    Obviously this subject causes much debate, and there is no mention of "The Children of the Mist", about the greenstone trail, or the Polynesian Triangle that has as its furthest points Hawaii, as well as New Zealand. As a blended culture, we now recognise that we all all New Zealanders, however, and it will always be the case, who came to NZ first? There are many hidden cultures making NZ a lot older than one would expect. One thing is for sure though, the Maori peoples did come, settle and continue to do so in this beautiful country. After all in the endgame we are but travelers in time and space. What we do on this earth is the important thing. :)

      I agree. There is way too much arguing, bickering and fighting between Maori and pakeha. This bicultural stand off is unhealthy for NZ and as you said "we all all New Zealanders". Maori are not indigenous. They are travellers just like the first Europeans were but they want it to be more and this continuous feuding is why I no longer live in my own country of birth. I no longer have to suffer the 'in-your-face racism' on a daily basis where the pot is continuously stirred by the left leaning mainstream media. Maybe it has improved of late. I don't know.

      Well, back when I was a small lad, I was told that one of my maungas "Maungapohatu" was a comet, and crash landed on earth millions or billions of years ago. Just to be with the god of the mist (Hine Pu Kohurangi). And apparently that's where "The Children Of The Mist" Such so myself, came from. It was a great story to me as a kid. But GODDAMN , I wanna know where my kuia and koroua got there information from, Because how the hell does that work.

      The embargo on the archaeological dig at Waipoua forest which I think is what you are referring to was put on by Micheal Taylor concealing the carbon dating of inhabitants centuries before Maori. My friend the late Noel Hilliam was there at the dig and told me.
      What reason has the Government got to hide this knowledge? Anyone's guess. After votes, maybe UN directive??

    I found one of those stones once on a coastal property over 40 years ago. I was a shepherd at the time and mustering stock so didn't pay it much attension other than noting it looked out of place on raised ground and had a number of symbols or engravings that made no sense to me. I promptly disregarded it as I had work to do and didn't note if other stones existed around it or if it lined up on points on the horizon. But my interest has been raised in recent years with the drive to rewrite NZ history. Maybe I should keep its location secret so it can be rediscovered at a future time in a different political climate.

    In Samoa they were known as the Tetea (Albinos) but were expelled due to civil strife, in Tonga one of the noble clans is called Ha'amea (Ha'a meaning Clan/House and Mea meaning Pale or Light-coloured) with mythical origins, in Kiribati they are known as I-Matang (Meaning from-Matang likewise I-Kiribati meaning from-Kiribati) a name used to describe Europeans today because of their similarity to the I-Matang who arrived in ancient times. In Tokelau, Spanish Explorers described their meeting with a canoe party of natives when they discovered Olohega, describing in detail some of them being white in skin, some with freckles and reddish in hair and so named it "Isla De La Gente Hermosa" meaning Island of Beautiful People. There are a few Pacific Islander families who are descended from them when they mixed with local populations. Names like kura/ura/vula/kehu meaning "red" because of their reddish hair and also mea/tea meaning "pale" because of their complexion.

    This is interesting as hell, but factually it's a mixed bag. I've looked into it a lot because I love reading about this kind of thing. Sadly, I'm always disappointed when I dig a bit further.
    The thing about the Moriori arriving a couple of hundred years earlier has no basis in fact, it's a common misconception that was disproved in the 1970s - they were Māori who settled the Chatham Islands from mainland NZ, probably around 1500, and they underwent a cultural shift due to resource scarcity. Their language is a dialect of Māori most similar to the Ngāi Tahu dialect. They are genetically and culturally Māori and their early artefacts match those found on the mainland.
    There are definitely some interesting and tantalising clues that people may have at some point visited NZ prior to Māori settlement, but there is no solid evidence that anyone other than the ancestors of Māori settled here for long enough or large enough numbers to leave any evidence. Contrast this to the viking settlement sites in remote parts of Canada - despite them not having managed to successfully colonise North America there is still plenty of evidence for the handful of attempts that they made.
    Polynesian people are well known for erecting stone monuments similar to those of the neolithic period in Europe. There are some particularly impressive monuments in Tonga, for example, as well as the obvious Easter Island Maoi, and astronomically aligned monuments throughout western polynesia and micronesia.
    The artifacts, stone monuments and carvings shown aren't stylistically different to other Polynesian examples found elsewhere, which is why archaeologists don't view them as being evidence for a non-polynesian culture on their own.
    The whole idea that the archaeological community is taking part in a conspiracy to suppress knowledge for which evidence exists I find fairly unbelievable - archaeologists, and indeed any person who's gotten into a financially unrewarding profession, are doing the work mostly for the love of it, there is no incentive for them to hide things and indeed if there was any evidence contrary to the current understanding then surely they'd be all over it.

