Something I found neat about the Switch remake is that Absol had more characterization even after joining the team, and the same is applied to the partner in the postgame. It was a nice addition to breathe a bit more life into those characters even after joining the team.
Dude, your humor and passion are equally in sync. Love it. Also, mad good irony that you got a Normal type as your character. That’s a great contrast to Gengar, like they can’t “touch” each other, since they’re both human. Just a coincidence, but I love shit like that.
Fun fact, in PSMD, the recruitment system allows you to meet up with one Pokémon of each species/unique form, in some cases featuring Pokémon from previous games in the series, through a mechanic called the Connection Orb, which shows links between different Pokémon - For instance, Grovyle being linked to a Shiny Celebi, being the same two from Explorers. In Gengar's case, he has a direct link to Ekans and Gardevoir, the latter of whom is linked up to the Medicham and Lopunny of Team Charm, meaning Gardevoir from Rescue Team and the Gardevoir of Team Charm in Explorers are the same individual - It's somewhat implied that Team Meanies didn't actually get back together in the end, and Medicham and Gardevoir went on to form Team Charm together after the events of the game! PSMD has some neat details like that, and while there are certain mechanics from the older games that I prefer to Super's, the Connection Orb especially feels like a love letter to the series as a whole. Would recommend giving it a shot if you ever consider picking it up :0
Another cool one in the connection orb is when you get a mission where you meet up with Ninetales. Absol shows up, and they talk about how they met another human like you a long time ago. Outside of the connection orb, I like how all the continents in the game are based on the continents from all the previous games (with the exception of the water continent). Air is the RT one, Grass is the Explorers one, Mist is the Gates one, and I think Sand is the one from the Japan-exclusive WiiWare ones, though I'm not 100% sure. Super really did feel like Chunsoft's swan song to the PMD series.
@@RednekGamurz glad to see some PSMD love, it isn't a perfect game (I remember a big critisism being that the 1st half drags a lot), but it was my first proper introduction to the series after my brother caught me playing his copy of explorers of sky as a kid😆😆
@@Pippylo.l I honestly disagree about the first half. Yeah, it's not as exciting as the second half, but the more laidback vibe is really nice, and gives time for character development, especially for the partner. It's a good reminder for the kind of peace you and your partner are fighting to protect in the second half. I actually mostly played the games in order (with Gates being the exception, being the one I played last), and Super's my favorite, even if RT is the first one I played, and I had a fantastic time on my first playthrough of Explorers.
@@RednekGamurz i agree full heartedly, that's just what I've heard before from others who've talked about Super. I already know this is gonna be a banger video. This guy has made some of the best video game videos and I just suddenly decided to re-watch one. To my surprise, there's a new one on one of my favorite childhood games. We're in for a treat.
maybe i'm just hormonal but this made me ugly cry. the way you talk about games reminds me why i love games in the first place. these are the kinds of stories and feelings you just can't get anywhere else. it really is like hanging out with an old friend. just one thing - i wish you'd stop apologizing for gushing or being earnest or "cringe". cringe is dead, man. you're cool. we all feel the same way. love your videos
This is one of my girlfriend’s favorite games, but I didn’t grow up with pokemon, so it’s been a weird cultural gap for the two of us, I just really want to thank you for helping me get a grasp on what made this so special. I can’t imagine playing this as a little kid, I would have cried for days at that ending. This video is a real contender for your best one so far, it feels like you’ve really honed what makes your stuff great.
I cant explain how much this video has moved me. Pokemon Mystery dungeon was my very first game in the series before black and white or diamond and pearl. I remember how much this game meant to me, the experiences i had. The tears i shed once defeating the ending. While i still play pokemon to this day, i often go back to the sprite games like Mystery dungeon. It was my introduction to the series and will always be my favorite, and watching this video made me put in my blue rescue team. As i played it all over again, and cried at the ending once more. While i originally had red rescue team was my first one. I did buy blue resuce team as a kid with my own money. Lute, i wanna say thank you. This video and the rest are amazingly done, but this one will always be my favorite.
i play this or Explorers of Sky about once a year. it gives me that warm, expanding feeling in my chest that i get when i see an old friend or think about a hug I got outside a Cracker Barrel years ago. it's so earnest and optimistic, and it makes me want to get out in the world and meet people and make art and do brave things. and also "Great Canyon" is a Constitutionally-ratified JAM
I regret not giving these games a chance as a kid. But I played Explorers of Time as an adult and it still broke me. I'll never forget how much this series means to me now. Better late than never!
