  • In this video I had taken my Great Planes Ultra Sport 1000 that I had built with a Saito FG21 and replaced the engine with a DLE30 side exhaust. I explain the fiberglass cowl that I had made based off the original built up balsa nose surrounding the Saito FG21 previously. A few work in progress photos to include adding additional monokote trim scheme to complete the look all before we head on out to the field for its remained. So sit back relax and enjoy this video of the Great Planes Ultra Sport 1000 powered by a DLE30 Spinning a Xoar CF 18X10 prop. The total weight of the aircraft is at 11lbs 6oz. I have a question about an AT 6 Texan gold addition from Topflight. I watched you video on the P51 build but didn't see how you built the fire wall. I got this plane from a swap meet and it appears to me that the previous engine was mounted to left side or right side if you are looking at it from the front....off center line from center of the fuse by about 1/2 inch, in fact the the whole thicker wood to stiffen fire wall is to one side. is there a reason for this? Question #2 I want to run a DLE 20 rear exhaust but the muffler is going to interfere with the wooden ring of the cowling mount....this is substantial being app.3/4 inch thick....could I cut this out of the bottom and patch it up to fit in the muffler?

      As far as one side of the firewall having thicker material could be from the builder and what his reasons being not sure. As for the rear exhaust could you use a spacer plate on the firewall to bring out the engine alittle more so that the exhaust would clear the ring? If not then you can cut the slots to allow the exhaust tubes to exit or if the whole exhaust needs to clear the bottom ring then cut the bottom of the ring to allow exhaust to properly sit. The ring is to allow for cowl mounting blocks and support for cowl attachment. If you remove the bottom portion you just won't have a cowl mounting block there.

      Thanks for the quick reply; I guess I didn't explain the fire wall clear enough. The fire wall has a thicker piece of plywood mounted to the former of the fire wall but it is mounted of center to the left. The engine was also mounted off to the left of the of the fuse center line....could reason being for this to off set for right thrust....was yourP51 engine set of to the left of the center line also?

      @BayonasRCWorld  10 месяцев назад

      @79palamino based on the plans I do not see any additional piece of plywood before the engine mount. So with that said it would seem that the original builder used a piece of ply to act as a spacer to extend his engine and engine mount further forward. Perhaps he was using a 2 stroke 60 size engine for the set up. Otherwise if using a 4 stroke 120 or gas engine you probably would not need that spacer in place. The main firewall already has it's right thrust angle built in if viewing from the top down of the fuselage.

    I would love to see how you design your graphics and setup for your cutting machine. I just purchased a Cricut and in struggling to get everything lined up and to scale. Thanks!

      I did a short video on how I cut my designs on the Cricut. It is not much since I was still learning at the time. The Cricut is my wife's and so I was just dabbling with it.

      Yes, it is. One piece and also can be built as a clipped wing version.