    • @turehunz342

      Hi Nik, You are right; it is a mixed bag and subject worth getting excited about and openly researched as in other countries. _"The whole idea that the archaeological community is taking part in a conspiracy to suppress knowledge for which evidence exists I find fairly unbelievable -"_
      While I find your comment very interesting, I feel obliged to correct this assumption.
      The most obvious example would be Egypt, ofcourse. Where to this day any research requests are met with quite a bit of hostility. It is blatantly obvious that conventional Egyptology is completely false.
      Then there is Peru & Bolivia, which in a nutshell is the same story. Vast amounts of evidence that contradict the official narrative.
      And closer to NZ I can think of the Gunung Padang pyramid in Indonesia. They won't even let them use ground radar. It's completely off limits, despite vast amounts of evidence literally lying around everywhere there.
      I trust these 3 examples will suffice to get rid of the notion that "it is hard to believe that the archaeological community is taking part in a conspiracy to suppress knowledge for which evidence exists"

    When Tasman and Cook arrived they found Maori's. Now if you actually listened to what they were saying it would not be such a mystery. Maori's claim tangata whenua status from they fact we descend from the original inhabitants of this land. Be they Irish be they Phoenician be they Tamil be they Chinese be they Viking whatever what is for sure a large component of them were Polynesian and most likely they were shipwrecked. Maori's claim our status, mana whatever from the fleet that arrived about 1350. This was a planned migration and many of the crew were royalty and experts, priests with skills that would be required in this new land. Which they knew about because the ancestor Kupe the navigator bought back the instructions how to get there. Through geneology the new arrivals quickly made connections with there long lost relatives and so it was until the pakeha arrived. One of the main differences was the fleet Maori's were gardeners the tangata whenua were hunter gatherers. Hence the observation of stars was not a mystery and whats more these new people Polynesians did construct stone altars but you already no that don't you. Moriori are the Tangata Whenua of the Chatham islands. You are promoting a Myth and lie created by your people. Based on writings of Percy Smith and Elsdon Best, there grew theories that the Māori had displaced a more primitive pre-Māori population of Moriori (sometimes described as a small-statured, dark-skinned race of possible Melanesian origin), in mainland New Zealand - and that the Chatham Island Moriori were the last remnant of this earlier race. These theories also had the advantage - from the view of the European settlers - of undermining the notion of the Māori as the indigenous people of New Zealand, making them just one in a neat progression of waves of migration and conquest by increasingly more civilised and technically able peoples. This in turn was used to justify racist stereotyping, colonisation and conquest by cultural "superiors" Youre merely creating another fantasy to justify your presense in New Zealand...keep dreaming the only one buying your theory are those people wearing tinfoil hats.

    There are stories of some of Tuhoe having children with the people that were all ready here. Rereke nei(respect to other beliefs, this is just a story there are many and to each their own. This is a story on my marae and our whakapapa, children of the mist. We are descendants of a long line of chiefs and the people that were made of the clay of this land. But all Maori come from royal lines and each marae has a great story. Go and listen to the descendants laugh, song & eat with them. I have been to 8 marae so far and love listening to their stories it is like I am on a voyage through time. It seems to me that maybe, just like my ancestors. The Irish too could see through the vail and in doing so could also astral project their consciousness over distances. If your looking for science to prove this it’s called quantum physics (just a food for thought)

      Yes the Irish were connected to the Egyptians.....
      And the people made of the clay of the land were possibly aboriginal or an aboriginal mix. The aboriginals made it from Australia to the Amazon in South America. Their DNA exists in 3 tribes there. So its not out of the question they made the much shorter journey to NZ. And some Maori stories say the people here were dark and ugly (no offence just repeating). Some of the incoming Polynesians took the best women for themselves.