Listening to the bit about the town residents made me look up and stare directly at the little Gulpin plush sitting across the room. I have never felt more called out in my life. Another banger vid that's gonna live rent free in my head for a while. Absolutely wonderful job!
That part at the end about revisiting videogames you played a long time ago as if they were old friends... nothing brings me more comfort than Super Mario Galaxy!
The vibes were immaculate. I laughed, I (almost) cried, I went and added some of your other videos to my watch later list. I always love finding videos like yours, this was an absolute treasure.
Found your video while searching for PMD stuff and what a treasure this is. You got some legitimate laughs out of me, but I love how much heart is also on display- which is totally appropriate since PMD is just oozing with charm and good feelings. I personally prefer the second set of games, but this was a really nice recap of what makes the first titles so special, too. I don’t usually go for long format videos, but it’s so refreshing to see such an authentic look at a series that’s very dear to me :’)
All this time, I had zero idea the Gengar subplot actually wrapped up in the original game(s). I thought they added it to the remake on Switch as a way to give long-time fans some closure on his and Gardevoir's story since bro really did just leave after helping us get back to the group after Sky Tower. Happy for the both of them
Red Rescue Team's ending is one of the only segments in media that have ever made me cry (even to this day), and I think that made your comment on it potentially being a sort of meta commentary on how people view games they complete really resonate with me. There's plenty of games that I enjoyed plenty but will likely never play again for various reasons, which makes the games that I can easily replay from start to finish (like Red Rescue Team!) feel that much more special to me.
A friend recommended your channel, this vid specifically and holy fuck am I glad they did. That was such a refreshing view of a game I love so dearly, can't wait to see what else you do in the future. :0
It's really cool to find out about another game that's 'Klonoa like' in storytelling. Especially with the post game, what a cool and feel-good way to contextualize that, really rewarding for those who feel they don't want to leave a gameworld just yet.
Man I actually shed multiple tears watching this I have zero connection to this game but seeing your relationship with it is so goddamn beautiful And god the story is so heart wrenching I know this seems like a really overblown reaction but I can assure you this is genuine Great video man
this video is Incredible. i didn't know a pokemon spinoff could be so good (i never had much interest in pokemon), and the story was great and very different from what i imagined a game like this would have. The jokes were funny, and when you talk about how much this game is important to you, it's so genuine! especially the small talk at end made me emotional. This video was good all around and worth the wait :)
My most precious channel, please continue uploading shit like this, absolutely kino. I can honestly only recommend the other PMD games, especially Super Mystery Dungeon which is criminally underrated (though Explorers of Sky will probably remain the "objective" peak of the series).
The first time I played a Mystery Dungeon game, I got Meowth as my player and Mudkip as my starter. This made me really happy to see them again, I have so many fond memories of this series. :)
this game meant so much to me growing up, i remember one of the last things i did being recruiting mewtwo and prepping to recruit celebi before my copy of the game was stolen out of my backpack at school, never found out who took it. anyway yeah what a damn masterpiece
I actually lost it when you made the joke about falling off. But this is still a great video I actually pulled out my portable emulator to play the game while listening to you
This is a very sweet little video. I really can tell that you care about this game a lot, and that's really cool. I've played bits and pieces of this game before, but only the first few dungeons so I have never gotten to the proper meat of the game, but I'll probably try it out again eventually. On the subject of roguelikes, I was thinking about what you said about this being your introduction to roguelikes, and it kind of got me thinking about my own introduction to the genre. I have some older cousins, and two of them in particular are big nerds for PC games. I remember being like 10 years old and having my older cousins tell me about these weird games where you lost all of your progress when you died and the levels were procedurally generated, and it blew my little mind because I had never really played anything like that and I found the notion of permadeath absurd. The first roguelike I ever watched my older cousins play was Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, a pretty traditional roguelike experience. I think its interesting to think about how our initial introductions to a concept shape how we engage with it. Like, how differently would I engage with the genre if I started with Mystery Dungeon? On a slightly different note, roguelike storytelling is kind of interesting because most roguelikes don't really focus on it. At least, they usually don't have much in the way of distinct characters, with arcs, in a non-mechanical sense. It makes sense, it would be really cumbersome to have to experience the same dialogue over and over again if your progress reset. In that regard, PMD is very interesting because it does commit to a fully story, which is something you don't really see often in this style of game, and from the sounds of it, its actually quite well written and I enjoyed hearing about it. Once again, great and cozy video!
