Lionel and Kenny were good friends for many years. On a honors show for Lionel and Kenny perform this song together after Kenny tells the story behind the song and Lionel owned up to it. This is an example why he lasted for over 4 decades as a performer

Saw him in concert aurora illinois. He sang songs told stories jokes he was great . Showed pictures of his 5 year old twins a fantastic night he gave it his all. Sorry he is gone

Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Lady", "Through the Years" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

His voice could melt butter. Love him.. Such an awesome singer song writer.. I was born in 69 but grew up listening to all kinds of music so it would be hard for me to do reactions to older music. And most of today's I don't like. But I like even music from the 20's on up. Now there is some music from this time that I think is ok, but nothing like back then.
Saw him in concert 2011 aurora illinois he was wonderful. SNg hits told joke showed picture of his 5 year old twins show the gambler video I will never forget this concert. My birthday love his music forever

Oh yeah, Kenny Rogers has so many big hits. Lionel Richie wrote a beautiful song, and Kenny just delivered it. Pure talent, glad you're enjoying your music journey. He did a collaboration with Home Free called "Children Go Where I Send Thee" which is awesome and worth a listen. He was older when he sang with them.

Just found your channel and I just got finished watching this video. We all love Kenny and we all love the "grit" in his voice but.... Another huge star in the 70s/80s was Tony Orlando. In the video I want you to watch, Kenny sits along side Tony doing one of Tony's hits called CANDIDA.. Kenny was a lot younger in the video but you can really hear how pretty his voice is without the grit. It's a live version and it's when Kenny was the lead in a group called KENNY ROGERS AND THE FIRST EDITION.