    Historians and archaeologists dismiss these theories. Michael King wrote in his history of New Zealand, "Despite a plethora of amateur theories about Melanesian, South American, Egyptian, Phoenician and Celtic colonisation of New Zealand, there is not a shred of evidence that the first human settlers were anything other than Polynesian",[10] and Richard Hill, professor of New Zealand Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, said in 2012, "Not one of [the theories] has ever passed any remote academic scrutiny."[8] Hugh Laracy of the University of Auckland called them "wild speculation" that has been "thoroughly disposed of by academic specialists."[9]
    Another historian, Vincent O'Malley, and the New Zealand Archaeological Association regard the theories as having a racist or at least a political element, seeking to cast doubt on Waitangi Tribunal claims.[8][11] Scott Hamilton in "No to Nazi Pseudo-history: an Open Letter" further explains objections to the theories of Bolton and Doutré (and the website Ancient Celtic New Zealand).[12]

      Actually you are incorrect. The Archaeological reports are open access in Archives New Zealand Auckland and Wellington Branches. They're also available online through Whangarei Libraries Northland Room Digital Collections. I have some of the copies which I obtained via the Maingay Collection which is online and fully accessible. This video like the Plumm production lacks any academic rigour and fails to stand up to scrutiny. The entire thing is based on a theory with the 'evidence' found to fit that theory. DNA testing of the Rapanui elders by Oslo University proved they all had Polynesian descent originating from the Marqesas Islands. Scientists also proved the polynesian people were master navigators and more than capable of traversing the Pacific as far away as Easter Island. Also in the DNA evidence they found the Rapanui had had some contact with people of South America. This "there were people before Maori" is flawed, without any plausible evidence and has no sound basis in fact whatsoever.

    • @turehunz342
      @turehunz342  8 лет назад +4

      Hello Liz, "academic rigour" is an oxymoron especially from our so called academic institutes. If these people say anything controversial they are "down the road". Openness with ideas for discussion can only come from people like us; we are not afraid. Those in Universities are so PC and willing to tow the line for fear of losing their jobs. If you are an academic Archaeologist would you like to help?

    • @lizclark8985
      @lizclark8985 8 лет назад +8

      Sorry I can't accept your argument. Had you a sound basis with proper evidence instead of conjecture I would take this so called 'Waitaha/Turehu" theory as perhaps plausible. But it isn't. There hasn't been one piece of sound evidence produced. Just a theory without the solid evidence required to prove it is plausible. You're quick to dismiss the Academic community, and I highly doubt anyone there would supposedly lose their jobs. Because somehow simply accepting a theory that cannot produce the supporting evidence isn't how someone academically trained would work. At least not those that are taken seriously James Belich being one of them. Archaeologists go on the evidence they excavate, date and examine to determine the timeline in comparison to those who make the consistent claim that the Waipoua Reports are all supposedly locked up until 2063 because of some supposed government conspiracy. And yet I was able to obtain them via the Whangarei Libraries digital collection. I'm a Heritage Researcher Turehu and like the archaeologists I go on documented evidence which includes reading archaeolgical reports. When you come up with the actual archaeological evidence to prove your theory then maybe you'll get taken seriously. Let me know when you do.