Btw, the reason the first MD game was a Dragon Quest spinoff, was that Chunsoft were the original developers of the Dragon Quest games, back when they were owned by Enix. They also made Portopia Murder Case, which is literally the first visual novel!
Super Mystery Dungeon was my first one and I honestly was caught of guard by how attached I got to my partner pokemon. It also carried over to explorers of Darkness. I haven’t beaten that one yet but I got to the end game parts and I know that ending will destroy me despite knowing what will happen
The ending of this game is actually true, your role as a pokemon IS over, because the game has ended, and you DO have to return to the human realm, but still, you will never forget your partner.
The ending of the main story always makes me almost cry and made cry the first time I played it. Its always nice to know others have had a similar experience.
Red Rescue Team's rescue codes got me regularly posting on my first forum way back when and absolutely set me on a path leading me to where I am today. Truly an important game to me, and this video had me laughing so much too. I don't think I could begin to explain how much fun this was for me, thank you for making it
There is something about the last Gardevoir dream sequence line that I never see get talked about. When I played this game when I was young, the game assigned me the "timid" personality. In the personality description, it mentions that "those who know fear are those who know true courage." When Gardevoir mentions in that dream that you were brought into the world as a hero, because "what we sought was not power merely for display, we sought true courge"... holy shit. That blew my fucking mind how the game was able to reference my reason (personality) for playing my character that late into the game. Like that portal to the pokemon world at the beginning was real and because I knew true courage, I was chosen to save this world and become a pokemon. Call it silly but it felt like validation that I chose to play this game and become a hero. Next level immersion for this kind of game. And the shame is that this special connection only seems to apply if you get the "timid" personality. I wished the game did something similar with all the personalities you can get, but this little connection will forever be part of my experience with this game and I'm thankful for it.
I've been playing through the game recently, and I still get emotional watching some of those cutscenes. I'm sure like a lot of people these games were my first taste of randomness and roguelikes, which led to it being one of my favorite genres. On this watch though I noticed Gengar mention the "irreplaceable friend" relation to Gardevoir, which mirrors our relation to our partner pokemon in this game.
really fantastic video. the bit at the end where you talk about it feeling like something you can always come back to and see your old friends and relive this story really resonated with me. these games just have such a genuine sense of wonder and adventure to them, i feel like they occupy the same niche of things like Treasure Island did in their own time. Something that you can read/play as a kid but still enjoy on that same genuine level as an adult because of just how resonant their stories are, who doesn't love a tale of a grand adventure with a loyal friend. especially as someone who was deep in the trenches of like, the PMD RP boards and fanfic communities and shit back in the day I always just get such a way fuzzy feeling replaying them. also the remake of this game was actually so great. unlike a lot of the other recent pokemon games it actually had an ART STYLE. groundbreaking stuff. like they replicated the watercolor artwork from the original box art and menus it's sweet. the gameplay upgrades are also really fantastic (and if you do want to play it without giving nintendo any cash it plays perfect on Yuzu). i totally get liking the original sprites better though okay last thing i promise but you gotta play gates to infinity dude that game is peak. the writing and characters and setting are the best in the series and you get to build a little town it's so great. also dunsparce is in it
WOO! I have the God Tier Pink Floyd album! I think I'm going to have to give this one another try; I played it a while back, and couldn't get into it, even though I did enjoy Castle of the Winds, the Chocobo's Dungeon games, and other similar titles. Fantastic video, as always; your work inspires me.
Lute you're slowly becoming one of my most favorite creators over these past few bangers you made about Megaman X4, Tail Concerto (not the game specifically, but how you were looking back at the PS1 and PS2 libraries to check out the games you missed out on, something I'm doing alot with my spare time too. Your video got me to play it too!) and now Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, these games hold such a big part of my heart for being a core memory of my childhood, and every single video you make of them does great justice to them, no over the top editing but great quips thrown here and there, and you do a great job at showing the magic of the games you review.
