- Recently named "model kit of the year", MiniArt's P-47D (kit No. 48009) has gotten a lot of press lately. In this sneak peak video, we'll take a look at the CAD images, we'll talk about the detail on the engine and other small parts, we'll looking at the marking options as well as the surface detail, etc. I have ordered this kit and I'll do a full in-box review when it arrives. Additionally, I'll do a build log and final review video once I complete the build to let you know if there are any problem areas to watch out for, as well as how this kit compares to other P-47 kits from Tamiya and Hasegawa. What are my initial impressions? Let's find out together!

Right on, Chris! I've completed the Monogram P-47 years ago and have several other P-47s in the stash. This kit is unlike any P-47 that has gone before. We'll see if that's a good thing. Cheers!
What a surprise. I just watched A video of Plasmo building this kit yesterday.
I'm definitely checking out other builds before starting. Tom Cleaver has done several written reviews of this kit on www.modelingmadness.com and I value his opinions. I hope to make some progress today. Cheers!
Well that is some amazing detail for this scale and I can see where rivet counters could loose their minds, but that engine detail looks amazing! Does the kit offer a way to show that off? Be a shame to hide that under a cowling. Looking forward Jon you’re gonna be busy for awhile! Thanks!
I guess you can leave some cowling pieces off. I'll have to see how the cowl is designed when I get there. The "advanced" kit is the one to get if you're building it opened up. Cheers!
Hey Jon, this really does look like a tough one. Not sure where model manufactures get the idea of rivet intensity, 1/48 is not the Titanic :-). Parts heavy is certainly a key word these days. I did gamble and bought a 1/72 FW Condor Revell the other day, opening the box I realized I'm probably going to have to order some surgical tools to help build the darn thing. Where did the days go when ya could get a great Aurora kit with two sprues and do a weekend build. Thanks for the reference on Squadron. I surfed the site and they do have a great selection and good priming. Your build out of this kit might help me understand how to build this Condor. Oh, at least you have a checkerboard nose art decal. I had to paint one by hand when I made my Old Crow many years ago. 😀 Cheers and Model on, Bob
Hello Jon, Miniart is a great brand, I have been able to build an M3 Lee tank (35214) the kit was a real pleasure, many details for the edition without interior, there are few details to pay attention to but the result is great, I have it in my stash a T54B with a complete interior, what a job I'll have there hahahahaha.
Returning to Miniart's P47, I hope you make step-by-step videos, it is an interesting model compared to those on the market, in fact, whether it is the Academy, Tamiya or Hasegawa, they all go hand in hand in terms of details or errors, however this Miniart is from last year, it should have a plus, that will only be known when putting it together.
The basic edition for me is the right one and I don't require more, the advanced edition I think is for someone who wants to compete.

Hi Jon. I have the Mini Art P-47D-25 RE and in my opinion, all those rivets (small holes) are as pretty to the eye, as overdone where compared to the actual aircraft, which in fact, is smooth (flush rivets). In comparison with the Hasegawa and Tamiya offerings, the panel lines are a bit overdone. On the "pro" side, I hope that the Tamiya faults are fixed (canopy side shape and engine cowling conical appearance when viewed from above). I look forward to viewing your build ! 😊

The Tamiya flaws you mention ARE fixed on the Mini Art, but the one Mini Art prop offered has an undersized hub, and it is also oversized in diameter by 8". You will have to use the much better Tamiya props on it... Another problem is that you should get the "Advanced" version, to pose the wing flaps lowered, as the basic ONLY allows "flaps up" and they absolutely fit poorly up!!!

@@giovannimusacchi2949 You're welcome. Another tip is to assemble the cowl away from the engine, then trim the tabs on the engine frames to treat it a a one piece slide-on part. That saves a lot of trouble. Treating all the tabs with suspicion also prevents trouble.
@@wrathofatlantis2316 Thanks for the heads-up! I did notice the flap gaps on other builds. If it's too pronounced on my build, I'll address it. I'll look into a replacement prop as well. Cheers!
Hi Jon. Curious to hear your views on the new P-47. I've heard a few modellers grumble about the clear parts but that was early on after the release of the kit.
We shall see. I'm sure it will be riveting (groan! -sorry, it's Punday morning here😁).

Evidently, MiniArt a producer of some high-end armor kits and this is their first 1/48 aircraft kit. I'm impressed so far! Cheers