    I'm not a racist in any way. I dont really care if NZ is completely given to Maori. They are generous people. I'm 1/8 Maori. I like truth, and history is like a gig saw puzzle. The accepted story of 7 great wakas arriving in NZ would suggest a unified arrival. As we all know Maori are not unified and were very brutal on each other. This suggests arrivals came from different peoples, at different times. Many Polynesian people have the birthmark on their behind. This originates from Genghis Khan , down on through Asia, and many Asian people have this spot on their behinds. Also, some early arrivals to NZ came via Iran thru Peru, Easter island (you tube ancient NZ history, completely non racist, many Maori stories) AND SOME from the more traditional route, Polynesia. Also many hundreds of ships left Europe and Asia in 14/15 hundreds. Only half returned home and were accounted for. It is possible many roamed the oceans and picked up women and landed in NZ. Remains of Spanish galleons have been found in the Kaipara harbour. So lets work it all out. Nothing to be scared of surly ?

    Don’t know why people think there would only have been one or two waves of settlers on New Zealand. In the Caribbean where I am from there are the same indentations on stones referred to as work holes. Very similar spirals carved into the stones and caves, made by a people whose name has long been lost, they predate the Kalinago (Caribs) and the Arawaks. Similar markings, I realized, are found in the Canary Islands on the other side of the Atlantic. I must say though don’t limit yourself in thinking the migration happened OUT of pre Celtic Europe it could have happened IN to pre Celtic Europe.

Maybe you should look at increasing your comprehension of the spoken language: according to your own definition, squatters are also indigenous, or is time a necessary component under your abstract usage of the word? If so, please point me to any accepted dictionary definition, of the word. Native Africans & Americans, Asians, Eskimos are all examples of an indigenous people. Just because the Maori didn't originate in a country, doesn't belittle the amazing achievements & courage of their emigration in times gone by. It can only increase it, if you thought about it.

    What is the proof of the first stone showed being used as a solar compass? The measurements cited, are only contextless measurements. The Grinding holes are a ubiquitous world-wide (people grind things). The rock carvings have similar counterparts throughout Polynesia. The claims made by this group are anecdotal, without actual age dating, actual expert comparisons and sourcing, etc. The purpose of claims like in this group is to discredit Maori people, because of feelings of being disenfranchised. Feelings that pale in comparison to the long term treatment and struggle of indigenous people.

    The Eastern Polynesians who became Maori built the Moai on Easter Island.
    White folks love making videos about how standing stones (not even carved in this case) are somehow evidence of European settlement.

More importantly note the Easter Island Elder explaining that the Ancestors of Maori are the same as the Ancestors of Rapanui.
    When the same people went to Rapanui Easter Island they built and transported mega stone. When these same peoples sailed to Aotearoa they carved in the abundant material wood. When the same peoples went to the Chatham Islands they carved in wood and stone.

    John, at 5:25 you say information regarding these archaeological sites has been "suppressed" by the government. If you look carefully at the order it uses the word "restricted". Suppressed and restricted have two different meanings. Suppressed means, 'to not allow people to know about or see something'. Restricted means, 'limited to persons authorized to use information, documents etc'. If you read the order it reads as follows; 'Prior consultation requires approval of the Te Raroa-Waipoua Archaeological Advisory Committee or other subsequent Te Raroa authority'. The information hasn't been suppressed as you assert, only restricted. In fact the document that you purport to be a suppression order is in fact an "Agreement for the Transfer of Archives'. In this case from the Dept. of Conservation to the Te Raroa-Waipoua Archaeological Advisory Committee. So, please stop misrepresenting the facts to suit your twisted political agenda.

      Ngamoko Nikora Supressed or Restricted ends up the same as far as "In the public interest" is concerned. Gary Cook challenged this restriction on Waipoua forest and got a partial easement which were archaeological notes describing mounds of rocks, rock circle, wall of rocks etc. However the carbon dating figures which is the most important information has purposely been withheld/suppressed/restricted from public scrutiny until 2063.

Professor Paul Moon, of Auckland AUT University, has been quoted as saying that the book's authors lack credibility and questions their research methodologies. Who carried out the radiocarbon dating of the artifacts at Waipoua forest? Where is the suppression order supposedly suppressing the carbon dating record until 2063? As I said earlier the document you purport to be a suppression order is in fact an "Agreement for the Transfer of Archives" it says so on this video at 5:23. Restricted yes, suppressed/withheld no.