5:16 As someone who also loves Yuru Camp and who currently has it on in the background while I watch this, I appreciate your consistency with posting at least one image from that show in your videos. Comfy vibes, all around
This is a certified hood classic. I honestly didn't know the dude who wrote the OST for this game contributed to IIDX[two-dx]/Pop'n so that was news to me.
Thank you for another cool ass video. Loved your analyses of the main story and post game endings. This was a really cozy revisit of this game for me, and I appreciate that. I remember loving Blue Rescue Team when I played the shit out of it for the first time when I was like 9 or 10. Despite that, I never really revisited the game again or even played any of the other PMD games. It's especially weird, because I'm really into many rogue-likes nowadays (mostly the popular shit everyone has played like BoI, Hades, Gungeon, etc lol). I think I will finally emulate Explorers of the Sky now because I've been putting that off for too damn long. That game is so frequently recommended to me. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!!
If you like PMD, there's also a ton of other non-Pokemon mystery dungeon games, many of which were made by Spike Chunsoft as well. The Shiren games and Etrian Mystery Dungeon being excellent ones made by Spike Chunsoft. Compared to the Pokemon titles, these games normally have a much higher difficulty curve, and feature some kind of crafting or equipment melding system. Greater emphasis on traps or gimmicks. It appeals to certain individuals. Gensou Wanderer is a personal favorite (developed by Aquasoft), but it mostly appeals to touhou nerds.
The best channel I’ve found in a while thanks so much dude. Never thought I’d find a good new video essay channel that doesn’t sound like a cheery chatgpt reading. You sound like you listen to chapo but with the sense of humor of pre 2013 Internet rly cool
Glad this showed up in my sidebar, I love this game. Also strongly vibe with the whole: liking the interior redesign, but not the my face is now my house renovation. Great video, thanks.
I definitely agree with the games being like old friends. I'll tl;dr but in 2019 I went homeless for a year or so and all I had was a crap laptop and it's charger while I was staying here and there doing errands for making ends meet. Before I lost internet contact, I got a bunch of retro games downloaded to play and this was one of them. The whole message hits hard and despite all the shit I went through, it's crazy I got to experience this (and other games like the Mother trilogy, OFF, Space Funeral and etc) only bc I had literally no other option to play something else or I'd go insane. Your video reawakened that (good) part of the whole situation and I'm grateful for that. Great video.
your videos are the perfect mix of silly happy fun time AND some sentimentality. whenever I watch a video of yours I come away feeling AWESOME. anyways I love this stuff ur epic
Dude, the ending in these games hit incredibly hard for me, as someone who has trouble with change and goodbyes, it’s always gut punching seeing people going through these games and getting to the ending. I really want to play one of these games for myself. (I currently have my eyes on Explorers of Sky)
Fun fact, the game Fatal Labyrinth did the roguelike/mystery dungeon genre on consoles in 1990-1991 on the Sega Genesis, earlier than Shiren the Wanderer.
