complain about that. I’d check your ac system if it’s not working right.
Good to know, that was just something I had read somewhere…mine is arriving today, and I’ll be using this video to install! I’ve already used your vids to do the Thermal and afe intake. I’ve NEVER worked on a car before, thanks for walking me through this stuff!
How come you don't put links in the description for the products you are using?
There is a link in the description of the video....?
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks I guess I didn't scroll down... I see it now
@@johngodshall7746 no worries 😅 my other videos should have the part links as well if not when I get time I'll go and look at them later tonight and make sure they all have links 😁
What about increasing turbo lag ?
No a bigger intercooler does not increase turbo lag
Do you install if purchased from you?
I do installs even if you don’t purchase from me
My contact info is on my site reach out I can save you money in one and guarantee you won’t find anyone to install it for cheaper 😅
@HoustonSpeedFreaks thank you I subscribed your videos are badass!
how is you gas milage, have you notice any difference
Intercooler no tune no change in gas mileage but stock I was getting 14mpg after ZFG 93 tune I get 15mpg but on the e50 tune I get 13mpg 😅
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks good video... I was doing a lot research... looking at your video that will be my next project...
@@pedroblas100 I appreciate the love and the views man, honestly it was nice even being in the stock tune as it made the car way more consistent run after run compared to the stock intercooler all though untuned did nothing at all for my over all time.
What is the cost of labor to have this done?
Intercoolers I charge $400 for installation 😁
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks That is a very fair price. Looking for someone in Michigan who installs
Does this void warranty ?
No it does not void warranty 😁
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks that’s crazy 😂 I’m looking into getting 2020 explore st and want to add these mods on it but just don’t want to void the warranty
Did you have to trim the foam on the side of the intercooler?
No sir I did not have to trim the foam at all most people just let it bend out of the way I decided to remove it completely.
@@HoustonSpeedFreaks What is the purpose of the foam inserts? I thought about taking mine out as well. Any harm in doing so?
Great Video but, those zip ties are going to wear out, and Cause alot of Rattling, and Damage.
They are heavy duty and it comes that way from the factory, they will be just fine 😁