    I think everyone should read this email. Its by a former NZ judge and Law Lecturer, and whether they like it or not all families should read it and be aware of what’s is happening
    In June 2022, Anthony Willy, former Judge and Law Lecturer, said
    “The catch cry ‘democracy does not work for Maori’ has become the mantra for the destruction of democracy.
    Quite simply we are witnessing a coup designed to dismantle our democracy and the Rule of Law and replace it with the worst form of tribalism coupled with the greed of those who want what they have not earned.”
    The rollout of the Government’s He Puapua plan to establish Maori sovereignty by 2040 is proceeding at breathtaking speed.
    We are living in revolutionary times. It is a coup, by a small number of iwi elite who have their hands on the levers of power thanks to our Prime Minister’s willingness to sacrifice New Zealand democracy for totalitarian tribal rule.
    Virtually every facet of our society is now subjected to their influence with their latest ‘conquest’, the legal system, by replacing Western Common law that has evolved over hundreds of years with Maori tribal practices.
    Replacing democracy with tribal rule is so extreme, that Jacinda Ardern knew she would lose the 2020 General Election if her plan became known. As a result, she kept He Puapua hidden from her New Zealand First coalition partner - and from the public - until after she had secured the power to govern alone.
    None of the significant changes, which are undermining democracy and our Kiwi way of life that are being introduced through He Puapua, have received a mandate from the public.
    The restructuring of health, polytechnics, our legal system, and water services are all illegitimate policy changes designed to pass control to the tribal elite. None have public approval.
    In this climate of division created by Jacinda Ardern, key institutions are being corrupted from their original purpose of serving all New Zealanders as equals, to prioritising and privileging those of Maori descent. Under her leadership, democracy is being replaced by apartheid.
    Jacinda Ardern is not doing this alone. Supporting her are the powerful members of Labour’s 15-strong Maori Caucus.
    Recently Willie Jackson addressed a group of 5000 at a big marae. He shook his fist in the air and stated”When we have control of the water we have total control of Aotearoa” They are well on the way to doing just this while all the confused pakeha are looking on bemused!
    He Puapua is dangerous, it spells the end of one law for all, and of DEMOCRACY, He Puapua must go.
    New Zealand, we cannot remain silent, we must voice & demonstrate our opposition to He Puapua now!.

      Ancient islanders have light skin who looks caucasian among them and red haired too. They bear the name of their clans describing just that, they're tall and light skin. This Moriori group of people speaks a Micronesian dialect if those documentaries are factual but it appears there's a lot of Polynesian influence on their language as well. Many of their words only used in Micronesia instead of Polynesia. I'm not sure about how Celtics came to be but stone settings like this one in the Video is pretty common in Tahiti, Yap, Guam and some of the islands. Perhaps the Celtics were one and the same as the islanders ancestors origin but the whole blue eye thingy and light skin was a much later results of intermarriage from the European side after the real indigenous group migrating away? I noticed the islanders have similarities with the celtics and the Norse too. Possible that all the similarities are only ancient sharing of information and cultural influences but has nothing to do with a particular group trying to claim ownership or origin of something.

As everyone knows we are a young country, we are forever evolving, learning and its bound to change. England itself has as you all know, a huge history, yet the more study and archeological digs that go on around the Roman sites, Medieval sites and the Henges etc, they are learning that their history is not what they first thought it to be...It in itself is still changing and evolving as history always will. So Maori must have built stone hedge in Britain not the so-called Druids. Then left to sale around the world. In the 1980s There were items in the NZ herald asking what does tangata whenua (people of the land ) means. And also that Kawanatanga(pigeon for Governor) means Sovereignty. I can even remember reading one item in relation to the Treaty of Waitangi, for clarification of what the English word Partnership means. In the 1990sor early 2000s I read in the herald that some Pakeha (Maoris name for Whiteman, ) maori had other names for the Red Yellow or Black man, back to the ,some pakeha asking where their Taurangawaiwai ( ancestors home land ) is. I can understand the insecurity of pakeha here in Aotearoa in having to question there own identity hear in Polynesia. But to have the colonists arrogance of determining who the first people of our beautiful land on top of the world is like believing in Myth of King Arthur and the Knights of the round table. Even the term Knights was stolen from Arabian Knights. If want to use Maori ie Turehu there’s a name for insecure colonist white men ie Tauiwi. The opposite to indigenous.