Man Imma go and download Red and Blue and Explorers rn bc Ive still never played them fully to this day, such a charming bunch of games. Ik this is an early comment but I love your stuff and how genuine you are with everything you cover, it feels really cozy.❤️
words can’t describe this game. it was my introduction to both console games and rpgs when i was around 6-7 years old (i am now 24) on my red ds lite. it really impacted me as a kid and i notice it somewhat affected my perception of people (aside from childhood trauma): the unsettling nature of gengar, the questioning of identity and purpose by gardevoir, the unpredictability of the natural world, the relief points with deity-like figures like ninetales and other legendaries letting us know we are so brave, the companionship of your partner and from the others in town square. the emotional impact this game had on me- now i realize the time for sensitivity is needed more than ever in this world. ego is taking over and this game quite honestly, breaks down your ego, maybe even more so if you played it as a kid imo. i’m so fortunate that it was my first true video game experience. also, i plan to get into the mother series. i’ve known about it for a long time but never delved into it, and i find many similarities with it and this series. beautiful game and none will be just like it (explorers as well). i agree, i love you too mystery dungeon!! ♡
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Undertale / Deltarune were the games that impacted me the most during my childhood. I got into the Mother series during the last few years and it truly gave me a really similar feeling. To me, these games and their stories feel like they are trying to make you remember to always be the best person you can possibly be, not only for yourself but for others as well, and that is something really valuable to me. I really love all of these games ^^
ive never played this game, and english isn't my native language so when i was a kid most of the games that i had were basically an enigma. at the time i couldn't know how much was subtracted from the experience of playing a cool story driven game, but there were exceptions. i had a stuart little game for my ps2 and somehow it was dubbed in portuguese from portugal, which was weird but understandable, and just because of the fact that i could interact with the characters and hear what they had to say was a big part of why i like video games so much. your videos are really nice dude and i think you're cool. i actually never played any pokemon game in my life. which is probably odd but this video actually made me tear up and really consider playing it. thanks man for real. although i will probably cry while playing it lol (also one of the best moments of this site was that part in one of your videos that you said that few things hit the spot like a ryo fukui album and a pack of good menthol cigarettes late at night that shit is true lol) thanks for making your videos! it makes the world a better place.
Man the part where you said I practically used to have encyclopedic knowledge on these fuckers up to a certain point but slowly fell out of the series hit home lol. Another banger video btw, always love the vibe of the videos.
The ending still makes me tear up, even though I'm not the one playing and I already know what happens. Just goes to show how good these games really are.
High-five for Torkoal-loving Bros. Love that turtle. Easily one of my favorite fire types. I think having a high-defense fire type is pretty nifty (Magcargo is cool too), and White Smoke was such a dope idea for an Ability back in the day. A pity it doesn't really work with Overheat, but it's still a cool idea.
The newer Switch one is more of a requel than a remake. It mixes the Rescue Team story with the mechanics of the Explorers games, minor tweaks from the eShop games, redoes the town layout, a few story beats were tweaked to make room for some additional content but not enough to change their meaning. There's a second post-game story on top of the usual post-game story of a PMMD, AND the usual massive post-postgame grind for the final boss. It's overall a better game, even if the 3d models take away from it's charm a bit.
Thank you, Lute. I'm not suspecting you to be the type that does this for the attention, but for what it's worth you deserve an audience as large as you hope to reach. You radiate so much love and soul when you speak on what you care about, it's a sincerity sorely lacking in most mediums and while kinda cringeworthy I did just want to take a moment to say thank you for doing what you do. 😎 rock on or whatever, keep being you

You should check out Explorers of Sky and PSMD. They're challenging games but they're _incredibly_ rewarding.
Its astonishing how silly and heartfelt you can make your videos without being too much of either. Im so glad i found your channel.
The chicago bulls were the best team in like the ninetys but I appreciate the effort
I’m trying.
I really appreiciate pretty hate machine in the thumbnail
i play this or Explorers of Sky about once a year. it gives me that warm, expanding feeling in my chest that i get when i see an old friend or think about a hug I got outside a Cracker Barrel years ago. it's so earnest and optimistic, and it makes me want to get out in the world and meet people and make art and do brave things. and also "Great Canyon" is a Constitutionally-ratified JAM
Same, same
I regret not giving these games a chance as a kid.
That's such a heartwarming way to look at it.
I don’t usually go for long format videos, but it’s so refreshing to see such an authentic look at a series that’s very dear to me :’)
p.s. I just noticed the thumbnail has Pretty Hate Machine for the bg 😂 good stuff
Man I actually shed multiple tears watching this
I have zero connection to this game but seeing your relationship with it is so goddamn beautiful
And god the story is so heart wrenching
I know this seems like a really overblown reaction but I can assure you this is genuine
Great video man
Homies make like 10 perfect videos with hundreds of thousands of views and only have like 3 subscribers.
