Adding the map as you entered Tory sound was really helpful. It was nice to have a map to help get one’s bearings as well as the beautiful scenery and helpful captions. Excellently presented video

P.S. One of the captions should read Rosslare to Pembroke Dock. Pembroke and Pembroke Dock are two entirely separate towns a few miles separate from each. Pembroke itself is inland with big castle where King Henry VII was born. I live in Pembrokeshire and the people in that part of the county are very particular about the separation of the two towns.

As a New Zealander, I really enjoyed the trip from your tourists point of view. You presented it beautifully andI now feel like a holiday ! What I found most interesting is that I travelled a lot in the 140s and 50s especially on those journeys and it all looks so modern and new now compared. It was so quiet back then without all the tourists but nice to see so many enjoying it . Thanks 🥰

Great video. Really well done. Beautiful scenery. I only got to spend a week on north island in 2009. Always wanted to go back to New Zealand some day. My father loved it after we went to Australia. He said that New Zealand was green and wet like Ireland. This is where he would prefer.
I travelled on Mersey Viking few times between Belfast and Liverpool. Amazing to see where she is now.
    Super video. Well done. Thanks.

I love the approach to Picton, so beautiful. Marlborough wine country is worth a tour in itself. Love Wellington, not too big , not too small, just right. Catch that cable car tram to the top, enjoy the views then stroll down through the Botanic Gardens, bliss. Thanks for the beautiful video.

I last did all this 10 years ago, and travelled the Christchurch - Picton - Wellington run three times (2007 - 2010): twice by Interislander on the Kaitaki and once by Bluebridge. The trains back then were the Tranz Coastal from Chch to Picton, and the Overlander from Wellington to Auckland. DC class locomotives were standard motive power on both trains, as opposed to the DFT we see in Wellington station in your video.😮
I also videoed trains around Wellington and Auckland as well as a bit of activity around Chch before the first earthquake.

I live in Wellington and I've done countless trips across the Strait over the past 60+ years. You might want to try the crossing on a typically windy, choppy day. NIce video that give Me some pride at being a New Zealander. The ferries could do with an outside clean-up. Thanx!

What a cruel suggestion to a poor unsuspecting tourist. I still remember that choppy crossing - feeling green, lying on the bed in the cabin our friend the purser had told us to get. The cat didn’t enjoy that trip either. How does a Siamese cat turn green?!

I'm a New Zealander. My wife and i had an unpleasant experience on this vessel in January 2017 on the Picton to Wellington sailing
when i complained in the nicest possible way to a woman and her kids bumping our aircraft type seats continually. I was 76yo.
The husband/father returned to the seating area and threatened me with violence. He was about 50yo. We complained to the Pursers office but nothing was done about it. This is typical of some New Zealanders (males) who often take umbridge over the slightest situation and resort to using their fists to resolve the problem. For a small country there is a lot of violence here, tourists generally are unaware of this until they unexpectedly become a victim. Including, when driving on NZ roads, New Zealand drivers can get very angry over the slightest mishap and explode with road rage. It is my opinion, all ferry sailings between the islands should have a Police Officer on board considering the large numbers of passengers travelling, and the crew should not have to deal with disturbances,
such as what happened to my wife and I. Visitors to New Zealand, BEWARE. I am a New Zealander, 79yo.

The actual ferry part is only Picton to Wellington. There used to be a ferry from Christchurch to Wellington but it was canned with the arrival of regular flights in the 1970s becoming cheaper and also the 1968 Wahine tragedy. It is always a nice trip and the trains are nice, but its hit and miss with the services, especially in our winter months. You may have also noticed that in March our daylight savings makes sunrise very late in the mornings, with sunrise close to 8am by the end of March.

The Kaitaki (Originally Isle Of Inishfree) also did the Dublin to Holyhead route between 1995-1997, before being replaced by the Isle Of Inishmore and being sent down to the Rosslare to Pembroke route. Also, when this was built in 1994, this ferry replaced another ferry called Isle Of Innisfree, but under the B&I Line company (Now Irish Ferries)

Interislander and Bluebridge ferries operating between the North and South Islands are for freight services and passengers and cars are secondary, so its important to have a reservation as car/campervan space is limited. The Aratere is the only ferry that has rail tracks. Interislander is buying two rail enable ferries that will be bigger than the Kaitaia and the Kaiarahi and they will replace the Kaitaki, Kaiarahi and the Aratere from 2025 onwards.
While Cook Strait may look peaceful it is notorious in bad weather.

I was half expecting to see a picture of the lifeboat they have in Picton town from the sunken Soviet cruise ship Mikhail Lermontov. It's next to the small shopping centre. I suppose the train arrival doesn't give too much time for a wander around the town before the ship departs?

@@msmarinediesel1843 Yeah I was surprised you didn't stay in any of Kaikoura, Blenheim (great as a base to visit multiple vineyards, and the Omaka Warbirds Aviation Museum), and Picton (Great for day trips to the sounds). Picton also has one of the best foreshore areas in my opinion too. On a sunny day you can just lie on the grass under a tree and read a good book, have a picnic, and watch the ferries come and go.
If you pay an extra NZD$10 you can make your Coastal Pacific train ticket into a multi-stop ticket allowing a stopover in Blenheim and/or Kaikoura, which is what I did, going the other way a couple of weeks after you did this trip.
Nice video. Also liked the MV Norrona one which I took in July 2013. In summer I think there were (still are?) extra sailings so again it allowed me to stopover in Torshavn for 3 days and catch the next time Norrona came through and onto Iceland. Sedisfjordur is one of my favourite places in the world. Beautiful morning for arrival and the freshest air I've ever breathed! Just amazing!
