I updated the title of this video to Hoya lauterbachii. At the time of recording the video I was not aware that they axed the Eriostemma genus and now they are Hoyas. The information I found said that first they were considered Hoya, then got moved to Eriostemma around 2000s and I guess it's back to Hoyas how. So, it is in fact, Hoya lauterbachii! :)
My lauterbachii finally bloomed inside after 10 years of waiting. I live in SE Australia and the plant lives near a NE facing window, beside a heating radiator. The flowers were spectacular: well worth the wait. I wish I could post a photo here.
Good luck with them! I would like to get more, but first I think I need more confidence. There are easier ones in the Eriostemma section than lauterbachii.
Basie Plants I have the phyllura / linusii and the ariadna... because I’m at the stage of buying any that pop up on the fb marketplace lol. They’re neat and quite different.
Great video! I have heard that those kinda hoyas (eriostemma) are impossible to get to bloom in continental climate. Too bad I've just bought Hoya Obtusifolioides for its blooms, silly me :(
This seems to be true. I read that very few people were successful with blooming them inside, but maybe additional light, a humidifier and a heat mat will help. I am trying all of those things so we will see.... in several years 😂
Good morning, I bought mine as a hoya optimistic, which I knew how to sent a picture to you on comments. No flowers, but a lovely plant. Elsie Jeffreysbay Eastern Cape. South Africa
Many hoya leaves look the same, so it's always best to wait for the flowers. Keep the ID for now, and then you will know what it is once it blooms. Hoya 'Optimistic' should be similar to hoyas in eriostemma section. I don't know much about it as I don't have one.
Yes, practically all Eriostemmas look a like. :D I think it's better to ID these by flower. Who knows, maybe this could be H. coronaria as well. Only the flowers will tell us :) (so possibly, I will never know haha)
I will definitely have to make a video about that. Especially since I thought my H. shepherdii is H. shepherdii (does that even make sense?) but now I see it's in fact Dischidiopsis. Well darn it. I will sue! 😂
Eriostemma is not a genus anymore. It's the other way around: it used to be Eriostemma, but they appeared to be paraphylletic to Hoyas, and as such they moved all of the species to the Hoya genus. This phylogenetic tree from a paper from 2020 is very informative: bioone.org/ContentImages/Journals/will/50/1/wi.50.50112/graphic/img-z8-1_119.jpg
Thank you! All I could find is that it used to be Hoya, and then it 2001. it was moved to Eriostemma, but I also saw on IPNI it's not accepted so I was wondering what happened to that. But I looked on Cristina's website and I see they are still listed as Eriostemmas, so I assumed they will make the change. I planned to make one additional video after the 30 days is over (about the 30 days) so I will make sure to include this info. Very helpful :)
@@BasiePlants Yeah so Eriostemma exists as a taxonomic group, but it is now a section within the genus Hoya! It's all very complicated and it doesn't help that it changes all the time as well so don't feel bad. :p Forgot to say, really nice and informative video!

Thanks for this! I’ve acquired two in this genus now and Info is thin on the ground. This was very helpful!

I received this as a free plant recently, and I wondered after watching this were you able to flower this plant?
I just bought a large cutting of this species. I also put it on the heat mat. Hopefully it would bloom for me in the future :-)
Looks like I accidentally got this hoya which is not hoya😂 Thanks for the tips- will not cut this one😊

Hi. What would be the components of the potting mix for terrestrial Hoyas? Would you add soil/dirt?
She is perfect plant. Grow like crazy. Only to wait for flowers 😁
Haha. We can dream about flowers. :D
Great information. The leaves on this look just like my Hoya coronaria, which grows like a weed just in my house on a sunny windowsill.

looks a lot like my H. Ruth!
All hoyas from eriostemma section look almost identical and cannot be identified by leaves.
Hello! How is your hoya doing today?
Coloquem bokashi e adubo para flores. A minha floresceu assim
Can you talk about dischidiopsis parasitica being sold as Hoya shepherdii all across Europe.

@@BasiePlants Mine too I got duped there's a lot of them out there.
Just 2 days ago saw April from UnsolicitedPlanttalks bloom this plant. That is on January 1st 2022
Yes, I saw it too :) Much easier to bloom and grow when it is grown in a greenhouse. It is not really a plant for a windowsill.
@@BasiePlants yes. Happy New Year
salve mi piacerebbe comprarla ma dove trovarla ????? io sono in italia -veneto grazie
A minha floresceu. A terceira no Brssil a florescer❤

So what would be the proper way to write the name of this plant? Yes, nothing ever is easy with plants, even the names 😅
@@BasiePlants Hoya lauterbachii! Sections are not mentioned in the name. :)
Thanks :) That's what I thought, but never hurts to check again. Thank you for watching too. ☺️