My heart is warmed by this game eternally.
nitrorad jumpscare gave me a good laugh
Ah, a game I've never played, but you've really sold me on the idea. This seems like a pretty charming experience.
this video is Incredible. i didn't know a pokemon spinoff could be so good (i never had much interest in pokemon), and the story was great and very different from what i imagined a game like this would have. The jokes were funny, and when you talk about how much this game is important to you, it's so genuine! especially the small talk at end made me emotional. This video was good all around and worth the wait :)
Glad you learned of the glory
I have been a fan of PMD since I was 9 years old, and I have never been apart of a fandom so relatively small yet so passionate. It is really nice.
exactly the obsure music jokes are good :)))
E aí João. Que engraçado te encontrar por essas bandas além das lives do Alex kkkkk e realmente, os spin-offs de Pokémon são outro nível
My most precious channel, please continue uploading shit like this, absolutely kino. I can honestly only recommend the other PMD games, especially Super Mystery Dungeon which is criminally underrated (though Explorers of Sky will probably remain the "objective" peak of the series).
this is a certified comfort video now, i dont make the rules
The first time I played a Mystery Dungeon game, I got Meowth as my player and Mudkip as my starter. This made me really happy to see them again, I have so many fond memories of this series. :)
I love the way you talk I wish you had more videos
this game meant so much to me growing up, i remember one of the last things i did being recruiting mewtwo and prepping to recruit celebi before my copy of the game was stolen out of my backpack at school, never found out who took it. anyway yeah what a damn masterpiece
Isn’t Portopia just an adventure game?
5:54 Yes... many hours of resets all invested into becoming a Piplup/Shinx....
Super Mystery Dungeon was my first one and I honestly was caught of guard by how attached I got to my partner pokemon. It also carried over to explorers of Darkness. I haven’t beaten that one yet but I got to the end game parts and I know that ending will destroy me despite knowing what will happen
Oh my god the end game of Explorers is devastating. I’ll legit fire it up if I need an ugly cry. It does everything Rescue Team does but better.
The ending of this game is actually true, your role as a pokemon IS over, because the game has ended, and you DO have to return to the human realm, but still, you will never forget your partner.
And I love that that's why the second you boot up the game again, it's why you come back
This video is refueling my love for the game, im gonna explode from excitement about this series
I agree. Sure it's "extra" work, but it'd be so worth that extra effort.
Thank you once again Lute for letting me feel like im 12 again hanging out with a 15 year old showing me games he has :3
really fantastic video. the bit at the end where you talk about it feeling like something you can always come back to and see your old friends and relive this story really resonated with me. these games just have such a genuine sense of wonder and adventure to them, i feel like they occupy the same niche of things like Treasure Island did in their own time. Something that you can read/play as a kid but still enjoy on that same genuine level as an adult because of just how resonant their stories are, who doesn't love a tale of a grand adventure with a loyal friend. especially as someone who was deep in the trenches of like, the PMD RP boards and fanfic communities and shit back in the day I always just get such a way fuzzy feeling replaying them.
also the remake of this game was actually so great. unlike a lot of the other recent pokemon games it actually had an ART STYLE. groundbreaking stuff. like they replicated the watercolor artwork from the original box art and menus it's sweet. the gameplay upgrades are also really fantastic (and if you do want to play it without giving nintendo any cash it plays perfect on Yuzu). i totally get liking the original sprites better though
okay last thing i promise but you gotta play gates to infinity dude that game is peak. the writing and characters and setting are the best in the series and you get to build a little town it's so great. also dunsparce is in it
To this day I quote that entire vid from the beginning. It was like a meme before the word meme was known.
28:49 hawk tuah it’s the prey
"Pokemon Mystery Science Theater 3000" made me laugh harder than it should've. Awesome video like always.
"Take charge of your destiny!”
Holy KINO and SOUL
I always used a pikachu partner that is set to follow me hardcore, and a disabled discharge, then turn it on to wipe monster houses.
Yo don't shit on bellsprout... Bellsprout is da man, catch it on every leaf green run
Legit you are one of my favorite RUclipsrs man. Love this content
Worn out pokemon preview VHS to waiting for black metal records in the mail pipeline
lmfao
great now i can't unsee the rubber chicken
lol
So fucking cozy I love watching your vids everytime they drop, never stop being this passionate, ever
your videos are the perfect mix of silly happy fun time AND some sentimentality. whenever I watch a video of yours I come away feeling AWESOME. anyways I love this stuff ur epic
This video made me cry, thank you
Lute dissing the Pokémon Ranger games felt like a heart attack, aka: it was Super Effective and very painful.