    I would like TurehuNZ to either remove this video from RUclips, or at the very least change its title. TurehuNZ has not presented any credible evidence of pre-non Maori settlement of New Zealand on this video, or anywhere else, for the reasons stated in my earlier posts. They are his views and are not compelling or credible evidence so the title to this video is both misleading and insulting to the Maori people. And lastly, who at the University of Auckland has given official recognition for any of the views presented in this video?

    • @turehunz342
      @turehunz342  9 лет назад +4

      Ngamoko Nikora This video presents factual hard evidence of pre Maori occupation. No way could a primitive cannibal race have any concept of mathematical calculation with the astronomical calendars. To those Maori who are offended; tough. It is a free speech world on You Tube. "Maoriwithattitude" on this blog is an aware person who mentions how Maori elders distort their pre Maori history by talking about the fairy people in a way to make the stories more of a myth to cover up the reality of the Turehu. As a pakeha I am insulted by you playing the victim all the time. The world does NOT owe you a living. Your insecurities over this subject is pathetic. I challenge all Maori who read this to do some digging for the truth; pester your elders. Alot of them are good people and may open up. Your aggression and insecurities are what will always hold your culture back. Be open, be helpful towards the quest for truth.

    • @ngamo52Nick
      @ngamo52Nick 9 лет назад +5

      Turehu NZ Firstly, this video does not present hard evidence of pre-Maori occupation. Let's look at the stones as shown do you have any geological/archaeological opinions from established academic experts in this field supporting your view? I think not. For all we know the stones mentioned could have been placed there as a result of volcanic activity, or other natural occurrences. As to the markings on the stones they could have been the result of some 'prankster' in recent times chiseling them out with a hammer and chisel. I asked you earlier, who at the University of Auckland has given official recognition for the views presented here? You have not responded, which can only be interpreted as no one at the University of Auckland agrees with you. Free speech is one thing, but to present opinion as fact without hard evidence in an attempt to displace Maori as the indigenous people of New Zealand is an insult. As a child my father would often talk to me about the Turehu and would show me where they would appear. They were from the underworld, supernatural beings like the leprechaun from Ireland. Secondly, you have no evidence of pre-Maori occupation of New Zealand for the following reasons;(1) any large scale settlement would likely be accompanied by the destruction of a considerable amount of forest by fires, and scientists can discover the date at which this sort of destruction began by testing pollen spores preserved in the sediment of lakes. Tests do not indicate any man-made destruction of the forests began until less than 1,000 years ago, so your claims of a mass settlement of pre-non Maori Celtic people occurring 4,500 years ago looks rather unlikely. (2) If large numbers of Caucasian people lived in New Zealand thousands of years ago, then we ought to be finding their skeletons, as well as burial items which reflect a non-Polynesian material culture. But the oldest skeletons and burial items that have been found are distinctly Polynesian, and are less than 1,000 years old. (3) The strongest evidence against your claim of ancient non-Maori settlement comes from DNA testing. You have asserted in articles published that the ancestors of the Maori slaughtered the male Celts who had settled in New Zealand and then raped their women, and the present Maori therefore have some of the blood of the ancient Celts. In recent years scholars have run a series of DNA tests on Maori, in an effort to trace their ancestry. These tests confirm that Maori are a Polynesian people, and that Polynesians have their origins in coastal Asia thousands of years ago. In 2005 a team from the University of Victoria, Wellington was able to establish an ancient connection between Maori and one of the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, both groups have the same rare gene marker for coping with alcohol. If Maori really were part-Celtic, then the connection would show up in DNA tests. It doesn't. Finally, John I would therefore challenge you to accept the fact based on overwhelming evidence by academic specialists that Maori are the real indigenous people of New Zealand.