Dude, the ending in these games hit incredibly hard for me, as someone who has trouble with change and goodbyes, it’s always gut punching seeing people going through these games and getting to the ending. I really want to play one of these games for myself. (I currently have my eyes on Explorers of Sky)
These original games were frankly amazing, very mature story overall, absolutely shattered me back in the day
Fun fact, the game Fatal Labyrinth did the roguelike/mystery dungeon genre on consoles in 1990-1991 on the Sega Genesis, earlier than Shiren the Wanderer.
Man Imma go and download Red and Blue and Explorers rn bc Ive still never played them fully to this day, such a charming bunch of games. Ik this is an early comment but I love your stuff and how genuine you are with everything you cover, it feels really cozy.❤️
18:34 maybe the spearows build their nests in between the cracks of mt steel. Like birds irl do.
words can’t describe this game. it was my introduction to both console games and rpgs when i was around 6-7 years old (i am now 24) on my red ds lite. it really impacted me as a kid and i notice it somewhat affected my perception of people (aside from childhood trauma): the unsettling nature of gengar, the questioning of identity and purpose by gardevoir, the unpredictability of the natural world, the relief points with deity-like figures like ninetales and other legendaries letting us know we are so brave, the companionship of your partner and from the others in town square. the emotional impact this game had on me- now i realize the time for sensitivity is needed more than ever in this world. ego is taking over and this game quite honestly, breaks down your ego, maybe even more so if you played it as a kid imo. i’m so fortunate that it was my first true video game experience.
also, i plan to get into the mother series. i’ve known about it for a long time but never delved into it, and i find many similarities with it and this series. beautiful game and none will be just like it (explorers as well). i agree, i love you too mystery dungeon!!
I really love all of these games ^^
ive never played this game, and english isn't my native language so when i was a kid most of the games that i had were basically an enigma.
at the time i couldn't know how much was subtracted from the experience of playing a cool story driven game, but there were exceptions. i had a stuart little game for my ps2 and somehow it was dubbed in portuguese from portugal, which was weird but understandable, and just because of the fact that i could interact with the characters and hear what they had to say was a big part of why i like video games so much. your videos are really nice dude and i think you're cool.
i actually never played any pokemon game in my life. which is probably odd but this video actually made me tear up and really consider playing it. thanks man for real.
although i will probably cry while playing it lol
(also one of the best moments of this site was that part in one of your videos that you said that few things hit the spot like a ryo fukui album and a pack of good menthol cigarettes late at night that shit is true lol)
thanks for making your videos! it makes the world a better place.
You always sell these games in such a fun and engaging manner. I’m always so conflicted to keep watching or go play😭
Man the part where you said I practically used to have encyclopedic knowledge on these fuckers up to a certain point but slowly fell out of the series hit home lol. Another banger video btw, always love the vibe of the videos.
This and Running Shine are on the same exact wavelength.
"Ray Kwanzaa" sounds like a fake name in an Eric Andre skit. You're a very funny boy.
The ending still makes me tear up, even though I'm not the one playing and I already know what happens. Just goes to show how good these games really are.
Man. I remember reading the Guide before I got Red for the GBA. Glad to see Mudkip the one I got on the thumbnail. Good times....
High-five for Torkoal-loving Bros.
Love that turtle. Easily one of my favorite fire types. I think having a high-defense fire type is pretty nifty (Magcargo is cool too), and White Smoke was such a dope idea for an Ability back in the day. A pity it doesn't really work with Overheat, but it's still a cool idea.
jesus, incredibly underrated channel. consider me subscribed.
34:51 That also kept me up at night wondering if the townsfolk was holding Magnemite hostage
Watching a new lute video is like having your birthday on christmas. Except your family is super cool and actually gives you twice the presents.
I would say the mechanics introduced in DX is much more similar to Super Mystery Dungeon than Explorers.
This was an incredible watch. Had me crying at the end, not gonna lie. Thank you for this. :)
Flowers to you dude what an amazing video
Thank you!
Im just here for that soundtrack goddamn. Even the friend area themes are slappers
I love your earnest love for Video Games. This was a treat. Thank you for letting me hang with you.
Peak, now explorers in sky and time.
😎 rock on or whatever, keep being you
I laughed at the weanies part... What does that say about me. 😅