    • @turehunz342
      @turehunz342  9 лет назад +3

      Ngamoko Nikora "Real" Academics and archaeologists are the main problem in covering up evidence. They fear for their jobs if they step out of line and go against what the UN has foisted on our Government. Look at the Celtic symbolism that adorns Maori head gear and around the waist. The rat bones found under the Taupo ash precede Maori by 1100 years. Who brought the rat to NZ? The cave near Taupo which was exposed by torrential rain revealed a family of European skeletons huddled together to hide from the Taupo eruption of 186AD, the adults had copper braclets around their wrists. Why don't you do your own research? You are fortunate in being able to approach Kaumatua and the keepers of history and quietly interview them. Even video the interview!

    • @ngamo52Nick
      @ngamo52Nick 9 лет назад +2

      Turehu NZ 'Real academics and archaeologists are the main problem in covering up evidence'. OMG John, you're a conspiracy theorist par excellence. When experts debunk your theories you resort to the old covering up the evidence argument. As to the Pacific rat(Kiore) the latest radiocarbon dating puts the date of arrival of the Kiore at around 1250AD. No rat bones have been found beneath the Taupo ash of 232AD. Six dates on rat bones found in South Island cave sites, carried out by two different laboratories, all came out at 1250AD or more recent. As to the Taupo ash of 232AD and Kaharoa ash of 1314AD there has been no discovery of human settlement beneath the two ash layers. How do you know that the skeletal remains found in a Taupo cave date back to the period of the Taupo ash? Who carried out the radiocarbon dating on these skeletons? And how do you know that the said skeletal remains are European? Who carried out the DNA testing? Where is your proof John?

It was a very mature tree, how did it get there and grow in that spot? Maybe there is a population of NZ cabbage trees and maybe other NZ plants in Ireland that have been there for thousands of years which could go a long way to creating an historic link showing historic travel between the two countries. There seems to be some misunderstanding.
      The main ancient genetic heritage reflects Taiwanese origins with a gradual migration through the pacific.
      It also needs to be made aware these tests are well into the colonial period so various DNA heritages through subsequent mecegination are hardly going to be surprising.
      There are also traces of ancient PERUVIAN DNA, rather than Persian as its surmised Polynesian sailing expeditions made it to Peru and returned with Kumara and possibly wives.
      I’m not sure why people cite legends (of giants) as evidentiary proof of existence of anything, unless they’re also claiming Bigfoot and Leprechauns ALSO exist.🤷‍♂️

    So Maori couldn't do this please! this so centric in its theories, why do people have to try to erode Maori belonging by trying it on with this stuff. Who said Maori didn't have this knowledge and culture> Maybe you should embrace native Maori culture and assimilate or bugger off to Ireland where the Gaels will set you right with a back hander.

      Bunji The anthropology Dept of Otago estimate Maori were in NZ about 1300 at Wairoa Bar Blenheim. We never said Maori didn't have this knowledge, although people reading this blog can make up their own mind whether a cannibalistic culture had sophisticated mathematic and astronomical abilities. If you are offended that Maori culture was a violent agressive culture....tough titties mate, history is what it is. "This stuff" as you call it has been around way before 1300AD and it is in Public interest to find out who these ancient people were. If you don't like what eventuates perhaps you can bugger off to "Hawaiiki" ...where ever that place is!

      Archaeology is only as good as the last carbon date, who said ancestors of modern Iwi weren't there before then or another group who are today amalgamated into present Maori culture and as such form Maori ancestral connection through integration. Don't like that theory hey!

      @@turehunz342 as above the Polynesian ancestors of Māori and moriori arrived in New Zealand from 1250 onwards, then some of those people went to the chathams and became moriori (culturally distinct from maori) there. One way in which they became distinct is that the adopted “nunuku’s law” of non violence. Back in nz at that time Māori were probably not very violent as there were plenty of resources and low population density. Later inter tribal warfare increased, then with the introduction of muskets all hell broke loose. Taranaki iwi ngati mutunga and ngati tama were displaced by northern iwi, moved south to Wellington, then took a British ship and guns to take the lands and people of the chathams for themselves. That’s the short version. Interesting, right?
